Abstract

Eyewear configured to control an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). In one example, a user interacts with the eyewear to generate control signals that are transmitted to the UAV to control the flight path, speed, orientation, and to communicate other instructions to the UAV. An input of the eyewear is controlled by the user to control the UAV, such as a touchpad, a microphone, a head movement tracker and a camera. The user is also able to configure and customize the eyewear to send specific control signals to the UAV as a function of user actions. This includes specific head movements and head gestures of the user as a method of controlling the UAV. This allows the user to control the UAV in a more natural and convenient way.

Claims (32)

1 . Eyewear, comprising:

a frame;

a see-through display supported by the frame and configured to generate images;

an input coupled to the frame and configured to generate an input signal, wherein the input comprises a head movement tracker responsive to a head movement of a user;

memory storing data indicative of predetermined head gestures, wherein the stored data is indicative of flight path instructions; and

a processor configured to send a first control signal as a function of the stored data in the memory, wherein the processor is configured to determine a plurality of different types of head gestures of the user as a function of the stored data in the memory, the first control signal corresponding to the determined plurality of different types of head gestures, the first control signal configured to control a flight path of an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV);

wherein the first control signal is configured to instruct the UAV to perform a single act as a function of a combination of the plurality of different types of head gestures as a custom control, wherein the different head movements is the user shaking their head back and forth.

2 . The eyewear as specified in claim 1 , wherein the combination of the plurality of different types of head gestures comprises the user turning their head opposite directions.

3 . The eyewear as specified in claim 2 , wherein the combination of the plurality of different types of head gestures comprises the user turning their head back and forth.

4 . The eyewear as specified in claim 2 , wherein the combination of the plurality of different types of head gestures comprises the user turning their up and down.

5 . The eyewear as specified in claim 1 , further comprising a touchpad coupled to the frame and configured to send a second control signal to the processor as a function of the user touching the touchpad to control the flight path of the UAV.

6 . The eyewear as specified in claim 5 , wherein the touching comprises swiping the touchpad.

7 . The eyewear as specified in claim 1 , further comprising a microphone coupled to the frame, wherein the processor is configured to send the first control signal as a function of voice instructions received from the user via the microphone.

8 . A method of eyewear controlling an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) using eyewear comprising a frame, a see-through display supported by the frame and configured to generate images, an input coupled to the frame and configured to generate an input signal, wherein the input comprises a head movement tracker responsive to a head movement of a user, memory storing data indicative of predetermined head gestures, wherein the stored data is indicative of flight path instructions, and a processor configured to send a first control signal as a function of the stored data in the memory, wherein the processor is configured to determine a plurality of different types of head gestures of the user as a function of the stored data in the memory, the first control signal corresponding to the determined plurality of different types of head gestures, the first control signal configured to control a flight path of the UAV, wherein the first control signal is configured to instruct the UAV to perform a single act as a function of a combination of the plurality of different types of head gestures as a custom control, comprising:

the processor receiving the input signal from the head movement tracker;

the processor determining the plurality of the different types of head gestures of the user as a function of the stored data in the memory; and

the processor sending the first control signal as a function of the determined plurality of the different types of head gestures to control the flight path of the UAV, wherein the first control signal instructs the UAV to perform a single act as a function of a combination of the plurality of the different types of head gestures, wherein the different head movements is the user shaking their head back and forth.

9 . The method as specified in claim 8 , wherein the combination of the plurality of different types of head gestures comprises the user turning their head opposite directions.

10 . The method as specified in claim 9 , wherein the combination of the plurality of different types of head gestures comprises the user turning their head back and forth.

11 . The method as specified in claim 9 , wherein the combination of the plurality of different types of head gestures comprises the user turning their head up and down.

12 . The method as specified in claim 8 , wherein the eyewear further comprises a touchpad coupled to the frame and sending a second control signal to the processor as a function of the user touching the touchpad to control the flight path of the UAV.

13 . The method as specified in claim 12 , wherein the touching comprises swiping the touchpad.

14 . The method as specified in claim 8 , wherein the eyewear further comprises a microphone coupled to the frame, wherein the processor sends the first control signal as a function of voice instructions received from the user via the microphone to control the flight path of the UAV.

15 . A non-transitory computer-readable medium storing program code which, when executed, is operative to cause a processor of eyewear comprising a frame, a see-through display supported by the frame and configured to generate images, an input coupled to the frame and configured to generate an input signal, wherein the input comprises a head movement tracker responsive to a head movement of a user, memory storing data indicative of predetermined head gestures, wherein the stored data is indicative of flight path instructions, and a processor configured to send a first control signal as a function of the stored data in the memory, wherein the processor is configured to determine a plurality of different types of head gestures of the user as a function of the stored data in the memory, the first control signal corresponding to the determined plurality of different types of head gestures, the first control signal configured to control a flight path of an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), wherein the first control signal is configured to instruct the UAV to perform a single act as a function of a combination of the plurality of different types of head gestures as a custom control, to perform the steps of:

the processor receiving the input signal from the head movement tracker;

the processor determining the plurality of the different types of head gestures of the user as a function of the stored data in the memory; and

the processor sending the first control signal as a function of the determined plurality of the different types of head gestures to control the flight path of the UAV, wherein the first control signal instructs the UAV to perform a single act as a function of a combination of the plurality of the different types of head gestures, wherein the different head movements is the user shaking their head back and forth.

16 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium as specified in claim 15 , wherein the combination of the plurality of different types of head gestures comprises the user turning their head opposite directions.

17 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium as specified in claim 16 , wherein the combination of the plurality of different types of head gestures comprises the user turning their head back and forth.

18 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium as specified in claim 16 , wherein the combination of the plurality of different types of head gestures comprises the user turning their head up and down.

19 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium as specified in claim 15 , wherein the eyewear further comprises a touchpad coupled to the frame and sending a second control signal to the processor as a function of the user touching the touchpad to control the flight path of the UAV.

20 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium as specified in claim 15 , wherein the eyewear further comprises a microphone coupled to the frame, wherein the processor sends the first control signal as a function of voice instructions received from the user via the microphone to control the flight path of the UAV.
