Abstract

A method for adjusting the operating parameters of a wireless device for use in a wireless communication network begins by entering and storing situation settings. When a communication is received at the network for the wireless device, the presence of the wireless device is determined. The situation settings are applied based upon the presence of the wireless device. The wireless device is informed of the communication via the applied situation settings.

Claims (37)

1. A method for adjusting the operating parameters of a wireless device for use in a wireless communication network, comprising the steps of:

generating situation settings relating to a situation of the wireless device;

storing the situation settings;

receiving a communication at the network for the wireless device;

determining the presence of the wireless device;

applying the situation settings based upon the presence of the wireless device, whereby the operating parameters of the wireless device are adjusted; and

informing the wireless device of the communication via the applied situation settings.

2. The method according to claim 1 , wherein said generating step is performed at the wireless device.

3. The method according to claim 1 , wherein said generating step is performed at the network.

4. The method according to claim 1 , wherein said storing step is performed at the wireless device.

5. The method according to claim 1 , wherein said storing step is performed at the network.

6. The method according to claim 1 , wherein said storing step is performed partly at the wireless device and partly at the network.

7. The method according to claim 1 , wherein said determining step is performed at the wireless device.

8. The method according to claim 1 , wherein said determining step is performed at the network.

9. The method according to claim 1 , wherein said applying step is performed at the wireless device.

10. The method according to claim 1 , wherein said applying step is performed at the network.

11. The method according to claim 1 , wherein

the situation of the wireless device is selected from the group consisting of: the physical location of the wireless device, the proximity to other wireless devices, and the environment a user of the wireless device is in; and

the presence of the wireless device includes the networks and communication services that the wireless device is able to access.

12. A system for adjusting the operating parameters of a wireless device in a wireless communication network, comprising:

generating means for generating situation settings, the situation settings relating to a situation of the wireless device;

storing means for storing the situation settings;

receiving means for receiving a communication at said network for said wireless device;

presence means for determining the presence of said wireless device;

applying means for applying the situation settings based upon the presence of said wireless device, whereby the operating parameters of said wireless device are adjusted; and

informing means for informing said wireless device of the communication via the applied situation settings.

13. The system according to claim 12 , wherein said wireless device includes said generating means.

14. The system according to claim 12 , wherein said network includes said generating means.

15. The system according to claim 12 , wherein said wireless device includes said storing means.

16. The system according to claim 12 , wherein said wireless device includes said presence means.

17. The system according to claim 12 , wherein said wireless device includes said applying means.

18. The system according to claim 12 , wherein said network includes said storing means.

19. The system according to claim 12 , wherein said network includes said presence means.

20. The system according to claim 12 , wherein said network includes said applying means.

21. The system according to claim 12 , wherein

the situation of the wireless device is selected from the group consisting of: the physical location of the wireless device, the proximity to other wireless devices, and the environment a user of the wireless device is in; and

the presence of the wireless device includes the networks and communication services that the wireless device is able to access.
