Abstract

Systems and methods for managing consolidated orders in a fulfillment center are described herein. The example systems can be configured to receive an exception when an item associated with a consolidated order cannot be collected. Subsequently, when the example systems determine that the item can be collected, the example systems can consider different factors in creating a job to collect the item. The different factors can include a shipping cutoff time, a size of the item, a capacity of a storage container used in collecting the item, and the size, location, and availability of other items to be collected for the consolidated order.

Claims (73)

2 . A system comprising:

machine-readable instructions; and

at least one processor circuit to be programmed by the machine-readable instructions to at least:

identify, based on one or more first signals transmitted by a first autonomous vehicle, an exception indicating a first item cannot be collected, the first item associated with a pick job assigned to the first autonomous vehicle, the pick job associated with a consolidation order;

in response to the identification of the exception, store, in a memory, a first indicator associating the first item with the exception;

determine, after storing the first indicator, that the first item can be collected and, in response thereto, store a second indicator associated with the first item in the memory, the second indicator identifying the first item as no longer associated with the exception;

determine, after storing the second indicator, that an estimated fulfillment time for the consolidation order equals or exceeds a threshold time associated with a shipping cutoff for the consolidation order and, in response thereto, create a heal job that directs collection of the first item for the consolidation order; and

control one of a plurality of autonomous vehicles based on one or more second signals transmitted to the one of the plurality of autonomous vehicles to cause the one of the plurality of autonomous vehicles to perform the heal job, the one or more second signals including location information for use by the one of the plurality of autonomous vehicles in navigating to the first item in an environment, the plurality of autonomous vehicles including the first autonomous vehicle.

3 . The system of claim 2 , wherein one or more of the at least one processor circuit is to determine the estimated fulfillment time for the consolidation order based on one or more of an activity level of workers; a number of incoming orders; or an average pick rate.

The system of claim 2 , wherein one or more of the at least one processor circuit is to determine the estimated fulfillment time for the consolidation order based on one or more of a number of further exceptions associated with the consolidation order or a number of further items still to be collected for the consolidation order.

5 . The system of claim 2 , wherein one or more of the at least one processor circuit is to:

determine that a second item associated with the consolidation order cannot be collected; and

create the heal job based on the estimated fulfillment time for the consolidation order being equal to or exceeding the threshold time associated with the shipping cutoff for the consolidation order and the determination that the second item cannot be collected.

6 . The system of claim 2 , wherein one or more of the at least one processor circuit is to:

determine that a second item associated with the consolidation order can be collected;

perform a comparison of a size of the first item and a size of the second item relative to a storage capacity threshold of the one of the plurality of autonomous vehicles;

determine, based on the comparison, the size of the first item and the size of the second item fail to satisfy the storage capacity threshold; and

create the heal job based on the estimated fulfillment time for the consolidation order being equal to or exceeding the threshold time associated with the shipping cutoff for the consolidation order and not based on the storage capacity threshold.

7 . The system of claim 2 , wherein the consolidation order is a first consolidation order, the exception is a first exception, the heal job is a first heal job, and one or more of the at least one processor circuit is to:

store, in the memory, a third indicator for a second item associated with a second consolidation order, the second item previously associated with a second exception indicating the second item could not be collected, the third indicator identifying the second item as no longer associated with the second exception;

determine, after storing the third indicator, whether an estimated fulfillment time for the second consolidation order equals or exceeds a threshold time associated with a shipping cutoff for the second consolidation order;

when the estimated fulfillment time for the second consolidation order equals or exceeds the threshold time associated with the shipping cutoff for the second consolidation order, create a second heal job at a first time; and

when the estimated fulfillment time for the second consolidation order does not equal or exceed the threshold time associated with the shipping cutoff for the second consolidation order, refrain from creating the second heal job at a second time after the first time.

