Abstract

Systems and methods are provided for decoding secure tags using an authentication server and secure tag reader. The system can include at least one processor and at least one non-transitory memory. The memory can contain instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the secure tag reader to perform operations. The operations can include detecting a potential secure tag in an image and generating a normalized secure tag image using the image and a stylesheet. The operations can further include providing an identification request to an authentication server, the identification request including the normalized secure tag image. The operations can additionally include receiving rules for decoding tag data encoded into the secure tag as tag feature options and decoding the tag data using the received rules.

Claims (61)

1 . A secure tag system, comprising:

at least one processor; and

at least one non-transitory memory containing instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the system to perform operations for authenticating a secure tag that encodes first authentication information as a selection of secure tag feature options specified in a stylesheet, the first authentication information generated using first contextual data, the operations comprising:

obtaining image data depicting the secure tag;

obtaining second contextual data;

decoding the first authentication information from the secure tag;

authenticating the secure tag using the decoded first authentication information and the second contextual data; and

providing an indication of authentication.

2 . The secure tag system of claim 1 , wherein:

the first contextual data comprises at least one of an authentication credential, a biometric identifier, a sound file, a tag identifier, or image data.

3 . The secure tag system of claim 1 , wherein:

the biometric identifier comprises a fingerprint, voiceprint, or face image.

4 . The secure tag system of claim 1 , wherein:

the secure tag labels an item, and the image data depicts a portion of the item or a person associated with the item.

5 . The secure tag system of claim 1 , wherein:

authenticating the secure tag using the decoded first authentication information and the second contextual data comprises:

generating second authentication information using the second contextual data; and

determining that the decoded first authentication information and the second authentication information satisfy a similarity criterion.

6 . The secure tag system of claim 1 , wherein:

obtaining the second contextual data comprises requesting the second contextual data and receiving the contextual information in response to the request.

7 . The secure tag system of claim 1 , wherein:

decoding the first authentication information comprises determining ratios of tag features in the secure tag.

8 . The secure tag system of claim 1 , wherein:

at least one of the image data and the second contextual data is obtained from a mobile device; and

the indication of authentication is provided to the mobile device.

9 . A secure tag system, comprising:

at least one processor; and

at least one non-transitory memory containing instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the system to perform operations for authenticating a secure tag that encodes first authentication information as a selection of secure tag feature options specified in a stylesheet, the first authentication information generated using contextual data, the operations comprising:

obtaining a first image depicting the secure tag and the contextual data displayed together on a physical item or digital product;

decoding the first authentication information using the depiction of the secure tag in the first image;

authenticating the secure tag using the decoded first authentication information and the depiction of the contextual data in the first image; and

providing an indication of authentication.

10 . The secure tag system of claim 9 , wherein:

the contextual data encodes authentication information for the secure tag.

11 . The secure tag system of claim 9 , wherein:

the contextual data comprises an image, pattern, or texture.

12 . The secure tag system of claim 11 , wherein:

the pattern or texture is a characteristic of the physical item or digital product.

13 . The secure tag system of claim 9 , wherein:

the first authentication information is generated using a second image of the contextual data displayed on the physical item or digital product.

14 . The secure tag system of claim 9 , wherein:

authenticating the secure tag using the decoded first authentication information and the depiction of the contextual data in the first image comprises:

generating second authentication information using the depiction of contextual data in the first image; and

determining that the decoded first authentication information and the second authentication information satisfy a similarity criterion.

15 . The secure tag system of claim 9 , wherein:

decoding the first authentication information comprises determining ratios of tag features in the secure tag.

16 . The secure tag system of claim 9 , wherein:

The first image is obtained from a mobile device; and

the indication of authentication is provided to the mobile device.

17 . A secure tag system, comprising:

at least one processor; and

at least one non-transitory memory containing instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the server to perform operations for authenticating a secure tag including tag features embodying a selection of secure tag feature options specified in a stylesheet, the operations comprising:

obtaining a first image depicting the secure tag and contextual data displayed together on a physical item or digital product;

authenticating the secure tag using the tag features and the depiction of the contextual data in the first image; and

providing an indication of authentication.

18 . The secure tag system of claim 17 , wherein:

authenticating the secure tag using the tag features and the depiction of the visual data in the first image comprises authenticating the secure tag using authentication information encoded in the contextual data.

19 . The secure tag system of claim 17 , wherein:

authenticating the secure tag using the tag features and the depiction of the contextual data in the first image comprises authenticating the secure tag using ratios of the tag features.

20 . The secure tag system of claim 17 , wherein:

the secure tag includes first tag features embodying a first selection of first tag features and second tag features embodying a second selection of second tag features, selection of the second tag features being enabled in accordance with the stylesheet by the selection of the first tag features.
