Abstract

A process and composition is described for the inclusion of polyether polyols in concentrations greater than 10% loading on the B-side formulation with a catalyst package less than 1% loading on the B-side formulation. In one specific example, the use of glycerin as a fluorine ion scavenger is utilized to improve performance of the polyurethane systems through a twelve-month shelf life.

Claims (30)

1 . A B-side component of a two component low pressure polyurethane foam, the B-side component consisting of:

a fluoride ion scavenger;

one or more polyols consisting of all polyether polyols and fluoride ion scavenger that is a polyol and no polyester polyols;

at least one surfactant;

at least one plasticizer;

at least one catalyst; and

an HFO propellant consisting of 1,3,3,3-tetrafluoropropene and no other HFO propellant other than 1,3,3,3-tetrafluoropropene,

wherein water is in an amount of less than 1% by weight of the B-side prior to inclusion of the HFO propellant at the B-side.

2 . The B-side component of claim 1 , wherein the one or more polyether polyols are approximately 35% or greater by weight of the B-side.

3 . The B-side component of claim 1 , wherein the one or more polyether polyols comprise at least 35% by weight of the B-side of at least one oxypropylated triol and at least one propylene oxide diol.

4 . The B-side component of claim 1 , wherein the fluoride ion scavenger comprises glycerin.

5 . The B-side component of claim 1 , wherein the at least one catalyst comprises:

an amine catalyst; and

a catalyst that includes an organotin catalyst.

6 . The B-side component of claim 1 , wherein a catalytic decay ratio (gel) is <1.5.

7 . The B-side component of claim 6 , wherein a catalytic decay ratio (tack-free) is <1.5.

8 . The B-side component of claim 7 , wherein the catalytic decay ratio (gel) is <1.5 through at least six months, and wherein the catalytic decay ratio (tack-free) is <1.5 through at least six months.

9 . The B-side component of claim 7 , wherein the catalytic decay ratio (gel) is <1.5 through at least twelve months, and wherein the catalytic decay ratio (tack-free) is <1.5 through at least twelve months.

10 . The B-side component of claim 1 , wherein the water in the amount of less than 1% by weight of the B-side prior to inclusion of the HFO propellant at the B-side is 0% water by weight of the B-side prior to inclusion of the HFO propellant at the B-side.

11 . A B-side component of a two component low pressure polyurethane foam, the B-side component consisting of:

a fluoride ion scavenger;

one or more polyols consisting of all polyether polyols and fluoride ion scavenger that is a polyol and no polyester polyols, wherein the one or more polyether polyols comprise at least one oxypropylated triol and at least one propylene oxide diol;

at least one surfactant;

at least one plasticizer;

at least one catalyst; and

an HFO propellant consisting of 1,3,3,3-tetrafluoropropene and no other HFO propellant other than 1,3,3,3-tetrafluoropropene,

wherein water is in an amount of less than 1% by weight of the B-side prior to inclusion of the HFO propellant at the B-side.

12 . The B-side component of claim 11 , wherein the one or more polyether polyols are approximately 35% or greater by weight of the B-side.

13 . The B-side component of claim 11 , wherein the water in the amount of less than 1% by weight of the B-side prior to inclusion of the HFO propellant at the B-side is 0% water by weight of the B-side prior to inclusion of the HFO propellant at the B-side.

14 . The B-side component of claim 11 , wherein the fluoride ion scavenger comprises glycerin.
