Abstract

Systems and methods for enabling route determination to maximize an operator's intent are described. In an example, a method includes receiving an input via a user interface, the input comprising a destination. The method also includes determining a primary goal and a secondary goal, wherein the primary goal comprises identifying a traversable route from a starting location to the destination, determining a plurality of waypoints based on the secondary goal, and determining a plurality of candidate routes based on the starting location and the destination. The method then includes identifying, from among the plurality of candidate routes, based on a number of waypoints of the plurality of waypoints positioned along each respective route of the plurality of candidate routes, a target route, and generating for navigation by a vehicle, the target route.

Claims (63)

1 . A method comprising:

receiving, at a user device, an input comprising a destination;

determining a plurality of traversable routes from a starting location to the destination;

for each of the plurality of traversable routes:

determining a set of external advertisement surfaces visible from a vehicle traversing the traversable route; and

determining a cost corresponding to the traversable route, wherein the cost is based at least in part on the set of external advertisement surfaces visible from the vehicle traversing the traversable route;

providing for presentation at the user device, an indicator of each of the plurality of traversable routes and the corresponding cost for each of the plurality of traversable routes;

receiving, at the user device, a selection of an indicator corresponding to a selected traversable route of the plurality of traversable routes; and

providing for presentation at the user device, the selected traversable route.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein determining the cost corresponding to the traversable route further comprises:

determining a relevance score between the set of external advertisement surfaces and a user profile associated with the input; and

wherein the cost is determined based at least in part on the relevance score.

3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein determining the cost corresponding to the traversable route further comprises:

calculating a cost reduction of a fare for a rideshare service, wherein the cost reduction is proportional to a number of external advertisement surfaces in the set of external advertisement surfaces visible from the vehicle traversing the traversable route; and

wherein the cost for the traversable route is determined by applying the cost reduction to the fare.

4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the set of external advertisement surfaces includes at least one digital billboard, further comprising:

determining the cost corresponding to the traversable route based on a specific advertisement scheduled to be displayed at an estimated time of arrival (ETA) of the vehicle at the digital billboard.

5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the set of external advertisement surfaces is identified from a database of participant advertisement surfaces; and

wherein each of the participant advertisement surfaces is associated with a participant network and is included in the database based on an election by an owner of at least one of the participant advertisement surfaces to join the participant network.

6 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

identifying a user profile associated with the input; and

instructing a first external advertisement surface in the set to change its displayed content to a specific advertisement determined based on the user profile as the vehicle approaches the first external advertisement surface.

7 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising, providing for presentation, on an internal display of the vehicle, a supplemental advertisement that corresponds to an advertisement currently displayed on at least one external advertisement surface of the set.

8 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

detecting, via an image sensor within the vehicle, that an occupant is looking toward an external advertisement surface of the set; and

based on detecting that the occupant is looking toward the external advertisement surface, registering a confirmed impression for the external advertisement surface.

9 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

identifying, via sensors of the vehicle, a physical obstruction blocking visibility of an external advertisement surface in the set; and

updating the cost corresponding to the traversable route based at least in part on a reduction in visibility caused by the physical obstruction.

10 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

displaying a graphical overlay on an augmented reality surface to highlight a first external advertisement surface in the set.

11 . A system comprising:

input/output circuitry configured to receive an input via a user interface on a user device, the input comprising a destination; and

control circuitry configured to:

determine a plurality of traversable routes from a starting location to the destination;

for each of the plurality of traversable routes:

determine a set of external advertisement surfaces visible from a vehicle traversing the traversable route; and

determine a cost corresponding to the traversable route, wherein the cost is based at least in part on the set of external advertisement surfaces visible from the vehicle traversing the traversable route; and

provide for presentation at the user device, an indicator of each of the plurality of traversable routes and the corresponding cost for each of the plurality of traversable routes;

wherein the input/output circuitry is further configured to receive, via the user interface, a selection of an indicator corresponding to a selected traversable route of the plurality of traversable routes; and

wherein the control circuitry is further configured to provide for presentation at the user device, the selected traversable route.

12 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the control circuitry configured to determine the cost corresponding to the traversable route is further configured to:

determine a relevance score between the set of external advertisement surfaces and a user profile associated with the input; and

wherein the cost is determined based at least in part on the relevance score.

13 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the control circuitry configured to determine the cost corresponding to the traversable route is further configured to:

calculate a cost reduction of a fare for a rideshare service, wherein the cost reduction is proportional to a number of external advertisement surfaces in the set of external advertisement surfaces visible from the vehicle traversing the traversable route; and

wherein the cost for the traversable route is determined by applying the cost reduction to the fare.

14 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the set of external advertisement surfaces includes at least one digital billboard, and wherein the control circuitry is further configured to:

determine the cost corresponding to the traversable route based on a specific advertisement scheduled to be displayed at an estimated time of arrival (ETA) of the vehicle at the digital billboard.

15 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the set of external advertisement surfaces is identified from a database of participant advertisement surfaces, and wherein each of the participant advertisement surfaces is associated with a participant network and is included in the database based on an election by an owner of at least one of the participant advertisement surfaces to join the participant network.

16 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the control circuitry is further configured to:

identify a user profile associated with the input; and

instruct a first external advertisement surface in the set to change its displayed content to a specific advertisement determined based on the user profile as the vehicle approaches the first external advertisement surface.

17 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the control circuitry is further configured to:

provide for presentation, on an internal display of the vehicle, a supplemental advertisement that corresponds to an advertisement currently displayed on at least one external advertisement surface of the set.

18 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the control circuitry is further configured to:

detect, via an image sensor within the vehicle, that an occupant is looking toward an external advertisement surface of the set; and

based on detecting that the occupant is looking toward the external advertisement surface, register a confirmed impression for the external advertisement surface.

19 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the control circuitry is further configured to:

identify, via a sensor of the vehicle, a physical obstruction blocking visibility of an external advertisement surface in the set; and

update the cost corresponding to the traversable route based at least in part on a reduction in visibility caused by the physical obstruction.

20 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the control circuitry is further configured to:

display a graphical overlay on an augmented reality surface to highlight a first external advertisement surface in the set.
