Abstract

Computer-implemented methods and computer systems are disclosed herein as implemented by a controller operatively coupled to a network of electric vehicles. The methods and systems include the controller (i) receiving a notification that an electric vehicle is stranded without sufficient power to operate; (ii) receiving information regarding the stranded electric vehicle; (iii) detecting one or more other electric vehicles in a vicinity of the stranded electric vehicle; (iv) receiving information regarding the detected one or more other electric vehicles; and/or (v) determining, based upon the received information, which of the detected one or more other electric vehicles to send a power source request. Alternatively, the notification may indicate that an electric vehicle has a low state of charge (SOC), or is otherwise has a battery in need of being recharged to facilitate the electric vehicle traveling to a destination.

Claims (41)

1 . An electric vehicle computer system for dynamically determining a searching area for electric vehicles to charge a stranded electric vehicle based upon a location of the stranded electric vehicle, the electric vehicle computer system comprising:

at least one memory with instructions stored thereon; and

at least one processor in communication with the at least one memory, wherein the instructions, when executed, cause the at least one processor to:

receive vehicle data associated with the stranded electric vehicle, the vehicle data comprising the location of the stranded electric vehicle;

determine an area to search for the electric vehicles to charge the stranded electric vehicle, the area being adjustable based upon a concentration of electric vehicles associated with the location of the stranded electric vehicle;

identify one or more electric vehicles in the area, the one or more electric vehicles being different from the stranded electric vehicle; and

communicate a power source request to at least one of (i) the one or more electric vehicles, or (ii) one or more computing devices associated with the one or more electric vehicles, the power source request requesting an electric power charge for the stranded electric vehicle.

2 . The electric vehicle computer system of claim 1 , wherein the concentration of electric vehicles associated with the location is determined based at least in part upon a population of a city associated with the location.

3 . The electric vehicle computer system of claim 1 , wherein the instructions further cause the at least one processor to receive a denial of the power source request from the at least one of the one or more electric vehicles or the one or more computing devices associated with the one or more electric vehicles.

4 . The electric vehicle computer system of claim 3 , wherein the instructions further cause the at least one processor to:

determine a different electric vehicle in the area; and

cause another power source request to provide the stranded electric vehicle with power to be transmitted to at least one of the different electric vehicle or another computing device associated with the different electric vehicle.

5 . The electric vehicle computer system of claim 1 , wherein the instructions further cause the at least one processor to receive an acceptance of the power source request from the at least one of the one or more electric vehicles or the one or more computing devices associated with the one or more electric vehicles.

6 . The electric vehicle computer system of claim 1 , wherein the instructions further cause the at least one processor to predict a state of charge remaining in the one or more electric vehicles after charging the stranded electric vehicle.

7 . The electric vehicle computer system of claim 1 , wherein the instructions further cause the at least one processor to determine that a predicted route of the one or more electric vehicles is in a direction of the location of the stranded electric vehicle.

8 . At least one non-transitory computer-readable storage medium with instructions stored thereon for dynamically determining a searching area for electric vehicles to charge a stranded electric vehicle based upon a location of the stranded electric vehicle, wherein the instructions, when executed by at least one processor, cause the at least one processor to:

receive vehicle data associated with the stranded electric vehicle, the vehicle data comprising the location of the stranded electric vehicle;

determine an area to search for the electric vehicles to charge the stranded electric vehicle, the area being adjustable based upon a concentration of electric vehicles associated with the location of the stranded electric vehicle;

identify one or more electric vehicles in the area, the one or more electric vehicles being different from the stranded electric vehicle; and

communicate a power source request to at least one of (i) the one or more electric vehicles, or (ii) one or more computing devices associated with the one or more electric vehicles, the power source request requesting an electric power charge for the stranded electric vehicle.

9 . The at least one non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 8 , wherein the concentration of electric vehicles associated with the location is determined based at least in part upon a population of a city associated with the location.

10 . The at least one non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 8 , wherein the instructions further cause the at least one processor to receive a denial of the power source request from the at least one of the one or more electric vehicles or the one or more computing devices associated with the one or more electric vehicles.

11 . The at least one non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 10 , wherein the instructions further cause the at least one processor to:

determine a different electric vehicle in the area; and

cause another power source request to provide the stranded electric vehicle with power to be transmitted to at least one of the different electric vehicle or another computing device associated with the different electric vehicle.

12 . The at least one non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 8 , wherein the instructions further cause the at least one processor to receive an acceptance of the power source request from the at least one of the one or more electric vehicles or the one or more computing devices associated with the one or more electric vehicles.

13 . The at least one non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 8 , wherein the instructions further cause the at least one processor to predict a state of charge remaining in the one or more electric vehicles after charging the stranded electric vehicle.

14 . The at least one non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 8 , wherein the instructions further cause the at least one processor to determine that a predicted route of the one or more electric vehicles is in a direction of the location of the stranded electric vehicle.

15 . A computer-implemented method for dynamically determining a searching area for electric vehicles to charge a stranded electric vehicle based upon a location of the stranded electric vehicle, the computer-implemented method implemented by at least one processor in communication with at least one memory, the computer-implemented method comprising:

receiving vehicle data associated with the stranded electric vehicle, the vehicle data comprising the location of the stranded electric vehicle;

determining an area to search for the electric vehicles to charge the stranded electric vehicle, the area being adjustable based upon a concentration of electric vehicles associated with the location of the stranded electric vehicle;

identifying one or more electric vehicles in the area, the one or more electric vehicles being different from the stranded electric vehicle; and

communicating a power source request to at least one of (i) the one or more electric vehicles, or (ii) one or more computing devices associated with the one or more electric vehicles, the power source request requesting an electric power charge for the stranded electric vehicle.

16 . The computer-implemented method of claim 15 , wherein the concentration of electric vehicles associated with the location is determined based at least in part upon a population of a city associated with the location.

17 . The computer-implemented method of claim 15 , further comprising:

receiving a denial of the power source request from the at least one of the one or more electric vehicles or the one or more computing devices associated with the one or more electric vehicles;

determining a different electric vehicle in the area; and

causing another power source request to provide the stranded electric vehicle with power to be transmitted to at least one of the different electric vehicle or another computing device associated with the different electric vehicle.

18 . The computer-implemented method of claim 15 , further comprising receiving an acceptance of the power source request from the at least one of the one or more electric vehicles or the one or more computing devices associated with the one or more electric vehicles.

19 . The computer-implemented method of claim 15 , further comprising predicting a state of charge remaining in the one or more electric vehicles after charging the stranded electric vehicle.

20 . The computer-implemented method of claim 15 , further comprising determining that a predicted route of the one or more electric vehicles is in a direction of the location of the stranded electric vehicle.
