Abstract

Methods, apparatus, and systems are described for improved application interaction for network slicing. A wireless transmit/receive unit may send, to a network node, a registration request including an indication that the WTRU is capable of receiving information associated with a temporal availability of a network slice. The WTRU may receive a registration response including the information associated with the temporal availability of the network slice. The WTRU may determine, based on the temporal availability of the network slice, to stop use of a protocol data unit (PDU) session associated with the network slice.

Claims (28)

1 . A method performed by a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU), the method comprising:

sending a registration request message to a network, the registration request message comprising a capability field indicating that the WTRU is capable of receiving network slice temporal availability information;

receiving a message from the network, the message including temporal availability information for at least a first network slice and a second network slice in response to the capability field indicating that the WTRU is capable of receiving the network slice temporal availability information;

establishing a first protocol data unit (PDU) session associated with the first network slice for communicating data associated with an application;

determining that the first network slice is unavailable based on the temporal availability information for the first network slice;

halting the first PDU session associated with the first network slice based on the first network slice being unavailable according to the temporal availability information for the first network slice; and

establishing a second PDU session associated with the second network slice, wherein the WTRU determines to attempt to use the second network slice for communicating the data associated with the application based on the temporal availability information for the second network slice indicating that the second network slice is available and the temporal availability information for the first network slice indicating that the first network slice is unavailable, wherein one or more user equipment route selection policy (URSP) rules are evaluated to select the second network slice.

2 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising notifying the application that the first network slice has become unavailable.

3 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising notifying the application that the first network slice is becoming unavailable prior to a time when the temporal availability information for the first network slice indicates that the first network slice will become unavailable.

4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the temporal availability information for the first network slice indicates that the first network slice will be unavailable for a first time period, and the temporal availability information for the second network slice indicates that the second network slice will be unavailable for a second time period.

5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the message is a registration response message received in response to the registration request message.

6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the message is a configuration update message.

7 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising, on a condition that the first network slice is available, sending the data associated with the application to the network using the first PDU session.

8 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising receiving updated temporal availability information for at least one of the first network slice or the second network slice.

9 . A wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) comprising a processor configured to:

send a registration request message to a network, the registration request message comprising a capability field indicating that the WTRU is capable of receiving network slice temporal availability information;

receive a message from the network, the message including temporal availability information for at least a first network slice and a second network slice in response to the capability field indicating that the WTRU is capable of receiving the network slice temporal availability information;

establish a first protocol data unit (PDU) session associated with the first network slice for communicating data associated with an application;

determine that the first network slice is unavailable based on the temporal availability information for the first network slice;

halt the first PDU session associated with the first network slice based on the first network slice being unavailable according to the temporal availability information for the first network slice; and

establish a second PDU session associated with the second network slice, wherein the WTRU determines to attempt to use the second network slice for communicating the data associated with the application based on the temporal availability information for the second network slice indicating that the second network slice is available and the temporal availability information for the first network slice indicating that the first network slice is unavailable, wherein the WTRU is configured to evaluate one or more user equipment route selection policy (URSP) rules a to select the second network slice.

10 . The WTRU of claim 9 , wherein the processor is further configured to notify the application that the first network slice has become unavailable.

11 . The WTRU of claim 9 , wherein the processor is further configured to notify the application that the first network slice is becoming unavailable prior to a time when the temporal availability information for the first network slice indicates that the first network slice will become unavailable.

12 . The WTRU of claim 9 , wherein the temporal availability information for the first network slice indicates that the first network slice will be unavailable for a first time period, and the temporal availability information for the second network slice indicates that the second network slice will be unavailable for a second time period.

13 . The WTRU of claim 9 , wherein the message is a registration response message received in response to the registration request message.

14 . The WTRU of claim 9 , wherein the message is a configuration update message.

15 . The WTRU of claim 9 , wherein the processor is further configured to, on a condition that the first network slice is available, send the data associated with the application to the network using the first PDU session.

16 . The WTRU of claim 9 , wherein the processor is further configured to receive updated temporal availability information for at least one of the first network slice or the second network slice.
