Abstract

A system is provided for inserting a pre-encoded media asset in a media feed of a first channel based on an input on a notification associated with a media item and a defined selection parameter. Based on the pre-encoded media asset inserted in different channels and the defined selection parameter, a plurality of new channels is created. Based on a re-use of the pre-encoded media asset for one of the plurality of new channels, the plurality of new channels is created independent of an encoding operation prior to a distribution of program streams of the plurality of new channels to a plurality of consumer devices. The plurality of new channels is delivered over a distribution network without being required to be re-encoded.

Claims (46)

1 . A system comprising memory and one or more processors communicatively coupled to the memory, the one or more processors configured to:

select one or more pre-encoded media assets from a plurality of pre-encoded media assets for insertion to a media feed associated with a channel;

receive a manifest corresponding to the channel;

generate an updated manifest by inserting, into the manifest, one or more references to the one or more pre-encoded media assets; and

initiate a presentation of the channel by providing the updated manifest to one or more of a plurality of client devices.

2 . The system according to claim 1 , wherein the one or more processors are further configured to:

identify the one or more pre-encoded media assets based at least in part on a content context analysis of the plurality of pre-encoded media assets.

3 . The system according to claim 1 , wherein the one or more processors are further configured to:

identify the one or more pre-encoded media assets based at least in part on a user-selection.

4 . The system according to claim 1 , wherein the one or more processors are further configured to:

identify the one or more pre-encoded media assets based at least in part on external data received from an external data source.

5 . The system according to claim 1 , wherein the one or more processors are further configured to:

identify the one or more pre-encoded media assets based at least in part on aggregate interest level of a plurality of users.

6 . The system according to claim 1 , wherein the manifest is generated independently of an encoding operation for distribution of a program stream for the channel.

7 . The system according to claim 1 , wherein the one or more processors are further configured to:

provide adaptive bitrate streaming of the one or more pre-encoded media assets by accessing the plurality of pre-encoded media assets using the one or more references, wherein the plurality of pre-encoded media assets is stored at a plurality of quality levels and a plurality of content encryption modes corresponding to a plurality of delivery methods.

8 . A computer-implemented method comprising:

selecting one or more pre-encoded media assets from a plurality of pre-encoded media assets for insertion to a media feed associated with a channel;

receiving a manifest corresponding to the channel;

generating an updated manifest by inserting, into the manifest, one or more references to the one or more pre-encoded media assets; and

initiating a presentation of the channel by providing the updated manifest to one or more of a plurality of client devices.

9 . The computer-implemented method according to claim 8 , further comprising:

identifying the one or more pre-encoded media assets based at least in part on a content context analysis of the plurality of pre-encoded media assets.

10 . The computer-implemented method according to claim 8 , further comprising:

identifying the one or more pre-encoded media assets based at least in part on a user-selection.

11 . The computer-implemented method according to claim 8 , further comprising:

identifying the one or more pre-encoded media assets based at least in part on external data received from an external data source.

12 . The computer-implemented method according to claim 8 , further comprising:

identifying the one or more pre-encoded media assets based at least in part on aggregate interest level of a plurality of users.

13 . The computer-implemented method according to claim 8 , wherein the manifest is generated independently of an encoding operation for distribution of a program stream for the channel.

14 . The computer-implemented method according to claim 8 , further comprising:

providing adaptive bitrate streaming of the one or more pre-encoded media assets by accessing the plurality of pre-encoded media assets using the one or more references, wherein the plurality of pre-encoded media assets is stored at a plurality of quality levels and a plurality of content encryption modes corresponding to a plurality of delivery methods.

15 . One or more non-transitory computer-readable storage media comprising instructions that, when executed by one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to:

select one or more pre-encoded media assets from a plurality of pre-encoded media assets for insertion to a media feed associated with a channel;

receive a manifest corresponding to the channel;

generate an updated manifest by inserting, into the manifest, one or more references to the one or more pre-encoded media assets; and

initiate a presentation of the channel by providing the updated manifest to one or more of a plurality of client devices.

16 . The one or more non-transitory computer-readable storage media according to claim 15 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to:

identify the one or more pre-encoded media assets based at least in part on a content context analysis of the plurality of pre-encoded media assets.

17 . The one or more non-transitory computer-readable storage media according to claim 15 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to:

identify the one or more pre-encoded media assets based at least in part on a user-selection.

18 . The one or more non-transitory computer-readable storage media according to claim 15 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to:

identify the one or more pre-encoded media assets based at least in part on external data received from an external data source.

19 . The one or more non-transitory computer-readable storage media according to claim 15 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to:

identify the one or more pre-encoded media assets based at least in part on aggregate interest level of a plurality of users.

20 . The one or more non-transitory computer-readable storage media according to claim 15 , wherein the manifest is generated independently of an encoding operation for distribution of a program stream for the channel.