8 . The system of claim 7 , wherein one or more of the at least one processor circuit is to:

determine a size of the second item relative to a storage capacity threshold of one or more of the autonomous vehicles;

create the heal job when the size of the second item fails to satisfy the storage capacity threshold and the estimated fulfillment time for the second consolidation order equals or exceeds the threshold time associated with the shipping cutoff for the second consolidation order; and

refrain from creating the heal job when the size of the second item fails to satisfy the storage capacity threshold and the estimated fulfillment time for the second consolidation order does not equal or exceed the threshold time associated with the shipping cutoff for the second consolidation order.

9 . A method comprising:

identifying, based on one or more first signals transmitted by a first autonomous vehicle, an exception indicating a first item cannot be collected, the first item associated with a pick job assigned to the first autonomous vehicle, the pick job associated with a consolidation order;

in response to the identification of the exception, storing, in a memory, a first indicator associating the first item with the exception;

determining, after storing the first indicator and by at least one processor circuit programmed by at least one instruction, that the first item can be collected and, in response thereto, store a second indicator associated with the first item in the memory, the second indicator identifying the first item as no longer associated with the exception;

determining, after storing the second indicator and by one or more of the at least one processor circuit, that an estimated fulfillment time for the consolidation order equals or exceeds a threshold time associated with a shipping cutoff for the consolidation order and, in response thereto, create a heal job that directs collection of the first item for the consolidation order; and

controlling one of a plurality of autonomous vehicles based on one or more second signals transmitted to the one of the plurality of autonomous vehicles to cause the one of the plurality of autonomous vehicles to perform the heal job, the one or more second signals including location information for use by the one of the plurality of autonomous vehicles in navigating to the first item in an environment, the plurality of autonomous vehicles including the first autonomous vehicle.

10 . The method of claim 9 , further including determining the estimated fulfillment time for the consolidation order based on one or more of an activity level of workers; a number of incoming orders; or an average pick rate.

11 . The method of claim 9 , further including determining the estimated fulfillment time for the consolidation order based on one or more of a number of further exceptions associated with the consolidation order or a number of further items still to be collected for the consolidation order.

12 . The method of claim 9 , further including:

determining that a second item associated with the consolidation order cannot be collected; and

creating the heal job based on the estimated fulfillment time for the consolidation order being equal to or exceeding the threshold time associated with the shipping cutoff for the consolidation order and the determination that the second item cannot be collected.

13 . The method of claim 9 , wherein the consolidation order is a first consolidation order, the exception is a first exception, the heal job is a first heal job, and further including:

storing, in the memory, a third indicator for a second item associated with a second consolidation order, the second item previously associated with a second exception indicating the second item could not be collected, the third indicator identifying the second item as no longer associated with the second exception;

determining, after storing the third indicator, whether an estimated fulfillment time for the second consolidation order equals or exceeds a threshold time associated with a shipping cutoff for the second consolidation order;

when the estimated fulfillment time for the second consolidation order equals or exceeds the threshold time associated with the shipping cutoff for the second consolidation order, creating a second heal job at a first time; and

when the estimated fulfillment time for the second consolidation order does not equal or exceed the threshold time associated with the shipping cutoff for the second consolidation order, refraining from creating the second heal job at a second time after the first time.

14 . The method of claim 13 , further including:

determining a size of the second item relative to a storage capacity threshold of one or more of the autonomous vehicles;

creating the heal job when the size of the second item fails to satisfy the storage capacity threshold and the estimated fulfillment time for the second consolidation order equals or exceeds the threshold time associated with the shipping cutoff for the second consolidation order; and

refraining from creating the heal job when the size of the second item fails to satisfy the storage capacity threshold and the estimated fulfillment time for the second consolidation order does not equal or exceed the threshold time associated with the shipping cutoff for the second consolidation order.

