Abstract

The present application discloses a composition for the treatment of Painful Damaged Disc Syndrome (PDDS), disc bulge, protrusion and herniation, and a delivery method and recommended treatment protocol for delivering thereto to a subject with an effective dosage of the composition. The composition has anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and vasodilating and antispasmodic properties. The compound is being administered via intravenous drip over a specified period for pain relief.

Claims (15)

1 . A pharmaceutical composition comprising:

(a) at least 0.4 mg of colchicine as an anti-inflammatory agent; and

(b) an effective amount of up to 1000 mg of a magnesium agent selected from a group consisting of magnesium chloride as an antioxidative, vasodilating, antispasmodic and anti-inflammatory agent, wherein the composition is formulated for administration directly, via “drip”, into a vein of a subject.

2 . The composition of claim 1 , wherein the composition additionally comprises at least 50 cc of saline.

3 . The composition of claim 1 , wherein the composition is in a liquid form.

4 . The composition of claim 1 , wherein the colchicine is present in an amount from 0.4 mg to 1.0 mg, and wherein the composition is formulated for administration in a controlled amount of up to 57 cc over 10-30 minutes to treat pain related to intervertebral disc disease and recalcitrant pain effectively.

5 . A method of providing the composition of claim 1 to a subject in need thereof comprising administering the composition to the subject through an intravenous drip in at least one treatment session to initiate effective treatment followed by instruction for further treatment.

6 . The method of claim 5 , wherein the at least one treatment session is a series of treatment sessions to provide effective treatment for pain related to intervertebral disc disease and recalcitrant pain in the subject.

7 . A method of treating a subject comprising administering the composition of claim 1 to the subject in a number of treatment sessions to provide effective treatment to treat one or more pains related to intervertebral disc disease and recalcitrant pain in the subject.

8 . The method of claim 6 , wherein the dosage range of the composition released in each session of the series of treatment sessions is variable.

9 . The method of claim 6 , wherein the dosage range of the composition released in each session of the series of treatment sessions remains the same.

10 . The method of any one of claims 5-9 , wherein the dosage or amount for administration depends upon age and glomerular filtration rate of the subject and pain related to intervertebral disc disease and recalcitrant pain comprising painful damaged disc syndrome (PDDS), comprising of disc bulge, disc protrusion and herniation, giving rise to one or more symptoms of spinal pain with or without radiculopathy in the subject.

11 . The method of claim 7 , wherein the number of treatment sessions depends on intensity of inflammatory pain in the subject.

12 . The method of claim 6 , further comprising evaluating the subject during the series of treatment sessions in order to adjust dosage range of the composition.

13 . The method of claim 7 , wherein the composition additionally comprises at least 50 cc of saline.
