Abstract

The techniques described within this disclosure are directed to an in-line adaptor or coupling device of a PON that detects incoming optical signals (e.g., of different services) being delivered over the PON on different bands of wavelengths supported by an incoming optical fiber of the PON, converts (if necessary) any optical signals to suitable wavelength signals, and transmits the converted optical signals to a last mile termination unit via suitable output interfaces. At least a portion of the incoming optical signals are not converted by the in-line adaptor, and instead are passed-through the in-line adaptor to the last mile termination unit via an optical output interface. The in-line adaptor further includes one or more wireless interfaces via which information pertaining to the received optical signals and/or other information related to the in-line adaptor is transmitted to one or more recipient devices.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the coupling device is disposed at the location serviced by the PON.

3. The method of claim 1 , further comprising determining, by the coupling device, respective identities of the first wavelength band and the second wavelength band.

4. The method of claim 3 , wherein the determining of the respective identities of the first wavelength band and the second wavelength band is based on an identity of the last mile termination unit.

5. The method of claim 4 , further comprising obtaining, by the coupling device, an indication of the identity of the last mile termination unit upon the coupling device communicatively connecting with the last mile termination unit.

6. The method of claim 3 , wherein the determining of the respective identities of the first wavelength band and the second wavelength band is based on a received instruction.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the providing of the first set of optical signals to the last mile termination unit via the first wavelength band includes passing the first set of optical signals through the coupling device.

8. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

detecting, by the coupling device and at the first optical interface, a presence of a third set of optical signals that is received at the coupling device via a third wavelength band over the optical fiber;
