Abstract

A method for channel switching by a secondary node. The method includes: receiving, from a primary node, a downlink transmission, measuring one or more statistics about the downlink transmission, determining, from the downlink transmission, an uplink interval, transmitting, to the primary node during the uplink interval, the measured one or more statistics about the downlink transmission, receiving, from the primary node, an indication of a set of useable channels, determining, based on the set of useable channels and at least one of the primary node or the secondary node, a next channel from the set of useable channels, and switching to the next channel based on a switch indication from the primary node.

Claims (52)

1 . A device comprising:

a transceiver circuit configurable to:

transmit a downlink transmission; and

receive uplink transmissions from a set of secondary nodes after transmitting the downlink transmission, wherein the uplink transmissions include one or more statistics about the downlink transmission; and

a controller coupled to the transceiver circuit and configurable to:

measure one or more statistics about the uplink transmissions;

determine a set of useable channels using the one or more statistics about the downlink transmission and using the measured one or more statistics about the uplink transmissions; and

cause the transceiver circuit to transmit an indication of the set of useable channels to the set of secondary nodes.

2 . The device of claim 1 , wherein the controller is configurable to:

determine a next channel from the set of useable channels; and

switch to the next channel.

3 . The device of claim 2 , wherein the controller is configurable to determine the next channel and switch to the next channel without the transceiver circuit transmitting an indication of the next channel to the set of secondary nodes.

4 . The device of claim 2 ,

wherein the controller is configurable to determine the next channel using an identifier of the device,

wherein the device is a primary node in a communication network, and

wherein the communication network includes the set of secondary nodes.

5 . The device of claim 2 , wherein the controller is configurable to determine the next channel using a hashing algorithm.

6 . The device of claim 1 , wherein the controller is configurable to cause the transceiver circuit to transmit information relating to a number of frames before switching to a next channel to the set of secondary nodes.

7 . The device of claim 1 ,

wherein the transceiver circuit is configurable to receive acknowledgments to the indication of the set of useable channels from the set of secondary nodes, and

wherein the controller is configurable to:

determine that the transceiver circuit has not received an acknowledgment from at least one of the set of secondary nodes; and

cause the transceiver circuit to re-transmit the indication of the set of useable channels to the set of secondary nodes in response to determining that the transceiver circuit has not received the acknowledgment from at least one of the set of secondary nodes.

8 . The device of claim 1 , wherein the one or more statistics about the uplink transmissions include a packet error rate measurement.

9 . The device of claim 1 , wherein the one or more statistics about the downlink transmission include a packet error rate measurement.

10 . The device of claim 1 , wherein the one or more statistics about the uplink transmissions include a retransmission rate measurement or a signal-to-noise ratio measurement.

11 . The device of claim 1 , wherein the indication of the set of useable channels includes a bitmap.

12 . A device comprising:

a transceiver circuit configurable to:

receive a downlink transmission from a primary node;

transmit an uplink transmission after receiving the downlink transmission; and

receive a set of useable channels from the primary node after transmitting the uplink transmission; and

a controller coupled to the transceiver circuit and configurable to:

measure one or more statistics about the downlink transmission;

cause the transceiver circuit to transmit the uplink transmission with the measured one or more statistics;

determine a next channel from the set of useable channels; and

switch to the next channel.

13 . The device of claim 12 , wherein the controller is configurable to determine the next channel and switch to the next channel without receiving an indication of the next channel from the primary node.

14 . The device of claim 12 , wherein the controller is configurable to determining the next channel using an identifier of the primary node.

15 . The device of claim 12 , wherein the controller is configurable to determine the next channel using a hashing algorithm.

16 . The device of claim 12 , wherein the transceiver circuit is configurable to receive information relating to a number of frames before switching to the next channel.

17 . The device of claim 12 , wherein the one or more statistics about the downlink transmission include a packet error rate measurement.

18 . The device of claim 12 , wherein the one or more statistics about the downlink transmission include a retransmission rate measurement or a signal-to-noise ratio measurement.

19 . The device of claim 12 , wherein the set of useable channels is represented by a bitmap.

20 . A device comprising:

a transceiver circuit configurable to:

transmit a downlink transmission; and

receive uplink transmissions from a set of secondary nodes after transmitting the downlink transmission, wherein the uplink transmissions include a first packet error rate measurement of the downlink transmission; and

a controller coupled to the transceiver circuit and configurable to:

measure a second packet error rate measurement of the uplink transmissions;

determine a set of useable channels using the first and second packet error rate measurements; and

cause the transceiver circuit to transmit an indication of the set of useable channels and to transmit information relating to a number of frames before to the next channel.
