Abstract

According to an aspect of an embodiment, operations may include obtaining a respective target temperature for each respective segment of multiple segments of a Highly Non-Linear optical Fiber (HNLF). Each respective target temperature may be based on a respective Zero-Dispersion Wavelength (ZDW) distribution of its corresponding segment and may be based on a target ZDW of the HNLF. The operations may also include adjusting a respective temperature of each respective segment that may be based on the respective target temperature of each respective segment such that each respective segment has a respective ZDW that is within a threshold of the target ZDW.

Claims (18)

1 . A system comprising:

a Highly Non-Linear optical Fiber (HNLF) comprising a plurality of segments;

a plurality of temperature controllers in which each respective temperature controller of the plurality of temperature controllers is coupled to a corresponding segment of the plurality of segments; and

one or more control systems configured to perform operations, the operations including tuning a respective temperature of each respective temperature controller based on a respective target temperature of its corresponding segment, the respective target temperatures of the respective segments being based on a target ZDW of the HNLF and respective Zero-Dispersion Wavelength (ZDW) distributions of the respective segments and

2 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the segments of the plurality of segments are spliced together to form the HNLF.

3 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the segments of the plurality of segments are selected based on their respective ZDW distributions being able to align within a target amount of each other within a target thermal tuning range.

4 . The system of claim 1 , wherein a number of segments included in the plurality of segments is based on a target Stimulated Brillouin Scattering (SBS) threshold of the HNLF.

5 . The system of claim 4 , wherein the target threshold SBS is based on a target power level of an optical signal.

6 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the target ZDW is based on a wavelength of a laser pump of an optical amplifier.

7 . A non-transitory computer-readable medium having computer-readable instructions stored thereon that are executable by a processor to perform a method comprising:

obtaining a respective target temperature for each respective segment of a plurality of segments of a Highly Non-Linear optical Fiber (HNLF), each respective target temperature being based on a respective Zero-Dispersion Wavelength (ZDW) distribution of its corresponding segment and being based on a target ZDW of the HNLF; and

adjusting a respective temperature of each respective segment based on the respective target temperature of each respective segment such that each respective segment has a respective ZDW that is within a threshold of the target ZDW.

8 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 7 , wherein the segments of the plurality of segments are spliced together to form the HNLF.

9 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 7 , wherein the segments of the plurality of segments are selected based on their respective ZDW distributions being able to align within a target amount of each other within a target thermal tuning range.

10 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 7 , wherein adjusting the respective temperature of each respective segment includes controlling a respective temperature controller attached to a corresponding respective segment.

11 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 7 , wherein a number of segments included in the plurality of segments is based on a target Stimulated Brillouin Scattering (SBS) threshold of the HNLF.

12 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 11 , wherein the target threshold SBS is based on a target power level of an optical signal.

13 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 7 , wherein the target ZDW is based on a wavelength of a laser pump of an optical amplifier.
