Abstract

In certain implementations, a border VTEP device sends, to a second border VTEP devices, a first PIM-SM hello message indicating the border VTEP device is a local RP in a first fabric of a VxLAN. The border VTEP device receives a second PIM-SM hello message indicating that the second border VTEP devices is a local RP in a second fabric. A first PIM-SM control message is sent to the second border VTEP device, indicating PIM-SM sources in the first fabric, including a first PIM-SM source. A second PIM-SM control message is received from the second border VTEP device indicating PIM-SM sources in the second fabric. A PIM-SM join message specifying the first PIM-SM source is received from a receiver DR for a PIM-SM receiver. A PIM-SM data stream is forwarded from a source DR to the receiver DR.

after a timeout period expires without receiving the PIM-SM register message from the source DR, removing the source information and the group information for the first PIM-SM source from the first PIM-SM hello message.

7 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

sending, from the first border VTEP device to at least one network device at the first fabric, a third PIM-SM hello message indicating that the first border VTEP device is the first RP for the first fabric.

receive, using the first network port from the second border network device using the VTEP connection, a second PIM control message indicative of remote PIM-SM sources in the second fabric;

receive, using the second network port from a receiver designated router (DR) located in the first fabric and associated with a first PIM-SM receiver, a PIM-SM join message indicating a PIM-SM group associated with the first PIM-SM source; and

forward, using the second network port to the receiver DR, a PIM-SM data stream received from a source DR in the first fabric associated with the first PIM-SM source.

9 . The border network device of claim 8 , further comprising instructions to:

in response to the PIM-SM join message from the receiver DR, create a rendezvous point tree (RPT) between the border network device and the receiver DR; and

forward the PIM-SM data stream using the RPT.

10 . The border network device of claim 8 , further comprising instructions to:

receive, using the second network port from the source DR, a PIM-SM register message indicating source information and group information for the first PIM-SM source.
