Abstract

Image display device having an electrode forming layer which includes a plurality of gate lines, a plurality of drain lines, a plurality of switching elements and the a plurality of pixel electrodes, and having reference electrode layer between the electrode forming layer and a substrate where the electrode forming layer formed thereon, and the reference electrode layer and the electrode forming layer are insulated by insulating layer.

Claims (54)

1. A liquid crystal display device comprising:

first and second substrates;

a liquid crystal layer formed between the first and second substrates;

a plurality of gate lines and a plurality of drain lines formed on the first substrate;

a plurality of pixels each with a counter electrode and a pixel electrode formed on the first substrate; and

a transparent reference electrode formed on the first substrate,

wherein the counter electrode is formed over the transparent reference electrode with a first insulating layer therebetween,

the pixel electrode is formed over the counter electrode with a second insulating layer therebetween, and

an area of the transparent reference electrode in a respective pixel is larger than an area of the counter electrode in the respective pixel, and the area of the counter electrode in the respective pixel is larger than an area of the pixel electrode in the respective pixel.

2. A liquid crystal display device according to claim 1 , wherein the counter electrode is in a planar shape, and the pixel electrode is in a planar shape with a plurality of slits arranged in a herringbone shape.

3. A liquid crystal display device according to claim 2 , wherein the plurality of slits are arranged in a herringbone shape.

4. A liquid crystal display device according to claim 1 , wherein the pixel electrode and the counter electrode are not overlapped with any of the drain lines and the gate lines.

5. A liquid crystal display device according to claim 1 , wherein the counter electrode is in a planer shape, and the pixel electrode include a plurality of line-shaped portions.

6. A liquid crystal display device according to claim 5 , wherein the plurality of line-shaped portions are arranged in a herringbone shape.

7. A liquid crystal display device according to claim 1 , wherein the first insulating layer arranged between the transparent reference electrode and the counter electrode is made of an organic material.

8. A liquid crystal display device according to claim 1 , wherein the transparent reference electrode and the counter electrode are connected by a thorough hole.

9. A liquid crystal display device according to claim 8 , wherein the thorough hole is buried by the second insulating layer formed between the counter electrode and the pixel electrode.

10. A liquid crystal display device according to claim 1 , wherein the second insulating layer formed between the counter electrode and the pixel electrode includes a plurality of insulating layers.

11. A liquid crystal display device comprising:

first and second substrates;

a liquid crystal layer formed between the first and second substrates;

a plurality of gate lines and a plurality of drain lines formed on the first substrate;

a plurality of pixels each with a counter electrode and a pixel electrode formed on the first substrate; and

a transparent reference electrode formed on the first substrate,

wherein the counter electrode is formed over the transparent reference electrode with a first insulating layer therebetween,

the pixel electrode is formed over the counter electrode with a second insulating layer therebetween, and

a width of the transparent reference electrode in a respective pixel is wider than a width of the counter electrode in the respective pixel, and the width of the counter electrode in the respective pixel is wider than a width of the pixel electrode in the respective pixel.

12. A liquid crystal display device according to claim 11 , wherein the counter electrode is in a planar shape, and the pixel electrode is in a planar shape with a plurality of slits arranged in a herringbone shape.

13. A liquid crystal display device according to claim 12 , wherein the plurality of slits are arranged in a herringbone shape.

14. A liquid crystal display device according to claim 11 , wherein the pixel electrode and the counter electrode are not overlapped with any of the drain lines and the gate lines.

15. A liquid crystal display device according to claim 11 , wherein the counter electrode is in a planer shape, and the pixel electrode include a plurality of line-shaped portions.

16. A liquid crystal display device according to claim 15 , wherein the plurality of line-shaped portions are arranged in a herringbone shape.

17. A liquid crystal display device according to claim 11 , wherein the first insulating layer arranged between the transparent reference electrode and the counter electrode is made of an organic material.

18. A liquid crystal display device according to claim 11 , wherein the transparent reference electrode and the counter electrode are connected by a thorough hole.

19. A liquid crystal display device according to claim 18 , wherein the thorough hole is buried by the second insulating layer formed between the counter electrode and the pixel electrode.

20. A liquid crystal display device according to claim 11 , wherein the second insulating layer formed between the counter electrode and the pixel electrode includes a plurality of insulating layers.

21. A liquid crystal display device comprising:

first and second substrates;

a liquid crystal layer formed between the first and second substrates;

a plurality of gate lines and a plurality of drain lines formed on the first substrate;

a plurality of pixels each with a counter electrode and a pixel electrode formed on the first substrate; and

a transparent reference electrode formed on the first substrate,

wherein the counter electrode is formed over the transparent reference electrode with a first insulating layer therebetween,

the pixel electrode is formed over the counter electrode with a second insulating layer therebetween, and

a length of the transparent reference electrode in a respective pixel is longer than a length of the counter electrode in the respective pixel, and the length of the counter electrode in the respective pixel is longer than a length of the pixel electrode in the respective pixel.

22. A liquid crystal display device according to claim 21 , wherein the counter electrode is in a planar shape, and the pixel electrode is in a planar shape with a plurality of slits arranged in a herringbone shape.

23. A liquid crystal display device according to claim 22 , wherein the plurality of slits are arranged in a herringbone shape.

24. A liquid crystal display device according to claim 21 , wherein the pixel electrode and the counter electrode are not overlapped with any of the drain lines and the gate lines.

25. A liquid crystal display device according to claim 21 , wherein the counter electrode is in a planer shape, and the pixel electrode include a plurality of line-shaped portions.

26. A liquid crystal display device according to claim 25 , wherein the plurality of line-shaped portions are arranged in a herringbone shape.

27. A liquid crystal display device according to claim 21 , wherein the first insulating layer arranged between the transparent reference electrode and the counter electrode is made of an organic material.

28. A liquid crystal display device according to claim 21 , wherein the transparent reference electrode and the counter electrode are connected by a thorough hole.

29. A liquid crystal display device according to claim 28 , wherein the thorough hole is buried by the second insulating layer formed between the counter electrode and the pixel electrode.

30. A liquid crystal display device according to claim 21 , wherein the second insulating layer formed between the counter electrode and the pixel electrode includes a plurality of insulating layers.
