Abstract

Disclosed is a fluorescent substance comprising an alkaline earth ortho-silicate, the fluorescent substance being activated by Eu 2+ , and further comprising at least one selected from the group consisting of La, Gd, Cs and K.

Claims (25)

1. A fluorescent substance comprising an alkaline earth ortho-silicate, the fluorescent substance being a particle activated by Eu 2+ and comprising at least one selected from the group consisting of La, Gd, Cs and K, the particle having a surface covering material on a surface.

2. The fluorescent substance according to claim 1 , wherein an emission spectrum of the fluorescent substance as it is excited by light having a wavelength ranging from 360 nm to 500 nm has a single emission band having a wavelength falling between 520 nm and 600 nm.

3. The fluorescent substance according to claim 1 , wherein the fluorescent substance has a composition represented by the following general formula (2):

(Sr 1-x-y-z-w Ca x Ba y A z Eu w ) 2 Si v O 2+2v   (2)

(in the general formula (2), A is at least one kind of element selected from the group consisting of La, Gd, Cs and K; and x, y, z, w and v are numeric values satisfying the following relationships: 0≦x≦0.8; 0≦y≦0.6; 0≦z≦0.1; 0.001≦w≦0.2; 0<(1-x-y-z-w)<1; and 0.9≦v≦1.1).

4. The fluorescent substance according to claim 3 , wherein y=0 in the general formula (2).

5. The fluorescent substance according to claim 1 , wherein a crystal structure of the fluorescent substance is orthorhombic system.

6. The fluorescent substance according to claim 1 , wherein the fluorescent substance emits luminescence of colors ranging from green to orange.

7. The fluorescent substance according to claim 3 , wherein v in the general formula (2) is confined within the range of 0.95 to 1.05.

8. The fluorescent substance according to claim 1 , wherein the covering material is formed of at least one selected from the group consisting of silicone resin, epoxy resin, fluorinated resin, tetraethoxy silane, silica, zinc silicate, aluminum silicate, calcium polyphosphate, silicone oil, and silicone grease.

9. The fluorescent substance according to claim 1 , wherein the covering material is provided at a ratio of 0.1 to 50% by volume based on the volume of fluorescent substance.

10. A light-emitting device comprising:

a light-emitting element emitting light at wavelength of 360 nm to 500 nm; and

a layer comprising fluorescent substance formed on the light-emitting element, the fluorescent substance comprising an alkaline earth ortho-silicate, the fluorescent substance being a particle activated by Eu 2+ and comprising at least one selected from the group consisting of La, Gd, Cs and K, the particle having a covering material on a surface.

11. The light-emitting device according to claim 10 , wherein an emission spectrum of the fluorescent substance as it is excited by light having a wavelength ranging from 360 nm to 500 nm has a single emission band having a wavelength falling between 520 nm and 600 nm.

12. The fluorescent substance according to claim 10 , wherein the fluorescent substance has a composition represented by the following general formula (2):

(Sr 1-x-y-z-w Ca x Ba y A z Eu w ) 2 Si v O 2+2v   (2)

(in the general formula (2), A is at least one kind of element selected from the group consisting of La, Gd, Cs and K; and x, y, z, w and v are numeric values satisfying the following relationships: 0≦x≦0.8; 0≦y≦0.6; 0≦z≦0.1; 0.001≦w≦0.2; 0<(1-x-y-z-w)<1; and 0.9≦v≦1.1).

13. The light-emitting device according to claim 12 , wherein y=0 in the general formula (2).

14. The light-emitting device according to claim 10 , wherein a crystal structure of the fluorescent substance is orthorhombic system.

15. The light-emitting device according to claim 10 , wherein the fluorescent substance emits luminescence of colors ranging from green to orange.

16. The light-emitting device according to claim 12 , wherein v in the general formula (2) is confined within the range of 0.95 to 1.05.

17. The light-emitting device according to claim 10 , wherein the covering material is provided at a ratio of 0.1 to 50% by volume based on the volume of fluorescent substance.

18. The light-emitting device according to claim 10 , wherein the layer further comprises a blue-emitting fluorescent substance and a red-emitting fluorescent substance.

19. The light-emitting device according to claim 10 , wherein the covering material is formed of at least one selected from the group consisting of silicone resin, epoxy resin, fluorinated resin, tetraethoxy silane, silica, zinc silicate, aluminum silicate, calcium polyphosphate, silicone oil, and silicone grease.
