Abstract

Filter media including nonwoven fiber webs comprising nanofibers, and related methods, are generally described.

Claims (35)

1 . A filter media, comprising:

a nonwoven fiber web comprising nanofibers;

wherein the filter media has a gamma of greater than or equal to 20 and

(a) an efficiency metric of greater than or equal to 0.04 and less than or equal to 4.5 and an air permeability (CFM) to mean flow pore size (micron) ratio of greater than or equal to 13; or

(b) an efficiency metric of greater than 4.5 and less than or equal to 8 and an air permeability (CFM) to mean flow pore size (micron) ratio of greater than or equal to 18.

2 . A filter media, comprising:

a nonwoven fiber web comprising nanofibers;

wherein the filter media has:

(a) an efficiency metric of greater than or equal to 0.04 and less than or equal to 4.5 and an air permeability (CFM) to mean flow pore size (micron) ratio of greater than or equal to 13; or

(b) an efficiency metric of greater than 4.5 and less than or equal to 8 and an air permeability (CFM) to mean flow pore size (micron) ratio of greater than or equal to 18.

3 . The filter media of claim 1 , wherein the filter media has an efficiency metric of greater than or equal to 0.04 and less than or equal to 4.5 and an air permeability (CFM) to mean flow pore size (micron) ratio of greater than or equal to 13.

4 . The filter media of claim 1 , wherein the filter media has an efficiency metric of greater than 4.5 and less than or equal to 8 and an air permeability (CFM) to mean flow pore size (micron) ratio of greater than or equal to 18.

5 . The filter media of claim 1 , wherein the nanofibers have an average fiber diameter of less than or equal to 1 micron.

6 . The filter media of claim 1 , wherein the nanofibers comprise polyamide, polyester, polyurethane, polyurea, acrylic, polymers comprising a side chain comprising a carbonyl functional group, poly(ether sulfone), polyacrylics, polystyrene, polycarbonates, polyvinyl chloride, polysulfone, poly(amic acid), fluorinated polymers, polyols, polyethers, poly(vinyl pyrrolidone), poly(allylamine), butyl rubber, polyethylene, polymers comprising a silane functional group, polymers comprising a thiol functional group, polymers comprising a methylol functional group, and/or combinations thereof.

7 . The filter media of claim 1 , wherein the nonwoven fiber web has a tensile strength of greater than or equal to 15 gf/gsm.

8 . The filter media of claim 1 , wherein the nanofibers are electrospun fibers.

9 . The filter media of claim 1 , wherein the nonwoven fiber web comprises greater than or equal to 2 sublayers.

10 . The filter media of claim 1 , wherein the filter media has an air permeability of greater than or equal to 0.2 CFM and less than or equal to 1,000 CFM.

11 . (canceled)