15 . At least one non-transitory machine-readable medium comprising machine-readable instructions to cause at least one processor circuit to at least:

identify, based on one or more first signals transmitted by a first autonomous vehicle, an exception indicating a first item cannot be collected, the first item associated with a pick job assigned to the first autonomous vehicle, the pick job associated with a consolidation order;

in response to the identification of the exception, store, in a memory, a first indicator associating the first item with the exception;

determine, after storing the first indicator, that the first item can be collected and, in response thereto, store a second indicator associated with the first item in the memory, the second indicator identifying the first item as no longer associated with the exception;

determine, after storing the second indicator, that an estimated fulfillment time for the consolidation order equals or exceeds a threshold time associated with a shipping cutoff for the consolidation order and, in response thereto, create a heal job that directs collection of the first item for the consolidation order; and

control one of a plurality of autonomous vehicles based on one or more second signals transmitted to the one of the plurality of autonomous vehicles to cause the one of the plurality of autonomous vehicles to perform the heal job, the one or more second signals including location information for use by the one of the plurality of autonomous vehicles in navigating to the first item in an environment, the plurality of autonomous vehicles including the first autonomous vehicle.

The at least one non-transitory machine-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the machine-readable instructions are to cause one or more of the at least one processor circuit to determine the estimated fulfillment time for the consolidation order based on one or more of an activity level of workers; a number of incoming orders; or an average pick rate.

The at least one non-transitory machine-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the machine-readable instructions are to cause one or more of the at least one processor circuit to determine the estimated fulfillment time for the consolidation order based on one or more of a number of further exceptions associated with the consolidation order or a number of further items still to be collected for the consolidation order.

18 . The at least one non-transitory machine-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the machine-readable instructions are to cause one or more of the at least one processor circuit to:

determine that a second item associated with the consolidation order cannot be collected; and

create the heal job based on the estimated fulfillment time for the consolidation order being equal to or exceeding the threshold time associated with the shipping cutoff for the consolidation order and the determination that the second item cannot be collected.

19 . The at least one non-transitory machine-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the machine-readable instructions are to cause one or more of the at least one processor circuit to:

determine that a second item associated with the consolidation order can be collected;

perform a comparison of a size of the first item and a size of the second item relative to a storage capacity threshold of the one of the plurality of autonomous vehicles;

determine, based on the comparison, the size of the first item and the size of the second item fail to satisfy the storage capacity threshold; and

create the heal job based on the estimated fulfillment time for the consolidation order being equal to or exceeding the threshold time associated with the shipping cutoff for the consolidation order and not based on the storage capacity threshold.

The at least one non-transitory machine-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the consolidation order is a first consolidation order, the exception is a first exception, the heal job is a first heal job, and the machine-readable instructions are to cause one or more of the at least one processor circuit to:

store, in the memory, a third indicator for a second item associated with a second consolidation order, the second item previously associated with a second exception indicating the second item could not be collected, the third indicator identifying the second item as no longer associated with the second exception;

determine, after storing the third indicator, whether an estimated fulfillment time for the second consolidation order equals or exceeds a threshold time associated with a shipping cutoff for the second consolidation order;

when the estimated fulfillment time for the second consolidation order equals or exceeds the threshold time associated with the shipping cutoff for the second consolidation order, create a second heal job at a first time; and

when the estimated fulfillment time for the second consolidation order does not equal or exceed the threshold time associated with the shipping cutoff for the second consolidation order, refrain from creating the second heal job at a second time after the first time.

21 . The at least one non-transitory machine-readable medium of claim 20 , wherein the machine-readable instructions are to cause one or more of the at least one processor circuit to:

determine a size of the second item relative to a storage capacity threshold of one or more of the autonomous vehicles;

create the heal job when the size of the second item fails to satisfy the storage capacity threshold and the estimated fulfillment time for the second consolidation order equals or exceeds the threshold time associated with the shipping cutoff for the second consolidation order; and

refrain from creating the heal job when the size of the second item fails to satisfy the storage capacity threshold and the estimated fulfillment time for the second consolidation order does not equal or exceed the threshold time associated with the shipping cutoff for the second consolidation order.
