Abstract

Systems are disclosed relating to a mobile device mounted to a welding helmet such that a wearer of the welding helmet can see a display of the mobile device when wearing the welding helmet. In some examples, the mobile device is mounted such that a camera of the mobile device is unobscured and positioned at approximately eye level, facing the same way the wearer's eyes are facing. In some examples, the simulated training environment may be presented to the user via the display screen of the mobile device, using images captured by the camera of the mobile device, when the mobile device is so mounted to the welding helmet.

Claims (42)

1. A welding system, comprising:

a database storing data representative of one or more associations between one or more users and one or more authorized welding tools, or between the one or more users and one or more licenses; and

a server comprising server processing circuitry configured to:

identify one or more authorized welding tools associated with a user in the database via one or more first queries of the database,

determine whether the one or more authorized welding tools include a particular welding tool,

in response to determining the one or more authorized welding tools does include the particular welding tool, send one or more confirmation signals from the server to a welding simulator,

in response to determining the one or more authorized welding tools does not include the particular welding tool, determine, via the one or more first queries or one or more second queries of the database, whether a license associated with the user permits the user to add additional welding tools to the one or more authorized welding tools,

in response to determining the user is permitted to add additional welding tools, update the database to add the particular welding tool to the one or more authorized welding tools associated with the user in the database, and send one or more confirmation signals from the server to the welding simulator, and

in response to determining the user is not permitted to add additional welding tools to the license, send one or more denial signals from the server to the welding simulator.

2. The welding system of claim 1 , wherein the server processing circuitry is configured to identify the user or the particular welding tool based on a tool identifier or a user identifier.

3. The welding system of claim 2 , further comprising the welding simulator, wherein the welding simulator is configured to send the tool identifier or the user identifier to the server in response to a request to establish wireless communication between the particular welding tool and the welding simulator.

4. The welding system of claim 1 , further comprising the welding simulator, wherein the welding simulator is configured to establish a wireless communication channel between the particular welding tool and the welding simulator in response to receiving the one or more confirmation signals.

5. The welding system of claim 4 , wherein the welding simulator is configured to conduct a welding simulation using data sent from the particular welding tool through the wireless communication channel to the welding simulator.

6. The welding system of claim 1 , further comprising the welding simulator, wherein the welding simulator is configured to decline communication with the particular welding tool in response to receiving the one or more denial signals.

7. The welding system of claim 1 , wherein determining whether the license associated with the user permits the user to add additional welding tools to the one or more authorized welding tools comprises determining whether an associated fee has been paid.

8. A non-transitory computer readable medium comprising machine readable instructions which, when executed by processing circuitry, cause the processing circuitry to:

identify one or more authorized welding tools associated with a user in the database via one or more first queries of the database,

determine whether the one or more authorized welding tools include a particular welding tool identified by the user,

in response to determining the one or more authorized welding tools does include the particular welding tool, send one or more confirmation signals from the server to the welding simulator,

in response to determining the one or more authorized welding tools does not include the particular welding tool, determine, via one or more second queries of the database, whether a license associated with the user permits the user to add additional welding tools to the one or more authorized welding tools,

in response to determining the user is permitted to add additional welding tools, update the database to add the particular welding tool to the one or more authorized welding tools associated with the user in the database, and send one or more confirmation signals from the server to the welding simulator, and

in response to determining the user is not permitted to add additional welding tools to the license, send one or more denial signals from the server to the welding simulator.

9. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 8 , wherein the machine readable instructions, when executed by processing circuitry, further cause the processing circuitry to identify the user based on a user identifier received from a welding simulator.

10. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 9 , wherein the user identifier comprises a user credential.

11. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 8 , wherein the machine readable instructions, when executed by processing circuitry, further cause the processing circuitry to identify the particular welding tool based on a tool identifier received from a welding simulator.

12. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 8 , further comprising a database storing data representative of one or more user-tool associations between the one or more users and the one or more welding tools.

13. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 12 , wherein the data is further representative of one or more user-license associations between the one or more users and the one or more licenses.

14. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 8 , wherein determining whether the license associated with the user permits the user to add additional welding tools to the one or more authorized welding tools comprises determining whether an associated fee has been paid.

15. A method, comprising:

receiving, at a server, one or more tool signals representative of tool information that can be used to identify a welding tool, and one or more user signals representative of user information that can be used to identify a user;

identifying, using processing circuitry of the server, the user and the welding tool based on the tool information and user information;

identifying, using the processing circuitry of the server and one or more first queries of a first database, one or more authorized welding tools associated with the user in the first database;

determining, using the processing circuitry of the server, whether the one or more authorized welding tools include the welding tool;

in response to determining the one or more authorized welding tools does include the welding tool, sending one or more confirmation signals from the server to the welding simulator;

in response to determining the one or more authorized welding tools does not include the welding tool, determining, using the processing circuitry of the server and one or more second queries of the first database or a second database, whether a license associated with the user permits the user to add additional welding tools to the one or more authorized welding tools;

in response to determining the user is permitted to add additional welding tools, updating the first database, using the processing circuitry of the server, to add the welding tool to the one or more authorized welding tools associated with the user in the first database, and sending one or more confirmation signals from the server to the welding simulator; and

in response to determining the user is not permitted to add additional welding tools to the license, sending one or more denial signals from the server to the welding simulator.

16. The method of claim 15 , wherein the one or more tool signals and one or more user signals are sent to the server from a welding simulator in response to a request to establish wireless communication between the welding tool and the welding simulator.

17. The method of claim 16 , further comprising: in response to receiving the one or more confirmation signals at the welding simulator, establishing wireless communications between the welding tool and the welding simulator.

18. The something of claim 17 , further comprising: in response to receiving, at the welding simulator, the one or more denial signals, prohibiting communication between the welding simulator and the welding tool.

19. The method of claim 15 , wherein the user information comprises a user identifier or user credentials, and the tool information comprises a tool identifier.

20. The method of claim 15 , wherein determining whether the license associated with the user permits the user to add additional welding tools to the one or more authorized welding tools comprises determining whether an associated fee has been paid.
