Abstract

A drink station is provided with an alkaline filter cartridge in fluid communication with an ambient temperature water line provide alkaline water, and with a chilled water mixed with the alkaline water at a spigot to provide chilled alkaline water. A hot water heating element is located below the spigot so hot water flows upward for dispensing from the spigot, with a vent line between the heating element and spigot helping hot water to flow from the spigot to the heating element. A refrigeration system and a carbonation system is also provided. The refrigeration system uses the ice-bank technology. A submersible agitator pump improves heat exchanged between ice-bank and water by forced convection. The agitator pump operating based on the temperature of the drinking water. A figure eight evaporator coil can provide two cylindrical ice banks and two chilled water coils to increase the chilled water capacity.

Claims (37)

1 . A beverage dispensing apparatus, comprising:

a reservoir configured to store a heat-exchange fluid;

a chiller coil arranged within the reservoir having a plurality of coils extending around a longitudinal axis, wherein the chiller coil is configured to circulate a beverage, and wherein the chiller coil is in communication with a water source and a dispensing outlet;

an evaporator coil arranged within the reservoir and configured to form an ice bank within the reservoir;

an agitator pump arranged within the reservoir, wherein the agitator pump comprises:

an inlet port arranged along the longitudinal axis for inflow of the heat exchange fluid into the agitator pump; and

a plurality of outlet ports arranged at an angle relative to the longitudinal axis, wherein the plurality of outlet ports are configured to direct an outflow of the heat exchange fluid toward the evaporator coil; and

a controller in communication with the agitator pump and configured to selectively activate the agitator pump to circulate the heat exchange fluid within the reservoir.

2 . The beverage dispensing apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the agitator pump is at least partially surrounded by the chiller coil.

3 . The beverage dispensing apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the evaporator coil at least partially surrounds the chiller coil.

4 . The beverage dispensing apparatus of claim 1 , further comprising a plurality of outlet tubes, wherein an outlet tube of the plurality of outlet tubes is connected to each of the plurality of outlet ports.

5 . The beverage dispensing apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of outlet ports are arranged radially around the agitator pump.

6 . The beverage dispensing apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of outlet ports are arranged perpendicularly relative to the longitudinal axis.

7 . The beverage dispensing apparatus of claim 1 , further comprising a temperature sensor configured to measure a temperature of the beverage within the chiller coil, wherein the controller is in communication with the temperature sensor.

8 . The beverage dispensing apparatus of claim 7 , wherein the controller is configured to activate the agitator pump when the temperature measured by the temperature sensor is above an upper temperature threshold.

9 . The beverage dispensing apparatus of claim 7 , wherein the controller is configured to deactivate the agitator pump when the temperature measured by the temperature sensor is below a lower temperature threshold.

10 . A beverage dispensing apparatus, comprising:

a reservoir configured to store a heat-exchange fluid;

a chiller coil arranged within the reservoir having a plurality of coils extending around a longitudinal axis, wherein the chiller coil is configured to circulate a beverage, and wherein the chiller coil is in communication with a water source and a dispensing outlet;

an evaporator coil arranged within the reservoir and configured to form an ice bank within the reservoir;

a first agitator pump arranged within the reservoir, wherein the first agitator pump comprises:

a first inlet port arranged along the longitudinal axis for inflow of the heat exchange fluid into the first agitator pump, and

a plurality of first outlet ports arranged at an angle relative to the longitudinal axis, wherein the plurality of first outlet ports are configured to direct an outflow of the heat exchange fluid toward the evaporator coil; and

a second agitator pump arranged within the reservoir, wherein the second agitator pump comprises:

a second inlet port arranged along the longitudinal axis for inflow of the heat exchange fluid into the second agitator pump, and

a plurality of second outlet ports arranged at an angle relative to the longitudinal axis, wherein the plurality of second outlet ports are configured to direct an outflow of the heat exchange fluid toward the evaporator coil; and

a controller in communication with the first and second agitator pumps and configured to selectively activate the first and second agitator pumps to circulate the heat exchange fluid within the reservoir.

11 . The beverage dispensing apparatus of claim 10 , wherein the second inlet port of the second agitator pump faces toward the first inlet port of the first agitator pump.

12 . The beverage dispensing apparatus of claim 10 , wherein the first agitator pump is arranged at a lower end of the reservoir and the second agitator pump is arranged at an upper end of the reservoir.

13 . The beverage dispensing apparatus of claim 10 , wherein the first and second agitator pumps are at least partially surrounded by the chiller coil.

14 . The beverage dispensing apparatus of claim 10 , wherein the evaporator coil at least partially surrounds the chiller coil.

15 . The beverage dispensing apparatus of claim 10 , further comprising a plurality of outlet tubes, wherein an outlet tube of the plurality of outlet tubes is connected to an outlet port of the plurality of first outlet ports or of the plurality of second outlet ports.

16 . The beverage dispensing apparatus of claim 10 , wherein the plurality of first outlet ports are arranged radially around the first agitator pump, and wherein the plurality of second outlet ports are arranged radially around the second agitator pump.

17 . The beverage dispensing apparatus of claim 10 , wherein the plurality of first outlet ports are arranged perpendicularly relative to the longitudinal axis, and wherein the plurality of second outlet ports are arranged perpendicularly relative to the longitudinal axis.

18 . The beverage dispensing apparatus of claim 10 , further comprising a temperature sensor configured to measure a temperature of the beverage within the chiller coil, wherein the controller is in communication with the temperature sensor.

19 . The beverage dispensing apparatus of claim 18 , wherein the controller is configured to activate one or more of the first agitator pump or the second agitator pump based on the measured temperature.

20 . The beverage dispensing apparatus of claim 18 , wherein the controller is configured to activate the first and second agitator pumps when the measured temperature is above an upper temperature threshold, the controller is configured to deactivate the first and second agitator pumps when the measured temperature is below a lower temperature threshold, and wherein the controller is configured to activate one of the first agitator pump or the second agitator pump when the measured temperature is between the lower temperature threshold and the upper temperature threshold.
