Abstract

A system includes a memory device, and a processing device, operatively coupled to the memory device, to perform operations including obtaining, from a host system, a power safety configuration for a partition, wherein the power safety configuration for the partition configures the memory device to implement power safe writing for the partition by operating in a first write mode utilizing single level cell (SLC) caching, or to implement non-power safe writing for the partition by operating in a second write mode without utilizing SLC caching, and configuring the memory device to operate in the first write mode or the second write mode based on the power safety configuration.

Claims (42)

1 . A system comprising:

a memory device; and

a processing device, operatively coupled with the memory device, to perform operations comprising:

obtaining, from a host system, a power safety configuration for a partition, wherein the power safety configuration for the partition configures the memory device to implement power safe writing for the partition by operating in a first write mode utilizing single level cell (SLC) caching, or to implement non-power safe writing for the partition by operating in a second write mode without utilizing SLC caching; and

configuring the memory device to operate in the first write mode or the second write mode based on the power safety configuration.

2 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the power safety configuration for the partition is located within a partition data structure, and wherein the partition data structure maintains a starting address of the partition, an address length of the partition, and a configured power safety of the partition.

3 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the partition is one of: a boot partition, a system partition, a cache partition, an application partition, an application data partition, or a media partition.

4 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the partition is determined by the host system in accordance with power safety capability information.

5 . The system of claim 4 , wherein the power safety capability information comprises device descriptor data comprising a field indicative of whether the memory device supports a power safety designation for the partition.

6 . The system of claim 4 , wherein power safety capability information comprises partition descriptor data comprising a field indicative of whether to implement power safe writing for the partition.

7 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the operations further comprise:

finalizing a set of power safety configurations; and

causing a media access operation to be performed using the set of power safety configurations.

8 . A system comprising:

a memory device; and

a processing device, operatively coupled with the memory device, to perform operations comprising:

identifying a power safety configuration for a partition associated with a logical address space;

determining, based on the power safety configuration, whether to utilize single level cell (SLC) caching for power safe writing; and

in response to determining to utilize SLC caching based on the power safety configuration, configuring, based on the power safety configuration, the memory device to utilize SLC caching.

9 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the power safety configuration for the partition is located within a partition data structure, and wherein the partition data structure maintains a starting address of the partition, an address length of the partition, and a configured power safety of the partition.

10 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the partition is one of: a boot partition, a system partition, a cache partition, an application partition, an application data partition, or a media partition.

11 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the partition is determined by a host system in accordance with power safety capability information.

12 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the power safety capability information comprises device descriptor data comprising a field indicative of whether the memory device supports a power safety designation for the partition.

13 . The system of claim 11 , wherein power safety capability information comprises partition descriptor data comprising a field indicative of whether to implement power safe writing for the partition.

14 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the operations further comprise:

finalizing a set of power safety configurations; and

causing a media access operation to be performed using the set of power safety configurations.

15 . A system comprising:

a memory device; and

a processing device, operatively coupled with the memory device, to perform operations comprising:

identifying a power safety configuration for a partition associated with a logical address space;

determining, based on the power safety configuration, whether to implement non-power safe writing for the partition; and

in response to determining to implement non-power safe writing for the partition based on the power safety configuration, configuring the memory device not to utilize single level cell (SLC) caching.

16 . The system of claim 15 , wherein the power safety configuration for the partition is located within a partition data structure, and wherein the partition data structure maintains a starting address of the partition, an address length of the partition, and a configured power safety of the partition.

17 . The system of claim 15 , wherein the partition is one of: a boot partition, a system partition, a cache partition, an application partition, an application data partition, or a media partition.

18 . The system of claim 15 , wherein the partition is determined by a host system in accordance with power safety capability information.

19 . The system of claim 18 , wherein the power safety capability information comprises at least one of:

device descriptor data comprising a field indicative of whether the memory device supports power safety designations for partitions; or

partition descriptor data comprising a field indicative of whether to implement power safe writing for the partition.

20 . The system of claim 15 , wherein the operations further comprise:

finalizing a set of power safety configurations; and

causing a media access operation to be performed using the set of power safety configurations.
