Abstract

Claims (46)

1 . A method, comprising:

obtaining a data retention configuration associated with a tenant of a managed relational database service, the data retention configuration indicating one or more parameters defining data to be copied from a relational database to a non-relational database;

processing a job corresponding to first data, the job including the one or more parameters;

copying the first data, identified from the relational database based on the processed job, to the non-relational database;

obtaining a query received via a user interface, the query being received in a relational database language, the query being associated with a plurality of data sources;

running the query, received in the relational database language, to perform multiple parallel scans across the plurality of data sources including the non-relational database;

joining results of the multiple scans on the non-relational database; and

providing the joined results via the user interface.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the managed relational database service is configurable to back up databases on behalf of a plurality of organizations implementing the managed relational database service.

3 . The method of claim 2 , further comprising:

automatically storing backup data associated with a first one of the organizations for a retention period specified by an authorized user affiliated with the first organization.

4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the non-relational database is stored in a columnar format.

5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of data sources are stored in relational, non-relational, object, and custom data sources.

6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the one or more parameters include a user-specified retention period.

7 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

causing recovery of the first data to a state of the first data at a user-specified point in time.

8 . A database system implementing a managed relational database service using a server computing device, the database system configurable to cause:

obtaining a data retention configuration associated with a tenant of the managed relational database service, the data retention configuration indicating one or more parameters defining data to be copied from a relational database to a non-relational database;

processing a job corresponding to first data, the job including the one or more parameters;

copying the first data, identified from the relational database based on the processed job, to the non-relational database;

obtaining a query received via a user interface, the query being received in a relational database language, the query being associated with a plurality of data sources;

running the query, received in the relational database language, to perform multiple parallel scans across the plurality of data sources including the non-relational database;

joining results of the multiple scans on the non-relational database; and

providing the joined results via the user interface.

9 . The database system of claim 8 , wherein the managed relational database service is configurable to back up databases on behalf of a plurality of organizations implementing the managed relational database service.

10 . The database system of claim 9 , the database system further configurable to cause:

automatically storing backup data associated with a first one of the organizations for a retention period specified by an authorized user affiliated with the first organization.

11 . The database system of claim 8 , wherein the non-relational database is stored in a columnar format.

12 . The database system of claim 8 , wherein the plurality of data sources are stored in relational, non-relational, object, and custom data sources.

13 . The database system of claim 8 , wherein the one or more parameters include a user-specified retention period.

14 . The database system of claim 8 , the database system further configurable to cause:

causing recovery of the first data to a state of the first data at a user-specified point in time.

15 . A computer program product comprising computer-readable program code capable of being executed by one or more processors when retrieved from a non-transitory computer-readable medium, the program code comprising computer-readable instructions configurable to cause:

obtaining a data retention configuration associated with a tenant of a managed relational database service, the data retention configuration indicating one or more parameters defining data to be copied from a relational database to a non-relational database;

processing a job corresponding to first data, the job including the one or more parameters;

copying the first data, identified from the relational database based on the processed job, to the non-relational database;

obtaining a query received via a user interface, the query being received in a relational database language, the query being associated with a plurality of data sources;

running the query, received in the relational database language, to perform multiple parallel scans across the plurality of data sources including the non-relational database;

joining results of the multiple scans on the non-relational database; and

providing the joined results via the user interface.

16 . The computer program product of claim 15 , wherein the managed relational database service is configurable to back up databases on behalf of a plurality of organizations implementing the managed relational database service.

17 . The computer program product of claim 16 , the instructions further configurable to cause:

automatically storing backup data associated with a first one of the organizations for a retention period specified by an authorized user affiliated with the first organization.

18 . The computer program product of claim 15 , wherein the non-relational database is stored in a columnar format.

19 . The computer program product of claim 15 , wherein the plurality of data sources are stored in relational, non-relational, object, and custom data sources.

20 . The computer program product of claim 15 , wherein the one or more parameters include a user-specified retention period.
