Abstract

Embodiments of systems/methods are disclosed wherein a transmitter is configured to wirelessly communicate with a destination device by transmitting a first plurality of subcarriers using a first set of frequencies and a first air interface; and responsive to a size of data that is to be transmitted, transmitting a second plurality of subcarriers using a second set of frequencies and a second air interface that comprises a variant of the first air interface. According to some embodiments, the first set of frequencies and/or the second set frequencies comprise frequencies that are used for cellular communications and at least some frequencies of the second set of frequencies are mutually exclusive with the first set of frequencies.

Claims (81)

1. A system comprising a transmitter that is configured to wirelessly communicate with a destination device and is further configured to perform a number of transmitter operations comprising:

wirelessly transmitting to the destination device, a first plurality of subcarriers using a first set of frequencies and a first air interface; and, responsive to a size of data that is to be transmitted to the destination device, wirelessly transmitting to the destination device a second plurality of subcarriers using a second set of frequencies and a second air interface that comprises a variant of the first air interface;

wherein the first set of frequencies comprises frequencies used for cellular communications;

wherein the second set of frequencies comprises frequencies used for cellular communications;

wherein at least some frequencies of the second set of frequencies are mutually exclusive with all frequencies of the first set of frequencies; and

wherein said wirelessly transmitting to the destination device, a first plurality of subcarriers using a first set of frequencies and a first air interface; and said wirelessly transmitting to the destination device a second plurality of subcarriers using a second set of frequencies and a second air interface that comprises a variant of the first air interface occur over respective first and second intervals of time that do not overlap with one another or overlap with one another at least partially.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein said at least some frequencies of the second set of frequencies comprises all frequencies of the second set of frequencies.

3. The system of claim 1 , wherein said number of transmitter operations further comprise:

wirelessly transmitting to the destination device the first plurality of subcarriers using a first carrier; and

responsive to the size of data that is to be transmitted to the destination device, wirelessly transmitting to the destination device the second plurality of subcarriers using a second carrier;

wherein said second air interface that comprises a variant of the first air interface, comprises a variant of a modulation used by the first air interface.

4. The system of claim 1 , wherein the transmitter comprises a transmitter of a smartphone, a transmitter of an access point or a transmitter of a base station and wherein said number of transmitter operations further comprise:

responsive to the size of data that is to be transmitted to the destination device, wirelessly transmitting to the destination device a third plurality of subcarriers using a third set of frequencies; and/or wirelessly transmitting to the destination device a fourth plurality of subcarriers using a fourth set of frequencies:

wherein the third set of frequencies differs from the first set of frequencies and differs from the second set of frequencies; and

wherein the fourth set of frequencies differs from the first set of frequencies, differs from the second set of frequencies and differs from the third set of frequencies.

5. The system of claim 3 ,

wherein said wirelessly transmitting to the destination device the first plurality of subcarriers using a first carrier comprises wirelessly transmitting using a transmitter of a smartphone, a transmitter of an access point or a transmitter of a base station; and

wherein said wirelessly transmitting to the destination device the second plurality of subcarriers using a second carrier comprises wirelessly transmitting using a transmitter of the smartphone, a transmitter of the access point or a transmitter of the base station.

6. The system of claim 1 , wherein said first air interface comprises a 5G air interface and wherein said second air interface comprises a variant of the 5G air interface.

The system of claim 3 , wherein said wirelessly transmitting to the destination device the first plurality of subcarriers using a first carrier, and said wirelessly transmitting to the destination device the second plurality of subcarriers using a second carrier, occur over respective first and second intervals of time that do not overlap with one another, or overlap with one another at least partially; and wherein each frequency associated with the first carrier is mutually exclusive with all frequencies associated with the second carrier.

8. The system of claim 1 ,

wherein said wirelessly transmitting to the destination device, a first plurality of subcarriers using a first set of frequencies and a first air interface, comprises wirelessly transmitting to the destination device a first plurality of subcarriers of a 5G carrier; and

wherein said wirelessly transmitting to the destination device a second plurality of subcarriers using a second set of frequencies and a second air interface that comprises a variant of the first air interface, comprises wirelessly transmitting to the destination device a second plurality of subcarriers of a 5G carrier comprising a variant of the first plurality of subcarriers.

The system of claim 8 , wherein said second plurality of subcarriers includes at least one subcarrier whose frequencies are mutually exclusive with all frequencies of the first plurality of subcarriers; and wherein said variant of the first plurality of subcarriers comprises a variant in a modulation used by the first plurality of subcarriers.

