Abstract

Aggregate washing systems are described including mechanisms for slurrying, washing and/or dewatering aggregate material.

Claims (42)

1 . A method of washing aggregate material, the method comprising:

receiving the material on a first vibrating screen deck;

depositing at least a first portion of the material from said first vibrating screen deck onto a second vibrating screen deck disposed lower than the first vibrating screen deck;

applying water to said first portion of the material with water while it passes across the second vibrating screen deck;

allowing a second portion of the first portion of the material to pass through said second vibrating screen deck;

pumping at least a fraction said second portion to a hydrocyclone;

by said hydrocyclone, separating said fraction of said second portion into an underflow fraction and an overflow fraction;

depositing said underflow fraction on said first vibrating screen deck; and

passing a product over said first vibrating screen deck.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein said product comprises at least a portion of said underflow fraction.

3 . The method of claim 2 , wherein said product comprises a saleable sand.

4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein said product comprises a saleable sand.

5 . The method of claim 4 , wherein said step of applying water comprises spraying water by a spray element.

6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein said step of applying water comprises spraying water by a spray element.

7 . The method of claim 6 , further comprising:

by adjusting a valve, modifying a magnitude of said underflow fraction relative to a magnitude of said overflow fraction.

8 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

by adjusting a valve, modifying a magnitude of said underflow fraction relative to a magnitude of said overflow fraction.

9 . The method of claim 8 , further comprising:

transferring said overflow fraction away from said hydrocyclone via an overflow conduit; and

allowing supplemental air flow into said overflow conduit.

10 . The method of claim 1 , wherein said first vibrating screen deck comprises a first screening media, and wherein said second vibrating screen deck comprises a second screening media.

11 . The method of claim 10 , wherein said first screening media is different from said second screening media.

12 . The method of claim 11 , wherein at least one of said first screen deck and said second screen deck is disposed at a non-zero angle relative to horizontal.

13 . The method of claim 1 , wherein at least one of said first screen deck and said second screen deck is disposed at a non-zero angle relative to horizontal.

14 . An aggregate washing system, comprising:

a mechanism comprising:

first and second sidewalls;

a first screen deck supported on said first and second sidewalls and extending therebetween, said first screen deck being disposed at a first height;

a second screen deck supported on said first and second sidewalls and extending therebetween, said first screen deck being disposed at a second height, said second height being lower than said first height;

a plurality of spray elements disposed at or below said second height, said plurality of spray elements being disposed directly above said second screen deck and configured to apply water to material on said second screen deck;

a sump disposed to receive undersize material from said first screen deck; and

a recirculation circuit, the recirculation circuit comprising:

a hydrocyclone having a feed inlet and an underflow outlet, said first screen deck being disposed to receive material from said underflow outlet; and

a pump in fluid communication with said sump and said feed inlet, said pump being configured to pump at least a portion of said undersize material from said sump to said feed inlet.

15 . The aggregate washing system of claim 14 , wherein said first screen deck comprises a first screening media, and wherein said second screen deck comprises a second screening media.

16 . The aggregate washing system of claim 15 , wherein said first screening media is different from said second screening media.

17 . The aggregate washing system of claim 14 , wherein said hydrocyclone further comprises an overflow outlet, the aggregate washing system further comprising:

a valve in fluid communication with said overflow outlet, said valve configured to modify a first fraction of material hydrocyclone via said overflow outlet relative to a second fraction of material exiting said hydrocyclone via said underflow outlet.

18 . The aggregate washing system of claim 16 , wherein said second screen deck is disposed at a non-zero angle relative to horizontal.

19 . The aggregate washing system of claim 16 , wherein said first screen deck is disposed at a non-zero angle relative to horizontal.

20 . The aggregate washing system of claim 19 , wherein said first screen deck has a discharge end, wherein at least a portion of said first screen deck is sloped upwards toward said discharge end.
