Abstract

A wireless communication device and a communication method for header repetition are described. The device and method receive and decode a wireless packet through a communication channel. Formats of the wireless packet includes a first packet format and a second packet format. In this regard, the first packet format comprises a first header field carried by a first orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) symbol while the second packet format comprises both the first header field carried by the first OFDM symbol and a second header field carried by a second OFDM symbol which follows the first OFDM symbol. The second header field is a repetition of the first header field. According to an exemplary embodiment, the second packet format is distinguished from the first packet format by detecting, from the received wireless packet, the second header field which repeats the first header field.

Claims (26)

1 . A wireless communication device, the device comprising:

a transceiver configured to receive and decode a wireless packet through a communication channel,

wherein a format of the wireless packet is one of a first packet format and a second packet format, the first packet format comprises a first header field carried by a first orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) symbol, and the second packet format comprises both the first header field carried by the first OFDM symbol and a second header field carried by a second OFDM symbol which follows the first OFDM symbol,

wherein the second header field is a repetition of the first header field and is carried by the second OFDM symbol in a same order as the first header field carried by the first OFDM symbol, and

wherein the transceiver is configured to determine the format of the wireless packet between the first packet format and the second packet format by detecting, from the wireless packet, the second header field which repeats the first header field.

2 . The wireless communication device of claim 1 , wherein the wireless packet further comprises a payload which follows a header including at least the first header field, and

wherein the repetition is selectively applied to one or more header fields included in the header, based on whether the format of the wireless packet is the first packet format or the second packet format, while not being applied to the payload.

3 . The wireless communication device of claim 1 , wherein the transceiver is configured to receive and decode both wireless packets of the first packet format and wireless packets of the second packet format in a same network.

4 . The wireless communication device of claim 1 , wherein the transceiver determines the format of the wireless packet as the first packet format when the second header field is not detected from the wireless packet.

5 . The wireless communication device of claim 1 , wherein the transceiver determines the format of the wireless packet as the second packet format when the second header field is detected from the wireless packet.

6 . The wireless communication device of claim 1 , wherein the first and second header fields contain information for decoding the wireless packet.

7 . The wireless communication device of claim 1 , wherein the first and second header fields contain information related to a length of the wireless packet.

8 . A wireless communication method of a wireless communication device, the method comprising:

receiving a wireless packet through a communication channel,

wherein a format of the wireless packet is one of a first packet format and a second packet format, the first packet format comprises a first header field carried by a first orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) symbol, and the second packet format comprises both the first header field carried by the first OFDM symbol and a second header field carried by a second OFDM symbol which follows the first OFDM symbol, and

wherein the second header field is a repetition of the first header field and is carried by the second OFDM symbol in a same order as the first header field carried by the first OFDM symbol;

determining the format of the wireless packet,

wherein the format of the wireless packet is determined between the first packet format and the second packet format by detecting, from the wireless packet, the second header field which repeats the first header field; and

decoding the wireless packet based on the determined format of the wireless packet.

9 . The wireless communication method of claim 8 , wherein the wireless packet further comprises a payload which follows a header including at least the first header field, and

wherein the repetition is selectively applied to one or more header fields included in the header, based on whether the format of the wireless packet is the first packet format or the second packet format, while not being applied to the payload.

10 . The wireless communication method of claim 8 , wherein the first packet format and the second packet format are used in a same network.

11 . The wireless communication method of claim 8 , wherein the determining step determines the format of the wireless packet as the first packet format when the second header field is not detected from the wireless packet.

12 . The wireless communication method of claim 8 , wherein the determining step determines the format of the wireless packet as the second packet format when the second header field is detected from the wireless packet.

13 . The wireless communication method of claim 8 , wherein the first and second header fields contain information for decoding the wireless packet.

14 . The wireless communication method of claim 8 , wherein the first and second header fields contain information related to a length of the wireless packet.
