Abstract

Systems and methods for implementing one or more game features across devices associated with a synchronous multimedia stream are disclosed. One method may include: establishing, on the server, a virtual media streaming session; connecting two or more user profiles of a media streaming platform to the virtual media streaming session; providing, in the virtual media streaming session, an article of multimedia content, wherein the article of multimedia content is simultaneously viewable on user devices associated with each of the two or more user profiles; determining, using a processor associated with the server, whether one or more interactive game features associated with the article of multimedia content are activated; and implementing, responsive to determining that the one or more interactive game features are activated, aspects associated with the one or more interactive game features in the virtual media streaming session.

Claims (47)

1 . A method for transmitting interactive game features to multiple devices associated with a synchronous multimedia stream using a server in network communication with at least one database, the method comprising operations including:

establishing, on the server, a virtual media streaming session;

connecting, using a processor associated with the server, two or more user profiles of a media streaming platform to the virtual media streaming session;

initiating streaming, using the processor and in the virtual media streaming session, of an article of multimedia content, wherein the article of multimedia content is simultaneously viewable on user devices associated with each of the two or more user profiles;

detecting, using the processor, selection of an interactive game on the media streaming platform; and

implementing, in the virtual media streaming session, rules associated with the interactive game.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the implementing the rules comprises enabling game features associated with the interactive game on each of the two or more user profiles connected through the virtual media streaming session.

3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein aspects of the interactive game are dependent on content occurring in the article of multimedia content.

4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the detecting selection of the interactive game comprises identifying that a majority of the two or more user profiles voted for the interactive game in a poll.

5 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

detecting selection of another interactive game; and

modifying the rules implemented in the virtual media streaming session to correspond with the another interactive game.

6 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising requesting, as part of the interactive game, input from at least a subset of the two or more user profiles.

7 . The method of claim 6 , wherein a type of the input is based on the rules associated with the interactive game.

8 . A system for transmitting interactive game features to multiple devices associated with a synchronous multimedia stream, the system comprising:

a processor;

at least one database;

a server in network communication with the at least one database and the processor, the server storing instructions that are executable by the processor to:

establish a virtual media streaming session;

connect two or more user profiles of a media streaming platform to the virtual media streaming session;

initiate streaming, in the virtual media streaming session, of an article of multimedia content, wherein the article of multimedia content is simultaneously viewable on user devices associated with each of the two or more user profiles;

detect selection of an interactive game on the media streaming platform; and

implement rules associated with the interactive game in the virtual media streaming session.

9 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the instructions executable by the processor to implement are further configured to cause the processor to:

enable game features associated with the interactive game on each of the two or more user profiles connected through the virtual media streaming session.

10 . The system of claim 8 , wherein aspects of the interactive game are dependent on content occurring in the article of multimedia content.

11 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the instructions executable by the processor to detect selection of the interactive game are further configured to cause the processor to:

identify that a majority of the two or more user profiles voted for the interactive game in a poll.

12 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the instructions are further executable to cause the processor to:

detect selection of another interactive game; and

modify the rules implemented in the virtual media streaming session to correspond with the another interactive game.

13 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the instructions are further executable to cause the processor to:

request, as part of the interactive game, input from at least a subset of the two or more user profiles.

14 . The system of claim 13 , wherein a type of the input is based on the rules associated with the interactive game.

15 . A non-transitory computer-readable medium storing computer-executable instructions which, when executed by a server in network communication with at least one database, cause the server to perform operations comprising:

establishing a virtual media streaming session;

connecting two or more user profiles of a media streaming platform to the virtual media streaming session;

initiating streaming, in the virtual media streaming session, of an article of multimedia content, wherein the article of multimedia content is simultaneously viewable on user devices associated with each of the two or more user profiles;

detecting, using the processor, selection of an interactive game on the media streaming platform; and

implementing, in the virtual media streaming session, rules associated with the interactive game.

16 . The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the implementing the rules comprises enabling game features associated with the interactive game on each of the two or more user profiles connected through the virtual media streaming session.

17 . The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 15 , wherein aspects of the interactive game are dependent on content occurring in the article of multimedia content.

18 . The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the detecting selection of the interactive game comprises identifying that a majority of the two or more user profiles voted for the interactive game in a poll.

19 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 15 , further comprising:

detecting selection of another interactive game; and

modifying the rules implemented in the virtual media streaming session to correspond with the another interactive game.

20 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 15 , further comprising requesting, as part of the interactive game, input from at least a subset of the two or more user profiles, wherein a type of the input is based on the rules associated with the interactive game.
