Abstract

Herein disclosed is applying a prescribed waveform protocol to a patient using one or more output electrodes in electrical communication with the patient, while capturing energy received from the patient using one or more input electrodes in electrical communication with the patient; determining an estimate of an electrically evoked compound action potential (ECAP) signal in the energy received from the patient; subtracting the estimate of the ECAP signal from the energy received from the patient to obtain an estimate of the prescribed waveform protocol being applied to the patient; comparing the estimate of the prescribed waveform protocol being applied to the patient with a selection of known waveform protocols to determine if the prescribed waveform protocol matches any of the selection; and in response to determining the prescribed waveform protocol being applied to the patient matches any of the selection, sending an indication a known waveform protocol is in use.

determining an estimate of an electrically evoked compound action potential (ECAP) signal in the energy received from the patient ( 115 ), using the SCS IPG ( 106 ) processor ( 200 );

subtracting the estimate of the ECAP signal from the energy received from the patient ( 115 ) to obtain an estimate of the signal of the prescribed waveform protocol ( 133 ) being applied to the patient ( 115 ), using the SCS IPG ( 106 ) processor ( 200 );

comparing the estimated signal of the of the prescribed waveform protocol ( 133 ) being applied to the patient ( 115 ) with a selection of known waveform protocols ( 133 ) from a library of individually available known waveforms ( 121 ) to determine if the prescribed waveform protocol ( 133 ) being applied to the patient ( 115 ) matches any of the selection of known waveform protocols ( 133 ), using the SCS IPG ( 106 ) processor ( 200 ); and

in response to determining the prescribed waveform protocol ( 133 ) being applied to the patient ( 115 ) matches any of the selection of known waveform protocols ( 133 ), sending to an authorization server ( 127 ) an indication that a known waveform protocol ( 133 ) is in use, using the SCS IPG ( 106 ) processor ( 200 ).

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the method further comprises creating an artifact model of the ECAP signal based on the estimate of the ECAP signal, using the SCS IPG ( 106 ) processor ( 200 ).

3 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the subtracting further comprises subtracting the estimate of the ECAP signal from the energy received from the patient ( 115 ), using the artifact model.

8 . The method of claim 6 , wherein determining the impulse response further comprises correlating the training signal as received through the communication channel with the training signal as before transmitting the training signal through the communication channel, using the SCS IPG ( 106 ) processor ( 200 ).

9 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the comparing further comprises comparing based on Fourier transforms, using the SCS IPG ( 106 ) processor ( 200 ).

10 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the comparing further comprises determining a correlation of the estimate of the prescribed waveform protocol ( 133 ) with a known waveform protocol ( 133 ) power spectrum, using the SCS IPG ( 106 ) processor ( 200 ).

11 . The method of claim 10 , wherein the method further comprises configuring a minimum correlation coefficient threshold value that must be reached to determine the estimate of the prescribed waveform protocol ( 133 ) matches any of the selection of known waveform protocols ( 133 ), using the SCS IPG ( 106 ) processor ( 200 ).
