Abstract

A hydrogen fueling station includes a hydrogen supply header, a hydrogen pump cylinder, and a hydrogen piston, the hydrogen piston including a piston seal. The hydrogen pump cylinder is configured to receive hydrogen from the hydrogen supply header. The hydrogen piston, the piston seal, and the hydrogen pump cylinder define at least in part a variable working chamber. The hydrogen piston is configured to provide a stroke length of greater than 310 mm.

Claims (32)

1 . A hydrogen fueling station, comprising:

a hydrogen supply header;

a hydrogen pump cylinder; and

a hydrogen piston, the hydrogen piston including a piston seal, wherein

the hydrogen pump cylinder is configured to receive the hydrogen from the supply header in the hydrogen pump cylinder, wherein the hydrogen pump cylinder is not in a liquid hydrogen sump,

the hydrogen piston, the piston seal, and the hydrogen pump cylinder define at least in part a variable working chamber, and

the hydrogen piston is configured to provide a stroke length of greater than 310 mm.

2 . The hydrogen fueling station of claim 1 , further comprising:

a hydrogen inlet in a roof of the hydrogen pump cylinder; and

a hydrogen outlet in the roof of the hydrogen pump cylinder.

3 . The hydrogen fueling station of claim 2 , wherein the roof is configured as a mechanical stop for the hydrogen piston.

4 . The hydrogen fueling station of claim 3 , wherein the roof is defined by a cylinder cap fixedly sealing the hydrogen pump cylinder.

5 . The hydrogen fueling station of claim 4 , further comprising:

a thermal decoupling rod configured to transfer force to the hydrogen piston to force hydrogen received into the hydrogen pump cylinder out of the hydrogen outlet, wherein the thermal decoupling rod is not mechanically fixed to the hydrogen piston.

6 . The hydrogen fueling station of claim 5 , wherein the stroke length is greater than 500 mm.

7 . The hydrogen fueling station of claim 5 , wherein the stroke length is 600 mm.

8 . The hydrogen fueling station of claim 5 , further comprising:

at least one first stage pump configured to provide hydrogen to the hydrogen supply header.

9 . A cryogenic pump, comprising:

a hydrogen pump cylinder; and

a hydrogen piston, the hydrogen piston including a piston seal, wherein

the hydrogen pump cylinder is configured to receive hydrogen,

the hydrogen piston, the piston seal, and the hydrogen pump cylinder define at least in part a variable working chamber, and

the hydrogen piston is configured to provide a stroke length of greater than 310 mm.

10 . The cryogenic pump of claim 9 , further comprising:

a hydrogen inlet in a roof of the hydrogen pump cylinder; and

a hydrogen outlet in the roof of the hydrogen pump cylinder.

11 . The cryogenic pump of claim 10 , wherein the roof is configured as a mechanical stop for the hydrogen piston.

12 . The cryogenic pump of claim 11 , wherein the roof is defined by a cylinder cap fixedly sealing the hydrogen pump cylinder.

13 . The cryogenic pump of claim 12 , wherein the hydrogen piston includes a lower portion configured to be non-fixedly engaged by a rod configured to transfer force to the hydrogen piston to force hydrogen received into the hydrogen pump cylinder out of the hydrogen outlet.

14 . The hydrogen fueling station of claim 13 , wherein the stroke length is greater than 500 mm.

15 . The hydrogen fueling station of claim 14 , wherein the stroke length is 600 mm.
