Abstract

A covert sports communication system has a transmitter configured to wirelessly transmit coded audio track selection signals. The system includes a receiver that may be worn within headgear. The receiver includes stored audio tracks and is configured to receive coded audio track selection signals from the transmitter, decode the audio track selection signals, and play at least one stored audio track in accordance with the decoded audio track selection signals. The audio tracks may include audio instructions to a participant of a sporting event.

Claims (48)

1 .- 12 . (canceled)

13 . A baseball instruction communication system, comprising:

a tablet transmitter including:

a transmitter unit configured to transmit wireless signals;

a first microcontroller coupled to the transmitter unit;

a display coupled to the first microcontroller;

a plurality of user actuatable input elements coupled to the first microcontroller; and

a memory storing instructions executable by the first microcontroller;

wherein the first microcontroller is configured to:

receive input data representing a current game situation including at least one of a pitch count, number of outs, and baserunner configuration;

access a dataset comprising historical performance information associated with at least one of a batter and a pitcher;

process the input data and the dataset using a predictive model to generate a recommended baseball instruction including at least one of a pitch type and pitch location;

cause the display to present the recommended baseball instruction; and

provide the transmitter unit with a selection signal corresponding to a baseball instruction selected based at least in part on the recommended baseball instruction.

14 . The system of claim 13 , wherein the predictive model comprises a machine learning model trained on historical game data.

15 . The system of claim 13 , wherein the dataset includes batter tendencies based on situational variables.

16 . The system of claim 13 , wherein the recommended baseball instruction corresponds to an outcome probability associated with a desired defensive result.

17 . The system of claim 13 , wherein the display is configured to present a plurality of recommended baseball instructions ranked according to predicted effectiveness.

18 . A baseball instruction communication system, comprising:

a tablet transmitter including a transmitter unit and a first microcontroller;

wherein the first microcontroller is configured to:

determine a current game situation;

apply a predictive model to generate a selected baseball instruction based on historical performance data; and

automatically provide the transmitter unit with a selection signal corresponding to the selected baseball instruction without requiring manual selection of the baseball instruction.

19 . The system of claim 18 , wherein the predictive model is configured to maximize a probability of a predefined outcome.

20 . The system of claim 18 , wherein the first microcontroller is further configured to permit user override of the automatically selected baseball instruction.

21 . The system of claim 18 , wherein the predictive model updates in real time based on in-game events.

22 . A baseball instruction communication system, comprising:

a tablet transmitter including a first microcontroller and a transmitter unit;

wherein the first microcontroller is configured to:

determine a recommended baseball instruction based on a predictive model;

select a transmitted baseball instruction by applying a controlled randomness factor to the recommended baseball instruction such that the transmitted baseball instruction differs from the recommended baseball instruction with a non-zero probability; and

provide the transmitter unit with a selection signal corresponding to the transmitted baseball instruction.

23 . The system of claim 22 , wherein the controlled randomness factor is weighted based on historical predictability of a batter.

24 . The system of claim 22 , wherein the controlled randomness factor varies based on game situation.

25 . The system of claim 22 , wherein the controlled randomness factor is constrained within a predefined probability range.

26 . The system of claim 22 , wherein the predictive model and the controlled randomness factor collectively implement a mixed-strategy decision process.

27 . A method of sending baseball instructions, comprising:

receiving game situation data at a tablet transmitter;

retrieving historical player data;

generating, using a predictive model, a recommended baseball instruction;

displaying the recommended baseball instruction;

selecting a baseball instruction based at least in part on the recommended baseball instruction; and

transmitting a signal corresponding to the selected baseball instruction to a body-worn wireless receiver that reproduce the selected baseball instruction to be human-perceptible.

28 . A method of sending baseball instructions, comprising:

generating a recommended baseball instruction using a predictive model;

modifying the recommended baseball instruction using a probabilistic selection process such that the modified baseball instruction differs from the recommended baseball instruction with a non-zero probability; and

transmitting a signal corresponding to the modified baseball instruction to a body-worn wireless receiver.
