THERAPEUTIC, FITNESS, AND SPORTS ENHANCEMENT DEVICE
A therapeutic, fitness, and sports enhancement device which includes a cylindrically shaped body having a predetermined density and predetermined diameter, the body including a plurality of projections of a predetermined shape. One or more of the predetermined density and the predetermined diameter in combination with the predetermined shape of the projections optimize mobilization of soft tissue structures of the human body.

20 . A method of mobilizing a muscle below skin of a human body, comprising:
moving a soft-tissue mobilization device over the human body while in contact with the human body, the soft-tissue mobilization device having a diameter in a range of about 3 inches to about 15 inches, the soft-tissue mobilization device including (i) a core made of a closed cell foam, rubber, or plastic, and (ii) an overlay surrounding the core, and wherein the overlay includes projections configured to extend into soft tissue and is made of a closed cell foam, rubber, or plastic; and
during the moving, applying pressure to the human body with the soft-tissue mobilization device such that the projections on the overlay extend into the muscle located below the skin.
21 . The method of claim 20 , wherein a density of the closed cell foam, rubber, or plastic of the overlay is in a range of about 2 lbs/ft 3 to about 12 lbs/ft 3 .
22 . The method of claim 20 , wherein the individual projections radially extend away from a generally cylindrical surface of the overlay by a distance in a range of about ⅛ inch to about 3 inches.
23 . The method of claim 20 , wherein the projections are located circumferentially around the soft-tissue mobilization device.
24 . The method of claim 20 , wherein a hollow opening extends through the core.
25 . The method of claim 20 , wherein the muscle is one of a group selected from quadriceps, glutes, rhomboids, hamstrings, piriformis, rotator cuff, upper trapezius, muscle in an inner thigh, muscle in a lumbar region, and muscle in a side of a neck of the human body.
26 . The method of claim 20 , wherein the moving includes rolling such that the projections sequentially extend into the muscle located below the skin.
27 . The method of claim 20 , wherein the closed cell foam, rubber, or plastic of the overlay is pliable.
28 . A method of breaking up collagenous fibers in a muscle within a human body, comprising:
moving a soft-tissue mobilization device over the human body while in contact with the human body, the soft-tissue mobilization device having a diameter in a range of about 3 inches to about 15 inches, the soft-tissue mobilization device including (i) a core made of a closed cell foam, rubber, or plastic, and (ii) an overlay surrounding the core, and wherein the overlay includes projections configured to extend into soft tissue and is made of a closed cell foam, rubber, or plastic; and
during the moving, extending the projections from the soft-tissue mobilization device into the muscle.
29 . The method of claim 28 , wherein a density of the closed cell foam, rubber, or plastic of the overlay is in a range of about 2 lbs/ft 3 to about 12 lbs/ft 3 .
30 . The method of claim 28 , wherein the individual projections radially extend away from a generally cylindrical surface of the overlay by a distance in a range of about ⅛ inch to about 3 inches.
31 . The method of claim 28 , wherein the projections are located circumferentially around the soft-tissue mobilization device.
32 . The method of claim 28 , wherein a hollow opening extends through the core.
33 . The method of claim 28 , wherein the muscle is one of a group selected from quadriceps, glutes, rhomboids, hamstrings, piriformis, rotator cuff, upper trapezius, muscle in an inner thigh, muscle in a lumbar region, and muscle in a side of a neck of the human body.
34 . The method of claim 28 , wherein the moving includes rolling such that the projections sequentially extend into the muscle.
35 . The method of claim 28 , wherein the closed cell foam, rubber, or plastic of the overlay is pliable.
36 . A method of relieving soreness of a muscle below skin of a human body, comprising:
rolling a generally cylindrical soft-tissue mobilization device over the human body, the soft-tissue mobilization device having a diameter in a range of about 3 inches to about 15 inches, the soft-tissue mobilization device including (i) a core made of a polymeric material, and (ii) an overlay surrounding the core and being made of a polymeric material, and wherein the overlay includes a plurality of individual projections configured to extend into soft tissue that are spaced apart from each other, the plurality of individual projections being arranged along circumferentially spaced lines to form an offset pattern to the individual projections; and
during the rolling, extending the plurality of individual projections from the soft-tissue mobilization device into the muscle located below the skin.
37 . The method of claim 36 , wherein the polymeric material of the overlay is pliable.
38 . The method of claim 36 , wherein a density of the polymeric material of the overlay is in a range of about 2 lbs/ft 3 to about 12 lbs/ft 3 .
