Abstract

A bar code including a first linear bar code portion, and portions with two-dimensional bar codes at the ends of the first bar code portion. A separation through the first portion. The two-dimensional bar code at each end is inverted from the other end, and in an embodiment is also rotated 180.degree., which enable the two-dimensional bar codes on separated parts of the single bar code to be identical.

Claims (14)

1. A bar code label comprising:

first and second two-dimensional bar codes encoding the same first information;

a linear bar code interposed between the first and second two-dimensional bar codes, the linear bar code encoding second information; and

a perforation passing through bars of the linear bar code but not passing through the first and second two-dimensional bar codes, wherein when the bar code label is separated along the perforation first and second bar code label portions are created,

wherein the first bar code label portion comprises the first two-dimensional bar code and a portion of the linear bar code and the second bar code label portion comprises the second two-dimensional bar code and a portion of the linear bar code.

2. The bar code label as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the perforation is a series of holes.

3. The bar code label as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the perforation is a slit.

4. The bar code label as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the perforation is a cut.

5. The bar code label as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the perforation is a weakened line.

6. The bar code label as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the second bar code label portion is printed on a peel-off label.

7. The bar code label as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the bar code label is a medical label.

8. The bar code label as claimed in claim 7 , wherein the medical label is a prescription drug label.

9. The bar code label as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the first two-dimensional bar code is printed in the same orientation as the second two-dimensional bar code.

10. The bar code label as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the first and second two-dimensional bar codes are printed in orientations that are symmetrical about the perforation.
