Abstract

Systems, apparatuses, and methods are described for wireless communications. A session management function may provide to a user plane function one or more messages comprising an Ethernet packet filter set and/or information for at least one policy rule. The user plane function may apply the at least one policy rule to a data flow to provide an Ethernet packet data unit session for a wireless device.

Claims (42)

1 . A method comprising:

receiving, by a first core network device, a packet data unit (PDU) session establishment request message, wherein the PDU session establishment request message comprises a medium access control (MAC) address for a wireless device; and

sending, by the first core network device to a second core network device, an Ethernet packet filter set comprising the MAC address.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the PDU session establishment request message further comprises at least one of:

an Ethertype;

a virtual local area network tag; or

an Internet protocol packet filter set.

3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the PDU session establishment request message comprises the Ethernet packet filter set.

4 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising receiving, by the first core network device from the second core network device, a message indicating establishment of a PDU session.

5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the first core network device comprises a session management function, and wherein the second core network device comprises a user plane function.

6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the receiving the PDU session establishment request message comprises receiving the PDU session establishment request message from the wireless device via an access and mobility management function.

7 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

receiving, by the first core network device from a policy control function, a policy and charging control (PCC) rule, wherein the PCC rule is based on the MAC address.

8 . The method of claim 7 , further comprising sending, by the first core network device to the policy control function, a request for the PCC rule, wherein the request comprises the MAC address.

9 . A first core network device comprising:

one or more processors; and

memory storing instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the first core network device to:

receive a packet data unit (PDU) session establishment request message, wherein the PDU session establishment request message comprises a medium access control (MAC) address for a wireless device; and

send, to a second core network device, an Ethernet packet filter set comprising the MAC address.

10 . The first core network device of claim 9 , wherein the PDU session establishment request message further comprises at least one of:

an Ethertype;

a virtual local area network tag; or

an Internet protocol packet filter set.

11 . The first core network device of claim 9 , wherein the PDU session establishment request message comprises the Ethernet packet filter set.

12 . The first core network device of claim 9 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the one or more processors, further cause the first core network device to receive, from the second core network device, a message indicating establishment of a PDU session.

13 . The first core network device of claim 9 , wherein the first core network device comprises a session management function, and wherein the second core network device comprises a user plane function.

14 . The first core network device of claim 9 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the first core network device to receive the PDU session establishment request message by receiving the PDU session establishment request message from the wireless device via an access and mobility management function.

15 . The first core network device of claim 9 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the one or more processors, further cause the first core network device to receive, from a policy control function, a policy and charging control (PCC) rule, wherein the PCC rule is based on the MAC address.

16 . The first core network device of claim 15 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the one or more processors, further cause the first core network device to send, to the policy control function, a request for the PCC rule, wherein the request comprises the MAC address.

17 . A non-transitory computer-readable medium storing instructions that, when executed, cause:

receiving, by a first core network device, a packet data unit (PDU) session establishment request message, wherein the PDU session establishment request message comprises a medium access control (MAC) address for a wireless device; and

sending, by the first core network device to a second core network device, an Ethernet packet filter set comprising the MAC address.

18 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 17 , wherein the PDU session establishment request message further comprises at least one of:

an Ethertype;

a virtual local area network tag; or

an Internet protocol packet filter set.

19 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 17 , wherein the PDU session establishment request message comprises the Ethernet packet filter set.

20 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 17 , wherein the instructions, when executed, further cause receiving, from the second core network device, a message indicating establishment of a PDU session.

21 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 17 , wherein the first core network device comprises a session management function, and wherein the second core network device comprises a user plane function.

22 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 17 , wherein the instructions, when executed, cause the receiving the PDU session establishment request message by receiving the PDU session establishment request message from the wireless device via an access and mobility management function.

23 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 17 , wherein the instructions, when executed, further cause receiving, from a policy control function, a policy and charging control (PCC) rule, wherein the PCC rule is based on the MAC address.

24 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 23 , wherein the instructions, when executed, further cause sending, to the policy control function, a request for the PCC rule, wherein the request comprises the MAC address.