The system of claim 1 , wherein said first set of frequencies and/or said second set of frequencies comprises/comprise unlicensed frequencies, licensed frequencies and/or microwave frequencies; and wherein said second air interface that comprises a variant of the first air interface comprises a variant of a modulation that is used by the first air interface.

11. The system of claim 4 ,

wherein said wirelessly transmitting to the destination device, a first plurality of subcarriers using a first set of frequencies and a first air interface comprises wirelessly transmitting to the destination device by the transmitter of the smartphone, by the transmitter of the access point or by the transmitter of the base station a first plurality of subcarriers of a 5G carrier using the first set of frequencies and the first air interface; and

wherein said wirelessly transmitting to the destination device a second plurality of subcarriers using a second set of frequencies and a second air interface that comprises a variant of the first air interface comprises wirelessly transmitting to the destination device by the transmitter of the smartphone, by the transmitter of the access point or by the transmitter of the base station a second plurality of subcarriers of a 5G carrier using the second set of frequencies and the second air interface that comprises the variant of the first air interface.

12. The system of claim 1 , further comprising a receiver that is configured to wirelessly communicate with the destination device and is further configured to perform a number of receiver operations comprising:

wirelessly receiving from the destination device using a first band of frequencies; and

responsive to a size of data that is to be received from the destination device, wirelessly receiving from the destination device using a second band of frequencies.

13. The system of claim 12 , wherein said receiver comprises a receiver of a smartphone, a receiver of an access point or a receiver of a base station; and wherein said number of receiver operations further comprise:

responsive to the size of data that is to be received from the destination device, wirelessly receiving from the destination device using a third band of frequencies and/or wirelessly receiving from the destination device using a fourth band of frequencies;

wherein the second band of frequencies differs from the first band of frequencies;

wherein the third band of frequencies differs from the first band of frequencies and differs from the second band of frequencies; and

wherein the fourth band of frequencies differs from the first band of frequencies, differs from the second band of frequencies and differs from the third band of frequencies.

14. The system of claim 13 , wherein at least some frequencies that are included in the second band of frequencies, third band of frequencies and/or fourth band of frequencies are mutually exclusive with all frequencies that are included in the first band of frequencies.

15. The system of claim 12 , wherein said number of transmitter operations and/or said number of receiver operations further comprise:

receiving information from the destination device; and

responsive to said receiving information from the destination device, configuring a DFT/FFT and/or an IDFT/IFFT thereof and varying a bandwidth thereof.

16. The system of claim 13 , wherein the first band of frequencies, second band of frequencies, third band of frequencies and/or fourth band of frequencies comprise unlicensed frequencies, licensed frequencies, frequencies that are used for cellular communications and/or microwave frequencies.

17. The system of claim 16 ,

wherein said wirelessly receiving from the destination device using a first band of frequencies comprises wirelessly receiving from the destination device a first plurality of subcarriers of a 5G return-link carrier;

wherein said wirelessly receiving from the destination device using a second band of frequencies comprises wirelessly receiving from the destination device a second plurality of subcarriers of a 5G return-link carrier that comprises a variant of the first plurality of subcarriers;

wherein said wirelessly receiving from the destination device using a third band of frequencies comprises wirelessly receiving from the destination device a third plurality of subcarriers of a 5G return-link carrier that comprises a variant of the first plurality of subcarriers; and/or

wherein said wirelessly receiving from the destination device using a fourth band of frequencies comprises wirelessly receiving from the destination device a fourth plurality of subcarriers of a 5G return-link carrier that comprises a variant of the first plurality of subcarriers.

18. A method comprising:

wirelessly transmitting by a transmitter of a smartphone, by a transmitter of an access point or by a transmitter of a base station; and

wirelessly receiving by a receiver of the smartphone, by a receiver of the access point or by a receiver of the base station;

wherein said wirelessly transmitting by a transmitter of a smartphone, by a transmitter of an access point or by a transmitter of a base station comprises wirelessly transmitting to a destination device a first plurality of subcarriers using a first set of frequencies and a first air interface; and, responsive to a size of data that is to be transmitted to the destination device, said wirelessly transmitting by a transmitter of a smartphone, by a transmitter of an access point or by a transmitter of a base station comprises wirelessly transmitting to the destination device a second plurality of subcarriers using a second set of frequencies and a second air interface that comprises a variant of the first air interface;

wherein the first set of frequencies comprises frequencies used for cellular communications;

wherein the second set of frequencies comprises frequencies used for cellular communications;

wherein at least some frequencies of the second set of frequencies are mutually exclusive with all frequencies the first set of frequencies; and

wherein said wirelessly transmitting to a destination device a first plurality of subcarriers using a first set of frequencies and a first air interface; and said wirelessly transmitting to the destination device a second plurality of subcarriers using a second set of frequencies and a second air interface that comprises a variant of the first air interface occur over respective first and second intervals of time that do not overlap with one another or overlap with one another at least partially.

19. The method of claim 18 , wherein said at least some frequencies of the second set of frequencies comprises all frequencies of the second set of frequencies.

20. The method of claim 18 ,

wherein said wirelessly transmitting to a destination device a first plurality of subcarriers using a first set of frequencies and a first air interface comprises: wirelessly transmitting to the destination device the first plurality of subcarriers using a first carrier;

wherein said wirelessly transmitting to the destination device a second plurality of subcarriers using a second set of frequencies and a second air interface that comprises a variant of the first air interface comprises: wirelessly transmitting to the destination device the second plurality of subcarriers using a second carrier; and

wherein said second air interface that comprises the variant of the first air interface, comprises a variant of a modulation that is used by the first air interface.

21. The method of claim 18 , further comprising:

wirelessly transmitting to the destination device using the first set of frequencies and a 5G air interface; and

wirelessly transmitting to the destination device using the second set of frequencies and a variant of the 5G air interface.

22. The method of claim 20 , wherein wirelessly transmitting to the destination device using the first carrier and wirelessly transmitting to the destination device using the second carrier occur concurrently with one another or occur sequentially with one another.

23. The method of claim 18 , wherein said second plurality of subcarriers comprises a variant of the first plurality of subcarriers.

24. The method of claim 22 , wherein a frequency content of said first carrier is devoid of any overlap with a frequency content of said second carrier.

25. The method of claim 18 , wherein said first set of frequencies and/or said second set of frequencies comprises/comprise unlicensed frequencies, licensed frequencies and/or microwave frequencies; and wherein said second air interface that comprises a variant of the first air interface comprises a variant of a modulation that is used by the first air interface.

26. The method of claim 18 , wherein said wirelessly receiving by a receiver of the smartphone, by a receiver of the access point or by a receiver of the base station comprises:

wirelessly receiving from the destination device using a first band of frequencies; and

responsive to a size of data that is to be received from the destination device, wirelessly receiving from the destination device using a second band of frequencies;

wherein at least some of the second band of frequencies are mutually exclusive with all frequencies of the first band of frequencies.

27. The method of claim 26 ,

wherein frequencies that are included in said first band of frequencies and/or frequencies that are included in the second band of frequencies comprise unlicensed frequencies, licensed frequencies, frequencies that are used for cellular communications and/or microwave frequencies;

wherein said first air interface comprises a 5G air interface; and

wherein, responsive to said size of data that is to be transmitted to the destination device, said wirelessly transmitting by a transmitter of a smartphone, by a transmitter of an access point or by a transmitter of a base station further comprises wirelessly transmitting to the destination device a third plurality of subcarriers using a third set of frequencies and/or wirelessly transmitting to the destination device a fourth plurality of subcarriers using a fourth set of frequencies.

The method of claim 27 , wherein said wirelessly receiving by a receiver of a smartphone, by a receiver of an access point or by a receiver of a base station comprises wirelessly receiving a plurality of subcarriers associated with a return-link 5G carrier; and wherein, responsive to the size of data that is to be received from the destination device, wirelessly receiving from the destination device using a third band of frequencies and/or a fourth band of frequencies.

The method of claim 18 , wherein said wirelessly receiving by a receiver of the smartphone, by a receiver of the access point or by a receiver of the base station comprises receiving information from the destination device; and, responsive to said receiving information from the destination device, configuring a DFT/FFT and/or an IDFT/IFFT thereof and varying a bandwidth thereof.

30. The method of claim 20 ,

wherein said wirelessly transmitting to the destination device the first plurality of subcarriers using a first carrier comprises wirelessly transmitting the first plurality of subcarriers using a 5G carrier; and

wherein said wirelessly transmitting to the destination device the second plurality of subcarriers using a second carrier comprises wirelessly transmitting the second plurality of subcarriers using a 5G carrier;

wherein said first plurality of subcarriers and said second plurality of subcarriers are transmitted concurrently with one another or sequentially with one another; and

wherein the second plurality of subcarriers comprise a variant of the first plurality of subcarriers.
