Abstract

An enclosure for retaining at least one networking component may include a shell forming first and second chambers and including at least one lift securing member, a dielectric fluid adapted to be disposed in the first chamber, a mounting mechanism at least partially disposed within the first chamber, a lifting assembly removably coupled with the lift securing member, a coolant distribution line at least partially disposed within the first chamber, and a coolant circulator. The mounting mechanism includes at least one coupling member adapted to retain at least one active networking component. The lifting assembly is adapted to be positionable near the mounting mechanism to selectively insert the networking component into the first chamber or to remove the networking component therefrom. The coolant distribution line includes an elongated member having at least one opening formed on a portion thereof. The mounting mechanism may be submerged in the dielectric fluid.

Claims (46)

1. An enclosure for retaining at least one active networking component, the enclosure comprising:

a shell forming a first chamber and a second chamber and including at least two lift securing members;

a dielectric fluid adapted to be disposed in the first chamber;

a mounting mechanism at least partially disposed within the first chamber, the mounting mechanism including at least one coupling member adapted to retain the at least one active networking component;

a lifting assembly removably coupled with the at least two lift securing members of the shell, the lifting assembly adapted to be positionable near the mounting mechanism to selectively insert the at least one networking component into the first chamber or remove the at least one networking component from the first chamber;

a coolant distribution line at least partially disposed within the first chamber of the shell, the coolant distribution line including an elongated member having at least one opening formed on a portion thereof;

a coolant circulator at least partially disposed within the shell, the coolant circulator adapted to circulate the dielectric fluid within the first chamber of the shell via the coolant distribution line;

wherein the mounting mechanism is adapted to be submerged in the dielectric fluid.

2. The enclosure of claim 1 , wherein the lifting assembly includes:

at least one frame member operably coupled with the lift securing member of the shell via a bracket;

a track operably coupled with the at least one frame member, the track having an elongated length; and

a hoist assembly operably coupled with the track, the hoist assembly including at least one fastener adapted to couple with the at least one networking component;

wherein the fastener is movable between a raised position and a lowered position.

3. The enclosure of claim 2 , wherein the hoist assembly includes at least one gear system engageable to selectively move the fastener.

4. The enclosure of claim 3 , wherein the fastener includes at least one cable operably coupled with the gear system.

5. The enclosure of claim 2 , wherein the hoist assembly is movable along the elongated length of the track.

6. The enclosure of claim 2 , wherein the hoist assembly is engageable by a rotary driving mechanism.

7. The enclosure of claim 1 , wherein the mounting mechanism is vertically oriented such that the at least one networking component is adapted to be lowered into the mounting mechanism.

8. The enclosure of claim 7 , wherein the mounting mechanism includes at least one rack member.

9. The enclosure of claim 1 , further including a cover adapted to seal the first chamber and the second chamber of the shell.

10. The enclosure of claim 1 , further comprising a primary power source at least partially disposed within the first chamber, the primary power source adapted to be submerged in the dielectric fluid and to provide power to the at least one active networking component.

11. The enclosure of claim 10 , further comprising a secondary power source at least partially disposed within the second chamber, the secondary power source adapted to provide power to the at least one active networking component.

12. A method of assembling an enclosure for retaining at least one active networking component, the method comprising:

providing a shell forming a first chamber and a second chamber and including at least two lift securing members;

coupling a mounting mechanism with the first chamber of the shell, the mounting mechanism including at least one coupling member adapted to retain the at least one active networking component;

coupling a lifting assembly with the shell via the at least two lift securing members thereof, a portion of the lifting assembly being movable between a raised position and a lowered position;

positioning at least a portion of the lifting assembly near the mounting mechanism;

coupling the at least one active networking component with a portion of the lifting assembly while the lifting assembly is in the raised position;

moving the lifting assembly to the lowered position such that the at least one active networking component engages the at least one coupling member of the mounting mechanism;

decoupling the at least one active networking component from the lifting assembly;

disposing a dielectric fluid within the first chamber of the shell such that the at least one active networking component is submerged by the dielectric fluid; and

decoupling the lifting assembly from the at least two lift securing members of the shell and removing the lifting assembly from the enclosure.

13. The method of claim 12 , wherein the lifting assembly includes:

at least one frame member operably coupled with the lift securing member of the shell via a bracket;

a track operably coupled with the at least one frame member, the track having an elongated length; and

a hoist assembly operably coupled with the track, the hoist assembly including at least one fastener, wherein the step of coupling the at least one active networking component with a portion of the lifting assembly comprises coupling the at least one fastener with the at least one networking component;

wherein the at least one fastener is movable between the raised position and a lowered position.

14. The method of claim 13 , wherein the step of moving the lifting assembly to the lowered position includes engaging at least one gear system to selectively move the fastener.

15. The method of claim 14 , wherein the fastener includes at least one cable, the method further comprising the step of operably coupling the fastener with the gear system.

16. The method of claim 13 , further comprising the step of moving the hoist assembly along the elongated length of the track.

17. The method of claim 13 , further comprising the step of engaging the hoist assembly with a rotary driving mechanism.

18. The method of claim 12 , further comprising the step of sealing the first chamber and the second chamber of the shell via a cover.

19. The method of claim 12 , further comprising the steps of:
