Abstract

Systems, apparatuses, and methods are described for wireless communications. A base station and a wireless device may communicate capability information associated with the wireless device. The capability information may include information indicating support for an Ethernet type session or header parameter compression. An Ethernet type session may be instantiated based on the capability information.

Claims (74)

1 . A method comprising:

receiving, by a core network entity from a wireless device, an indication of whether the wireless device supports an Ethernet session type; and

causing, by the core network entity, a base station to send, to the wireless device, one or more configuration parameters for the Ethernet session type.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the causing comprises:

sending, by the core network entity to the base station, a message configured to cause the base station to send, to the wireless device, the one or more configuration parameters for the Ethernet session type.

3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the indication comprises a binary parameter that is set to one of:

a first value based on the wireless device supporting the Ethernet session type; or

a second value based on the wireless device not supporting the Ethernet session type.

4 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

receiving, by the core network entity from the wireless device, a parameter indicating at least one of:

a transmission bit rate,

multiple Ethernet addresses for the wireless device, or

an Ethernet standard version.

5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the core network entity comprises an access and mobility management function device.

6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the one or more configuration parameters comprise an Ethernet header compression parameter.

7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the receiving the indication comprises:

receiving, by the core network entity from the wireless device, a request message comprising:

a wireless device capability parameter comprising the indication of whether the wireless device supports the Ethernet session type, and

a session type parameter indicating a type of a requested session.

8 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the receiving the indication comprises:

receiving, by the core network entity from the wireless device via the base station, the indication of whether the wireless device supports the Ethernet session type.

9 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the Ethernet session type is an Ethernet packet data unit (PDU) session type.

10 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

causing, by the core network entity, the base station to send, to the wireless device, an indication of addition of a bearer for a session of the Ethernet session type.

11 . A core network entity comprising:

one or more processors; and

memory storing instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, configure the core network entity to:

receive, from a wireless device, an indication of whether the wireless device supports an Ethernet session type; and

cause a base station to send, to the wireless device, one or more configuration parameters for the Ethernet session type.

12 . The core network entity of claim 11 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the one or more processors, configure the core network entity to cause the base station to send the one or more configuration parameters by:

sending, to the base station, a message configured to cause the base station to send, to the wireless device, the one or more configuration parameters for the Ethernet session type.

13 . The core network entity of claim 11 , wherein the indication comprises a binary parameter that is set to one of:

a first value based on the wireless device supporting the Ethernet session type; or

a second value based on the wireless device not supporting the Ethernet session type.

14 . The core network entity of claim 11 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the one or more processors, further configure the core network entity to:

receive, from the wireless device, a parameter indicating at least one of:

a transmission bit rate,

multiple Ethernet addresses for the wireless device, or

an Ethernet standard version.

15 . The core network entity of claim 11 , wherein the core network entity comprises an access and mobility management function device.

16 . The core network entity of claim 11 , wherein the one or more configuration parameters comprise an Ethernet header compression parameter.

17 . The core network entity of claim 11 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the one or more processors, configure the core network entity to receive the indication by:

receiving, from the wireless device, a request message comprising:

a wireless device capability parameter comprising the indication of whether the wireless device supports the Ethernet session type, and

a session type parameter indicating a type of a requested session.

18 . The core network entity of claim 11 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the one or more processors, configure the core network entity to receive the indication by:

receiving, from the wireless device via the base station, the indication of whether the wireless device supports the Ethernet session type.

19 . The core network entity of claim 11 , wherein the Ethernet session type is an Ethernet packet data unit (PDU) session type.

20 . The core network entity of claim 11 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the one or more processors, further configure the core network entity to:

cause the base station to send, to the wireless device, an indication of addition of a bearer for a session of the Ethernet session type.

21 . A non-transitory computer-readable medium storing instructions that, when executed by one or more processors, cause a core network entity to:

receive, from a wireless device, an indication of whether the wireless device supports an Ethernet session type; and

cause, by the core network entity, a base station to send, to the wireless device, one or more configuration parameters for the Ethernet session type.

22 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 21 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the core network entity to cause the base station to send the one or more configuration parameters by:

sending, to the base station, a message configured to cause the base station to send, to the wireless device, the one or more configuration parameters for the Ethernet session type.

23 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 21 , wherein the indication comprises a binary parameter that is set to one of:

a first value based on the wireless device supporting the Ethernet session type; or

a second value based on the wireless device not supporting the Ethernet session type.

24 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 21 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the one or more processors, further configure the core network entity to:
