Abstract

Claims (33)

1. A portable container for medicines, vaccines, biological samples or other medical goods, comprising:

an outer housing;

a vacuum insulated container body having an outer perimeter surrounded by the outer housing and having a chamber configured to removably receive one or more medicines, vaccines, biological samples or other medical goods;

a lid operable to access the chamber;

an electronic system of the container body, comprising:

one or more batteries, and

circuitry configured to wirelessly communicate with a cloud-based data storage system or a remote electronic device;

one or more Global Positioning System (GPS) sensors configured to provide a GPS location of the portable container, the circuitry configured to wirelessly communicate the sensed GPS location to a cloud-based data storage system or a remote electronic device, and

an electronic display screen configured to selectively display an electronic shipping label for the portable container.

The portable container of claim 1 , further comprising one or more volumes of a phase change material or thermal mass disposed in the chamber and configured to at least partially surround and face the one or more medicines, vaccines, biological samples or other medical goods to cool the one or more medicines, vaccines, biological samples or other medical goods.

3. The portable container of claim 2 , wherein the one or more volumes of phase change material or thermal mass are removably disposed in the chamber.

The portable container of claim 1 , wherein the circuitry is further configured to a) automatically switch sender and recipient information on the electronic display screen to facilitate return of the portable container to a sender and b) automatically contact a shipping carrier to alert the shipping carrier that a new electronic shipping label has been issued and that the portable container is ready for pickup.

5. The portable container of claim 4 , further comprising one or more sensors configured to sense one or more parameters of the chamber and to communicate the sensed parameters to the circuitry.

6. The portable container of claim 5 , wherein at least one of the one or more sensors is a temperature sensor configured to sense a temperature in the chamber.

7. The portable container of claim 1 , wherein the electronic display screen is an electrophoretic ink display screen.

8. The portable container of claim 1 , wherein the lid is a vacuum insulated lid.

9. The portable container of claim 1 , wherein at least a portion of the outer housing comprises a thermally insulative material.

10. The portable container of claim 9 , wherein at least a portion of the outer housing comprises an impact resistant material.

11. A portable container for medicines, vaccines, biological samples or other medical goods, comprising:

a vacuum insulated container body having a chamber configured to removably receive one or more medicines, vaccines, biological samples or other medical goods;

one or more volumes of a phase change material or thermal mass disposed in the chamber and configured to at least partially surround and face the one or more medicines, vaccines, biological samples or other medical goods;

a lid operable to access the chamber;

an electronic system of the container body, comprising:

one or more batteries, and

circuitry configured to wirelessly communicate with a cloud-based data storage system or a remote electronic device, and

one or more Global Positioning System (GPS) sensors configured to provide a GPS location of the portable container, the circuitry configured to wirelessly communicate the sensed GPS location to a cloud-based data storage system or a remote electronic device; and

an electronic display screen on one of the lid and the container body.

12. The portable container of claim 11 , wherein the one or more volumes of the phase change material or thermal mass comprises one or more ice packs.

13. The portable container of claim 12 , wherein the one or more volumes of phase change material or thermal mass are removably disposed in the chamber.

The portable container of claim 11 , wherein the circuitry is further configured to a) automatically switch sender and recipient information on the electronic display screen to facilitate return of the portable container to a sender and b) automatically contact a shipping carrier to alert the shipping carrier that a new electronic shipping label has been issued and that the portable container is ready for pickup.

15. The portable container of claim 14 , further comprising one or more sensors configured to sense one or more parameters of the chamber and to communicate the sensed parameters to the circuitry.

16. The portable container of claim 15 , wherein at least one of the one or more sensors is a temperature sensor configured to sense a temperature in the chamber.

17. The portable container of claim 11 , wherein the lid is a vacuum insulated lid.
