Abstract

Devices, systems, methods, and computer-readable media for registering an electromagnetic registration of a luminal network to a 3D model of the luminal network include accessing a 3D model of a luminal network based on computed tomographic (CT) images of the luminal network, selecting a plurality of reference points within the 3D model of the luminal network, obtaining a plurality of survey points within the luminal network, dividing the 3D model of the luminal network and the luminal network into a plurality of regions, assigning a plurality of weights to the plurality of regions, determining an alignment of the plurality of reference points with the plurality of survey points based on the plurality of weights, and generating a registration based on the alignment, the registration enabling conversion of the plurality of survey points within the luminal network to points within the 3D model of the luminal network.

Claims (59)

1. A system, comprising:

one or more processors; and

one or more processor-readable storage media storing instructions which, when executed by the one or more processors:

generates a plurality of survey points within airways of a patient;

performs a registration of the airways with a 3D model, the 3D model including a plurality of reference points;

divides the 3D model into different regions;

performs a registration for each region; and

merges each regional registration into a single registration between the airways and the 3D model of the airways.

2. The system according to claim 1 , wherein the one or more processor-readable storage media further store instructions which, when executed by the one or more processors:

corrects a displacement between the plurality of reference points and the plurality of survey points based on the single registration.

3. The system according to claim 1 , wherein the one or more processor-readable storage media further store instructions which, when executed by the one or more processors:

assigns a weight to each region of the different regions, wherein performing the registration between the plurality of reference points and the plurality of survey points is based on the weight assigned.

4. The system according to claim 1 , wherein the one or more processor-readable storage media further store instructions which, when executed by the one or more processors:

determines in which region of the different regions each survey point of the plurality of survey points is generated; and

assigns a weight to each survey point of the plurality of survey points based on the region in which the survey point is determined to be generated.

5. The system according to claim 4 , wherein the one or more processor-readable storage media further store instructions which, when executed by the one or more processors:

minimizes a divergence between the plurality of reference points and the plurality of survey points based on the weight assigned to each survey point of the plurality of survey points.

6. The system according to claim 1 , wherein the one or more processor-readable storage media further store instructions which, when executed by the one or more processors:

overlays the plurality of survey points onto the 3D model.

7. The system according to claim 1 , wherein the one or more processor-readable storage media further store instructions which, when executed by the one or more processors

for each region of the different regions:

assigns a plurality of weights that favor the region;

minimizes a divergence between the plurality of reference points and the plurality of survey points based on the plurality of weights assigned; and

generates a regional registration associated with the region based on the divergence.

8. A system, comprising:

one or more processors; and

one or more processor-readable storage media storing instructions which, when executed by the one or more processors:

divides a 3D model of airways of a patient into different regions, the 3D model including a plurality of reference points;

generates a plurality of survey points of the airways;

performs a registration of the airways with a 3D model;

determines in which region of the different regions each survey point of the plurality of survey points is located;

for each region of the different regions of the 3D model, assigns a weight to each survey point of the plurality of survey points based on which region of the different regions in which the survey point is determined to be located;

performs a registration for each of the different region; and

merges each regional registration into a single registration between the airways and the 3D model.

9. The system according to claim 8 , wherein the one or more processor-readable storage media further store instructions which, when executed by the one or more processors:

corrects a displacement between the plurality of reference points and the plurality of survey points.

10. The system according to claim 8 , wherein the one or more processor-readable storage media further store instructions which, when executed by the one or more processors:

minimizes a divergence between the plurality of reference points and the plurality of survey points based on the weight assigned to each survey point of the plurality of survey points.

11. The system according to claim 8 , wherein the one or more processor-readable storage media further store instructions which, when executed by the one or more processors:

overlays the plurality of survey points onto the 3D model.

12. The system according to claim 8 , wherein the one or more processor-readable storage media further store instructions which, when executed by the one or more processors:

for each region of the different regions:

assigns a plurality of weights that favor the region;

minimizes a divergence between the plurality of reference points and the plurality of survey points based on the plurality of weights assigned; and

generates a regional registration associated with the region based on the divergence.

13. The system according to claim 8 , wherein the different regions include at least one transition region.

14. The system according to claim 13 , wherein the different regions include a right lung region, a central region, and a left lung region, and the at least one transition region includes a left-central region and a right-central region.

15. A system, comprising:

one or more processors; and

one or more processor-readable storage media storing instructions which, when executed by the one or more processors:

performs a registration of a patient's airways with a 3D model, the 3D model including a plurality of reference points;

divides a 3D model into different regions;

for each region of the different regions of the 3D model, assigns a weight to each of a plurality of survey points based on which region of the different regions in which the survey point is determined to be generated;

performs a registration for each of the different region by minimizing a divergence between the plurality of reference points and the plurality of survey points based on the weight assigned to each survey point of the plurality of survey points in each region; and

merges each regional registration into a single registration between the patient's airways and the 3D model.

16. The system according to claim 15 , wherein the one or more processor-readable storage media further store instructions which, when executed by the one or more processors:

determines, for each region of the respective different regions, a displacement between the plurality of reference points and the plurality of survey points based on the weight assigned to each survey point of the plurality of survey points located within that region.

17. The system according to claim 16 , wherein the one or more processor-readable storage media further store instructions which, when executed by the one or more processors:

corrects the displacement between the plurality of reference points and the plurality of survey points.
