Printer and stacker and methods
Disclosed are a printer and a stacker and methods. The printer prints selectively on one or both sides of a printable web and sheets or labels are cut from the web and stacked in the stacker. The printer has an unwind mechanism that accepts and holds web rolls of different widths in center-justified relationship with respect to a print head. The printer has a spindle for mounting an ink ribbon core with a detent for center-justifying the ink-ribbon with respect to the print head.
1. A spindle assembly, comprising:
an axially extending spindle capable of mounting supply roll cores of different widths,
a latch on the spindle and having a set of stepped shoulders engageable with one end of any one of two or more supply roll cores of different widths,
a stop on the spindle, the stop being engageable with the other end of any one of supply roll cores of different widths so that any one of the supply roll cores of different widths is straddled between the stop and one of the shoulders,
the latch including an axially extending pivot, the latch being pivotally mounted on the pivot, and
a spring that urges the latch member into contact with the inside of the core.
2. A spindle assembly as defined in claim 1 , in combination with a core non-rotatably mounted on the spindle, and a supply web wound on the core.
3. A spindle assembly, comprising:
an axially extending spindle for mounting a supply roll core of a selected width having a web wound thereon,
a stop on the spindle providing a stop position for the core,
an axially extending latch movably mounted on the spindle and having a core-engageable portion capable of engagement with end portions of cores of different selected widths, the latch being pivotal on the spindle on an axially extending axis, wherein the spindle and the latch are capable of being received on the inside of the core, and
a spring capable of urging the core-engageable portion transversely into engagement with a core of a selected width.
4. A spindle assembly as defined in claim 3 , wherein the core-engageable portion includes a plurality of teeth.
5. A spindle assembly as defined in claim 3 , wherein the core-engageable portions comprise a surface inclined with respect to the axial direction.
