Abstract

A device sized and shaped for alleviating pelvic organ prolapse when inserted into a vagina, comprising: a prolapse treatment rendering portion configured to be adjustable between a collapsed state and an expanded state, where the expanded state extends substantially in three dimensions, wherein the device has a distal dome disposed at a distal end of the prolapse treatment rendering portion to ease insertion of the device into the vagina.

Claims (24)

1 . A device sized and shaped for alleviating pelvic organ prolapse when inserted into a vagina, comprising:

a prolapse treatment rendering portion configured to be adjustable between a collapsed state and an expanded state, where the expanded state extends substantially in three dimensions,

wherein the device has a distal dome disposed at a distal end of the prolapse treatment rendering portion to ease insertion of the device into the vagina.

2 . The device according to claim 1 , wherein the device comprises an upper element and a lower element which are telescoping and wherein the upper element has a biased spring structure disposed thereon.

3 . The device according to claim 2 , wherein the upper tube and the lower tube releasably interlock to prevent sliding when in the expanded state.

4 . The device according to claim 3 , wherein the lower element is configured with a window within which at least one wing of the biased spring structure is received to interlock the upper and lower tubes.

5 . The device according to claim 1 , wherein the treatment rendering portion is shaped like a sphere.

6 . The device according to claim 1 , wherein the treatment rendering portion is shaped like a pear.

7 . The device according to claim 1 , wherein the treatment rendering portion is shaped like an ovoid.

8 . The device according to claim 1 , wherein the treatment rendering portion is shaped like a cuboid.

9 . The device according to claim 1 , wherein the treatment rendering portion is rotationally symmetric.

10 . The device according to claim 1 , wherein at least a portion of the treatment rendering portion is provided with padding.

11 . The device according to claim 2 , further comprising a removal device attached to the biased spring structure.

12 . The device according to claim 1 , wherein the treatment rendering portion comprises three or more arcs connected to two orthogonal rings.

13 . The device according to claim 12 , wherein the three or more arms are equally spaced apart angularly.

14 . The device according to claim 12 , wherein the three or more arms are not equally spaced apart angularly.

15 . A system for alleviating pelvic organ prolapse when inserted into a vagina, comprising:

(a) a device according to claim 1 ; and,

(b) an applicator which exhibits a larger exterior diameter than the device.

16 . The system according to claim 15 , wherein the distal dome has a larger exterior diameter than the applicator.

17 . The system according to claim 15 , wherein the applicator comprises a holder and a pusher.

18 . The system according to claim 17 , wherein the device is nested within the holder of the applicator when in the collapsed state.

19 . The system according to claim 17 , wherein the pusher is disposed within the holder and proximally of the device.

20 . The system according to claim 17 , wherein the pusher is slidable or screwable within the holder.
