Abstract

The present invention relates to a modular ozone-based disinfection system and method for treating air using configurable components tailored to specific applications. The system includes a purification configuration with an air circulation subsystem and an electrolytic ozone generator supplied by a tank configuration, which may comprise a fixed tank or a replaceable water cartridge. The generated ozone is mixed with airflow to create an oxidizing environment and is subsequently passed across a titanium dioxide-coated surface to reduce ozone levels before discharge. Optional modules include a dehumidifier configuration for extracting ambient moisture and a source water configuration for continuous supply. A controller manages system functions, including ozone generation, purification modes, and safety protocols. The method supports flexible operation, enabling safe, effective disinfection in occupied or confined spaces. The modular design allows for scalable deployment across diverse environments, including healthcare, food service, and public facilities.

Claims (38)

1 . A system comprising:

a water supply;

an air circulation system which creates an airflow;

an electrolytic ozone generator that is connected to the water supply and the air circulation system;

the electrolytic ozone generator generates a gaseous ozone from the water which is then directed into the airflow; and

a gaseous ozone neutralization surface configured to reduce residual ozone in the airflow.

2 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the gaseous ozone neutralization surface comprises a titanium dioxide-coated surface positioned downstream in the airflow path, the titanium dioxide-coated surface being configured to reduce the ozone concentration in the airflow to a threshold suitable for compliance with human exposure limits.

3 . The system of claim 2 , wherein the air circulation system includes one or more fans positioned to draw the airflow across the titanium dioxide-coated surface.

4 . The system of claim 1 , further comprising a controller configured to initiate ozone generation and regulate fan speed based on a selected disinfection profile.

5 . The system of claim 1 , further comprising a dehumidifier configuration and a tank configuration, wherein the dehumidifier configuration is operatively connected to the tank configuration and configured to fill the tank configuration with water extracted from ambient air.

6 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the water supply comprises a replaceable water cartridge comprising a sealed reservoir and a fluid connection port.

7 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the inlet through which the gaseous ozone is introduced into the airflow path is positioned upstream of the titanium dioxide-coated surface.

8 . The system of claim 1 , further comprising an enclosure housing the air circulation system, the electrolytic ozone generator, and the tank configuration in a stacked modular arrangement, wherein the stacked arrangement is configured to allow water to gravity feed through the system to reduce the need for pumping components.

9 . The system of claim 1 , further comprising a controller, wherein the controller is further configured to store ozone generation cycle data for remote access or compliance reporting.

10 . A method of using the system of claim 6 , the method comprising the steps of:

inserting the replaceable water cartridge into the system;

generating gaseous ozone from the water using the electrolytic ozone generator;

directing airflow through the purification configuration to mix with the gaseous ozone; and

discharging treated airflow from the system after the ozone concentration has been reduced to a level compliant with applicable human exposure safety limits.

11 . A system comprising:

a water supply;

an air circulation system which creates an airflow;

an electrolytic ozone generator that is connected to the water supply and the air circulation system;

the electrolytic ozone generator generates gaseous ozone from the water which is then directed into the airflow; and

a titanium dioxide-coated surface configured to reduce residual ozone in the airflow.

12 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the water supply comprises a tank configuration and a source water configuration, wherein the source water configuration is operatively connected to the tank configuration and is configured to fill the tank configuration with water.

13 . The system of claim 12 , further comprising a controller, wherein the controller is configured to select between water supplied from the source water configuration and water stored in the tank configuration.

14 . The system of claim 11 , further comprising a purification configuration, the purification configuration is configured to operate continuously when a source water connection is detected.

15 . The system of claim 12 , wherein the tank configuration includes a fill-level sensor to control intake from the source water configuration.

16 . A method of using the system of claim 1 , the method comprising the steps of:

generating gaseous ozone from the water using the electrolytic ozone generator; and

mixing air with the gaseous ozone and then passing the mixture across the gaseous ozone neutralization surface.

17 . The method of claim 16 , wherein the gaseous ozone neutralization surface comprises a titanium dioxide-coated surface.

18 . The method of claim 16 , further comprising the step of:

using a controller to regulate a fan speed and initiate the ozone generation cycle.

19 . The method of claim 16 , wherein the water is supplied from a replaceable water cartridge comprising a sealed reservoir.

20 . The method of claim 16 , further comprising the step of:

discharging the treated airflow into an occupied environment after the ozone concentration has been reduced to a level compliant with human exposure safety limits.
