Abstract

The exemplary embodiments herein provide a dual fuel system with a recreational vehicle electric battery for use with a power generation assembly. The system comprises a combustion engine with a stator assembly for generating power and further having a gasoline pump, an LP shutoff valve, and a carburetor valve. The system further comprises a recreational vehicle battery, a DC rectifier in electrical communication with the stator assembly, a fuel selection switch, and a digital fuel valve control module (DFVCM). Multiple fuels are safely controlled while interchanging power between a battery and the DC rectifier.

Claims (66)

1 . A method for operating a dual fuel power generation system comprising the steps of:

accepting an input from a fuel selection switch indicating LP or gasoline as the selected fuel;

sending power from an RV battery to run a gasoline pump if gasoline is the selected fuel;

sending power from an RV battery to open a carburetor valve if gasoline is the selected fuel;

starting an engine which turns a stator assembly to produce an AC power output;

sending the AC power to a DC rectifier;

determining if a ready signal has been received from a DC rectifier;

stopping power from the RV battery to the gasoline pump and from the RV battery to the carburetor valve if the ready signal is not received; and

sending power from the DC rectifier to the gasoline pump and from the DC rectifier to the carburetor valve if the ready signal is received.

2 . The method of claim 1 further comprising:

stopping power from the RV battery to the gasoline pump and from the RV battery to the carburetor valve if an on/off button is pushed.

3 . The method of claim 1 further comprising:

receiving power from the DC rectifier at a digital fuel valve control module (DFVCM) if the ready signal is received.

4 . The method of claim 1 further comprising:

receiving power from the RV battery at a digital fuel valve control module (DFVCM) if the ready signal is not received.

5 . The method of claim 1 further comprising:

sending power from an RV battery to run a gasoline pump if a primer button is pushed.

6 . The method of claim 1 further comprising:

sending power from the RV battery to open a LP shutoff valve if LP is the selected fuel.

7 . The method of claim 6 further comprising:

stopping power from the RV battery to the LP shutoff valve if the ready signal is not received; and

sending power from the DC rectifier to the LP shutoff valve if the ready signal is received.

8 . The method of claim 1 further comprising:

stopping power from the RV battery to the gasoline pump and from the RV battery to the carburetor valve if an RPM for the engine is outside of a MIN and MAX.

9 . The method of claim 6 further comprising:

stopping power from the RV battery to the LP shutoff valve if an RPM for the engine is outside of a MIN and MAX.

10 . A method for operating a dual fuel power generation system comprising the steps of:

accepting an input from a fuel selection switch indicating LP or gasoline as the selected fuel;

sending power from an RV battery to a gasoline pump and from an RV battery to a carburetor valve if gasoline is the selected fuel;

sending power from an RV battery to an LP shutoff valve if LP is the selected fuel is the selected fuel;

starting an engine which turns a stator assembly to produce an AC power output;

sending the AC power to a DC rectifier;

determining if a ready signal has been received from a DC rectifier;

stopping power from the RV battery if the ready signal is not received; and

sending power from the DC rectifier to

the gasoline pump and the carburetor valve if the ready signal is received and gasoline is the selected fuel,

the LP shutoff valve if the ready signal is received and LP is the selected fuel.

11 . The method of claim 10 further comprising:

sending power from an RV battery to run a gasoline pump if a primer button is pushed and gasoline is the selected fuel.

12 . The method of claim 10 further comprising:

receiving power from the DC rectifier at a digital fuel valve control module (DFVCM) if the ready signal is received.

13 . The method of claim 12 further comprising:

receiving power from the RV battery at a digital fuel valve control module (DFVCM) if the ready signal is not received.

14 . The method of claim 12 wherein:

the step of stopping power from the RV battery if the ready signal is not received is performed by the DFVCM.

15 . The method of claim 12 wherein:

the step of stopping power from the RV battery if the ready signal is not received is performed by the DFVCM.

16 . The method of claim 12 further comprising:

stopping power from the RV battery to the gasoline pump and from the RV battery to the carburetor valve if an RPM for the engine is outside of a MIN and MAX.

17 . The method of claim 12 further comprising:

stopping power from the RV battery to the LP shutoff valve if an RPM for the engine is outside of a MIN and MAX.

18 . A method for operating a power generation system comprising the steps of:

sending power from an RV battery to run a gasoline pump;

sending power from an RV battery to open a carburetor valve;

starting an engine which turns a stator assembly to produce an AC power output;

sending the AC power to a DC rectifier;

determining if a ready signal has been received from a DC rectifier;

stopping power from the RV battery if the ready signal is not received;

sending power from the DC rectifier to the gasoline pump and from the DC rectifier to the carburetor valve if the ready signal is received;

stopping power from the RV battery if an RPM for the engine is outside of a MIN and MAX; and

stopping power from the DC rectifier if an RPM for the engine is outside of a MIN and MAX.

19 . The method of claim 18 further comprising:

stopping power from the RV battery or from the DC rectifier if an on/off button is pushed.

20 . The method of claim 18 further comprising:

receiving power from the DC rectifier at a digital fuel valve control module (DFVCM) if the ready signal is received; and

receiving power from the RV battery at a digital fuel valve control module (DFVCM) if the ready signal is not received.
