Abstract

A method of encoding a transaction flow is described. The method comprises: receiving information from a user about a transaction type to be executed; creating a transaction flow comprising a sequence of states, where at least some states include text to be displayed and inputs to be enabled for that state; and encoding the transaction flow into a machine-readable code.

Claims (23)

1 . A method comprising:

receiving, by a server, information from a user about a transaction type to be executed;

creating a transaction flow comprising a sequence of states, where at least some states include text to be displayed and inputs to be enabled for that state;

validating the transaction flow prior to encoding the transaction flow by contacting an identified transacting party;

encoding the transaction flow into a machine-readable code;

transmitting the machine-readable code to a mobile device associated with the user;

reading the machine-readable code by a Self-Service Terminal (SST) presented by the user;

interpreting the read code to ascertain a sequence of states to be executed by the SST;

parsing each state to ascertain user interaction information for that state;

implementing the ascertained user interaction information for that state;

receiving an input from the user in response to the user interaction information; and

moving to a next state in the sequence of states until a final state is reached indicating a completion of the transaction.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the machine-readable code is a two-dimensional barcode.

3 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the two-dimensional barcode is a QR code.

4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the inputs to be enabled for a state relate to function defined keys (FDKs).

5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the inputs to be enabled for a state relate to keys on a numeric keypad.

6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the inputs to be enabled for a state relate to a cash deposit slot.

7 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising validating the transaction flow by contacting a Web server associated with the transaction.

8 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising encrypting the transaction flow prior to encoding the transaction flow into the machine-readable code.

9 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising digitally signing the transaction flow prior to encoding the transaction flow into the machine-readable code.

10 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the SST is an automated teller machine (ATM).

11 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the SST interacts with an external web service during the transaction.

12 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the user interaction information includes a request for the user to input data using an input peripheral of the SST.
