Abstract

A method of moving a prefabricated mobile structure, comprising: aligning a spreader configured to engage with corner fittings of a standard freight container to connect with respective attachment points on the prefabricated mobile structure; engaging attachment mechanisms of the spreader with the attachment points of the prefabricated mobile structure; using the spreader to lift the prefabricated mobile structure; and using the spreader to place the prefabricated mobile structure onto a vehicle. The prefabricated mobile structure comprises: a rectangular prism shaped body having a length that is shorter than that of a standard shipping container; and extension members that extend substantially beyond a front or rear face of the mobile structure, each comprising one of the attachment points, where the extension members extend far enough beyond the front or rear face of the prefabricated mobile structure to allow the attachment mechanisms of the spreader to connect with the attachment points.

Claims (70)

aligning a spreader configured to engage with corner fittings of a 20-foot freight container to connect with respective attachment points on the prefabricated mobile structure;

engaging attachment mechanisms of the spreader with the attachment points of the prefabricated mobile structure;

while the attachment mechanisms of the spreader are engaged with the attachment points of the prefabricated mobile structure, using the spreader to lift the prefabricated mobile structure;

after lifting the prefabricated mobile structure, using the spreader to load the prefabricated mobile structure onto a vehicle;

wherein the prefabricated mobile structure comprises:

a body portion that is substantially in the shape of a rectangular prism, the longest side of the body portion having a length that is shorter than that of a standard 20-foot shipping container; and

at least two extension members that extend substantially beyond a front or rear face of the prefabricated mobile structure, each of the at least two extension members comprising one of the attachment points of the prefabricated mobile structure, where the at least two extension members extend far enough beyond the front or rear face of the prefabricated mobile structure to allow the attachment mechanisms of the spreader to connect with the attachment points.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the at least two extension members comprise four extension members that respectively extend substantially beyond the front or rear face of the prefabricated mobile structure, each of the four extension members comprising one of the attachment points of the prefabricated mobile structure, where the four extension members extend far enough beyond the front or rear face of the prefabricated mobile structure to allow the attachment mechanisms of the spreader to connect with the attachment points.

3 . The method of claim 2 , wherein a first two of the extension members extend substantially beyond the front face of the prefabricated mobile structure and a second two of the extension members extend substantially beyond the rear face of the prefabricated mobile structure.

4 . The method of claim 3 , wherein:

the first two extension members are each disposed adjacent a respective top front corner of the prefabricated mobile structure; and

the second two extension members are each disposed adjacent a respective top rear corner of the prefabricated mobile structure.

5 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

using the vehicle to transport the prefabricated mobile structure to a particular location; and

at the particular location, removing the prefabricated mobile structure from the vehicle and placing the prefabricated mobile structure at the desired location.

6 . The method of claim 5 , further comprising:

after placing the prefabricated mobile structure at the desired location, connecting the prefabricated mobile structure to at least one of:

an electrical power source;

a communications line;

a conditioned air supply line; or

a water line.

7 . A method of moving a prefabricated mobile structure, comprising:

aligning a spreader configured to engage with corner fittings of a 20-foot freight container to connect with respective attachment points on the prefabricated mobile structure;

engaging attachment mechanisms of the spreader with the attachment points of the prefabricated mobile structure;

while the attachment mechanisms of the spreader are engaged with the attachment points of the prefabricated mobile structure, using the spreader to lift the prefabricated mobile structure;

after lifting the prefabricated mobile structure, using the spreader to place the prefabricated mobile structure onto a container roll-on/roll-off platform (CROP) sled;

securing the prefabricated mobile structure to the CROP sled; and

while the prefabricated mobile structure is secured to the CROP sled, transferring the CROP sled and prefabricated mobile structure onto a vehicle,

wherein the prefabricated mobile structure comprises:

a body portion that is substantially in the shape of a rectangular prism, the longest side of the body portion having a length that is shorter than that of a standard 20-foot shipping container; and

at least two extension members that extend substantially beyond a front or rear face of the prefabricated mobile structure, each of the at least two extension members comprising one of the attachment points of the prefabricated mobile structure, where the at least two extension members extend far enough beyond the front or rear face of the prefabricated mobile structure to allow the attachment mechanisms of the spreader to connect with the attachment points.

8 . The method of claim 7 , wherein the at least two extension members comprise four extension members that respectively extend substantially beyond the front or rear face of the prefabricated mobile structure, each of the four extension members comprising one of the attachment points of the prefabricated mobile structure, where the four extension members extend, respectively, far enough beyond the front or rear face of the prefabricated mobile structure to allow the attachment mechanisms of the spreader to connect with the attachment points.

9 . The method of claim 8 , wherein a first two of the extension members extend substantially beyond the front face of the prefabricated mobile structure and a second two of the extension members extend substantially beyond the rear face of the prefabricated mobile structure.

10 . The method of claim 9 , wherein:

the first two extension members are each disposed adjacent a respective top front corner of the prefabricated mobile structure; and

the second two extension members are each disposed adjacent a respective top rear corner of the prefabricated mobile structure.

11 . The method of claim 7 , further comprising:

using the vehicle to transport the prefabricated mobile structure to a particular location; and

at the particular location, removing the prefabricated mobile structure from the vehicle and placing the prefabricated mobile structure at the desired location.

12 . The method of claim 11 , further comprising:

after placing the prefabricated mobile structure at the desired location, connecting the prefabricated mobile structure to at least one of:

an electrical power source;

a communications line;

a conditioned air supply line; or

a water line.

13 . A method of moving a prefabricated mobile structure, comprising:

aligning a spreader configured to engage with corner fittings of a particular standard sized freight container to connect with respective attachment points on the prefabricated mobile structure;

engaging attachment mechanisms of the spreader with the attachment points of the prefabricated mobile structure;

while the attachment mechanisms of the spreader are engaged with the attachment points of the prefabricated mobile structure, using the spreader to lift the prefabricated mobile structure;
