Abstract

Systems and methods for qualifying external network facilities for a service location of a passive optical network (PON) of a PON service provider are presented. An exemplary method may include obtaining an indication of a service location of the PON and an indication of a set of required optical services at the service location; determining a group of candidate external network provider facilities for the service location of the PON based on geospatial coordinates of the service location and respective geospatial coordinates of the candidate external network provider facilities included in the group; selecting, from among the group of candidate external network provider facilities, an external network provider facility for providing the set of required optical services to the service location; and causing one or more optical services to be delivered to the service location via the selected external network provider facility.

Claims (54)

1 . A method for providing services to service locations of a passive optical network (PON) of a PON service provider, the method comprising:

qualifying, by one or more processors, a plurality of candidate network provider facilities to provide a set of required services to the service location, the plurality of candidate network provider facilities including a first facility provided by the PON service provider and a second facility excluded from the PON and provided by an external network provider;

routing, by the one or more processors, the set of required services to the service location via the first facility provided by the PON service provider; and

upon at least one of: a failure to deliver the set of required services to the service location via the first facility or a detection of a change in operation status at the first facility, routing, by the one or more processors, the set of required services to the service location via the second facility provided by the external network provider.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the change in the operation status at the first facility includes a degradation in services.

3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the change in the operation status at the first facility includes a failure at the first facility.

4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the change in the operation status at the first facility corresponds to maintenance or diagnostics at the first facility.

5 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising detecting, by the one or more processors, the at least one of the failure to deliver the set of required services to the service location via the first facility or the change in the operation status at the first facility.

6 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising configuring the PON to route the set of required services to the service location via the second facility.

7 . The method of claim 6 , wherein the configuring is responsive to a selection of the second facility from among the qualified plurality of network provider facilities.

8 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

upon at least one of a failure to deliver the set of required services to the service location via the second facility or a detection of a change in operation status at the second facility, re-routing, by the one or more processors, the set of required services to the service location via the first facility or via a third facility of the qualified plurality of network provider facilities.

9 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

upon a return of the first facility to normal operations, routing, by the one or more processors, the set of required services to the service location via the first facility.

10 . The method of claim 1 , wherein:

the set of required services is a first set of required services corresponding to the service location; and

the method further comprises routing, by the one or more processors, a second set of required services to the service location via the first facility while routing the first set of required services to the service location via the second facility.

11 . The method of claim 1 ,

further comprising storing an indication of an association between the service location and the qualified plurality of network provider facilities; and

wherein the routing is based on the stored indication of the association.

12 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the service location is a first service location, the plurality of candidate network provider facilities is a first plurality of candidate network provider facilities, the set of required services is a first set of required services, the stored indication is a first stored indication, and the method further comprises:

qualifying a second plurality of candidate network provider facilities to provide a second set of required services to a second service location;

storing a second indication of an association of the second service location and the qualified second plurality of network facilities; and

routing the second set of required services to the second service location based on the second stored association.

13 . The method of claim 12 , further comprising:

upon a detection of at least one of: a failure to deliver the second set of required services to the second service location or a change in operation status of one or more facilities utilized in the routing of the second set of required services to the second service location, re-routing the second set of required services to the second service location based on the stored second indication.

14 . A system for providing services to service locations of a passive optical network (PON) of a PON service provider, the system comprising:

one or more processors; and

one or more memories storing a set of computer-executable instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the system to:

qualify a plurality of candidate network provider facilities to provide a set of required services to the service location, the plurality of candidate network provider facilities including a first facility provided by the PON service provider and a second facility excluded from the PON and provided by an external network provider;

route the set of required services to the service location via the first facility provided by the PON service provider; and

upon at least one of: a failure to deliver the set of required services to the service location via the first facility or a detection of a change in operation status at the first facility, route the set of required services to the service location via the second facility provided by the external network provider.

15 . The system of claim 14 , wherein the change in the operation status at the first facility includes a degradation in services.

16 . The system of claim 14 , wherein the change in the operation status at the first facility includes a failure.

17 . The system of claim 14 , wherein the change in the operation status at the first facility corresponds to maintenance or diagnostics at the first facility.

18 . The system of claim 14 , wherein the set of computer-executable instructions are further executable to cause the system to detect the at least one of the failure to deliver the set of required services to the service location via the first facility or the change in the operation status at the first facility.

19 . The system of claim 14 , wherein the set of computer-executable instructions are further executable to cause the system to configure the PON to route the set of required services to the service location via the second facility.

20 . The system of claim 19 , wherein the configuring is responsive to a selection of the second facility from among the qualified plurality of network provider facilities.

21 . The system of claim 14 , wherein the set of computer-executable instructions are further executable to cause the system to:

upon at least one of a failure to deliver the set of required services to the service location via the second facility or a detection of a change in operation status at the second facility, re-route the set of required services to the service location via the first facility or via a third facility of the qualified plurality of network provider facilities.

22 . The system of claim 14 , wherein the set of computer-executable instructions are further executable to cause the system to:

upon a return of the first facility to normal operations, route the set of required services to the service location via the first facility.

23 . The system of claim 14 , wherein:

the set of required services is a first set of required services corresponding to the service location; and

the set of computer-executable instructions are further executable to cause the system to route a second set of required services to the service location via the first facility while routing the first set of required services to the service location via the second facility.

24 . The system of claim 14 , wherein:

the set of computer-executable instructions are further executable to cause the system to store an indication of an association between the service location and the qualified plurality of network provider facilities; and

the routing of the set of required services is based on the stored indication of the association.

25 . The system of claim 24 , wherein the service location is a first service location, the plurality of candidate network provider facilities is a first plurality of candidate network provider facilities, the set of required services is a first set of required services, the stored indication is a first stored indication, and the set of computer-executable instructions are further executable to cause the system to:

qualify a second plurality of candidate network provider facilities to provide a second set of required services to a second service location;

store a second indication of an association of the second service location and the qualified second plurality of network facilities; and

route the second set of required services to the second service location based on the second stored association.

26 . The system of claim 25 , wherein the set of computer-executable instructions are further executable to cause the system to:

upon a detection of at least one of: a failure to deliver the second set of required services to the second service location or a change in operation status of one or more facilities utilized in the routing of the second set of required services to the second service location, re-route the second set of required services to the second service location based on the stored second indication.
