Abstract

To provide adhesive compositions for optical fibers which are curable with moisture and excellent in adhesiveness and resistance to moist heat. An Adhesive composition for optical fibers containing (A) a component having a reactive silicon containing group which contains (e) a compound obtained by reacting (a) an epoxy compound having at least one epoxy group with (b) a silane coupling agent having both a reactive silicon containing group and an epoxy-reactive group, wherein the component (A) has a molecular weight of 1000 or below per reactive silicon containing group; and an adhesive composition for optical fibers containing an alkylsilyl ester and (B) a compound other than the alkylsilyl ester which has at least one reactive silicon containing group.

Claims (16)

1. An adhesive composition for optical fibers; comprising:

a compound (B) having at least one reactive silicon-containing group, which is obtained by reacting an aromatic epoxy compound with a secondary aminosilane compound; and

an alkylsilyl ester, wherein said alkylsilyl ester is represented by the formula:

and/or oligomer thereof, wherein R 1 is an alkyl group having 1 to 6 carbon atoms and R 2 is an alkyl group having 1 to 3 carbon atoms.

2. The adhesive composition for optical fibers of claim 1 , wherein the alkylsilyl ester is a methylsilyl ester monomer and/or oligomer.

3. The adhesive composition for optical fibers claim 1 which comprises from 1 to 300 parts by weight of the reactive silicon-containing group-bearing compound (B) per 100 parts by weight of the alkylsilyl ester.

4. The adhesive composition for optical fibers claim 1 which further comprises a curing catalyst.

5. The adhesive composition for optical fibers of claim 1 , wherein the aromatic epoxy compound is a glycidyl ether of bisphenol A or a glycidyl ether of bisphenol F.

6. The adhesive composition for optical fibers of claim 1 , wherein said secondary aminosilane is represented by the following formula (1)

7. The adhesive composition for optical fibers of claim 1 , wherein the compound (B) is a reaction product obtainable by reacting one to two equivalents of the compound represented by the following formula (1)

with one equivalent of the glycidyl ether of bisphenol A or glycidyl ether of bisphenol F.

8. An adhesive composition for optical fibers, comprising:

a compound represented by the following formula (7)

 and

an alkylsilyl ester, wherein said alkylsilyl ester is represented by the formula:

and/or oligomer thereof. wherein R 1 is an alkyl group having 1 to 6 carbon atoms and R 2 is an alkyl group having 1 to 3 carbon atoms.
