Abstract

The present disclosure relates to a method of performing operations for a User Equipment (UE) in a wireless communication system. In particular, the method includes the steps of: receiving a first data unit from an upper layer; receiving a congestion indicator from a network; and based on the first data unit being a critical data unit, transmitting the first data unit to the network, wherein, based on the first data unit not being the critical data unit, the first data unit is discarded.

Claims (48)

1 . A method comprising:

receiving, by a user equipment (UE), information related to an importance based discard from a network, wherein the importance based discard is activated based on the information related to the importance based discard being received;

receiving, by the UE, a Packet-Data Convergence Protocol (PDCP) service data unit (SDU) from an upper layer;

determining, by the UE, whether the PDCP SDU belongs to a low importance set;

wherein based on conditions being met, a first discard timer for the importance based discard is started,

wherein based on at least one of the conditions not being met, a second discard timer is started,

submitting, by the UE, a PDCP protocol data unit (PDU) including the PDCP SDU to a lower layer,

wherein the conditions comprise:

i) the importance based discard is activated,

ii) the PDCP SDU belongs to the low importance set.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein activating the importance based discard comprises configuring the first discard timer for the importance based discard based on the second discard timer.

3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the first discard timer for the importance based discard is shorter than the first second discard timer.

4 . A user equipment (UE) comprising:

at least one processor; and

at least one computer memory storing instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the UE to perform operations comprising:

receiving information related to an importance based discard from a network, wherein the importance based discard is activated based on the information related to the importance based discard being received;

receiving a Packet-Data Convergence Protocol (PDCP) service data unit (SDU) from an upper layer;

determining whether the PDCP SDU belongs to a low importance set;

wherein based on conditions being met, a first discard timer for the importance based discard is started,

wherein based on at least one of the conditions not being met, a second discard timer is started; and

submitting a PDCP protocol data unit (PDU) including the PDCP SDU to a lower layer,

wherein the conditions comprise:

i) the importance based discard is activated,

ii) the PDCP SDU belongs to the low importance set.

5 . The UE of claim 4 , wherein activating the importance based discard comprises configuring the first discard timer for the importance based discard based on the second discard timer.

6 . The UE of claim 4 , wherein the first discard timer for the importance based discard is shorter than the second discard timer.

7 . An apparatus for a user equipment (UE), the apparatus comprising:

at least one processor; and

at least one computer memory storing instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the UE to perform operations comprising:

receiving information related to an importance based discard from a network, wherein the importance based discard is activated based on the information related to the importance based discard being received;

receiving a Packet-Data Convergence Protocol (PDCP) service data unit (SDU) from an upper layer,

determining whether the PDCP SDU belongs to a low importance set;

wherein based on conditions being met, a first discard timer for the importance based discard is started,

wherein based on at least one of the conditions not being met, a second discard timer is started; and

submitting a PDCP protocol data unit (PDU) including the PDCP SDU to a lower layer,

wherein the conditions comprise:

i) the importance based discard is activated,

ii) the PDCP SDU belongs to the low importance set.

8 . A non-transitory computer readable storage medium comprising program instructions that, when executed by at least one processor, cause a user equipment (UE) to perform operations comprising:

receiving information related to an importance based discard from a network, wherein the importance based discard is activated based on the information related to the importance based discard being received;

receiving a Packet-Data Convergence Protocol (PDCP) service data unit (SDU) from an upper layer;

determining whether the PDCP SDU belongs to a low importance set;

wherein based on conditions being met, a first discard timer for the importance based discard is started,

wherein based on at least one of the conditions not being met, a second discard timer is started; and

submitting a PDCP protocol data unit (PDU) including the PDCP SDU to a lower layer,

wherein the conditions comprise:

i) the importance based discard is activated,

ii) the PDCP SDU belongs to the low importance set.
