Abstract

Breathing interval measurement apparatus for measuring breathing of a subject, the apparatus comprising: a breathing interval beginning determinator, a breathing interval end determinator, and a timer associated with said breathing interval beginning determinator and said breathing interval end determinator to measure an interval between activation of said determinators, and a processor operable with said timer to assign levels of importance to said measured time interval.

Claims (57)

1. A method comprising:

receiving medical data related to a patient at a remote communication center via a communication network, wherein the medical data is obtained via a self-administered test and wherein a test apparatus associated with the remote communication center is configured to apply the self-administered test, the test apparatus comprising:

a breathing interval beginning determinator;

a breathing interval end determinator;

a timer associated with the breathing interval beginning determinator and the breathing interval end determinator configured to measure a time interval between activation of the breathing interval beginning determinator and the breathing interval end determinator; and

a processor configured to assign levels of importance to the measured time interval, wherein the processor is further configured to assign high levels of importance to short measured time intervals and successively lower levels of importance to successively longer measured time intervals;

identifying costs of the communication network associated with receipt of the medical data;

determining, at a computing device associated with the remote communication center, a medical institution to which the costs are assigned; and

sending a cost report assigning the identified costs to the medical institution via the communication network, wherein the patient and medical institution are at separate locations.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the processor is further configured to define at least four levels of importance to said result.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the processor is further configured to define at least seven levels of importance.

4. The method of claim 3 , wherein the processor is further configured to be remotely located.

5. The method of claim 4 , wherein the processor is further configured to:

receive other measurements from the patient,

assign levels of importance based on the other measurements, and

generating a recommendation based on the levels of importance.

6. The method of claim 5 , wherein the test apparatus further comprises a communicator configured for:

selecting a communication target; and

communicating the recommendation to the communication target.

7. The method of claim 6 , wherein the communication target comprises medical personnel.

8. The method of claim 7 , further comprising:

selecting at least one of the other measurements and the recommendation; and

automatically informing at least one of said medical personnel of the selected at least one of the other measurements and the recommendation.

9. The method of claim 6 , wherein the communicator is further configured to select the communication target in accordance with the recommendation.

10. The method of claim 9 , the communicator is further configured to associate the recommendation with a plurality of selectable targets.

11. The method of claim 10 , wherein the plurality of selectable targets include at least one target selected from a group consisting of a laboratory for carrying out a respective test, a pharmaceutical supplier for supplying a relevant pharmaceutical, a hospital for making available medical facilities, a specialist medical practitioner for providing specialist medical services and a general medical practitioner for providing generalized medical services.

12. The method of claim 6 , further comprising:

communicating, via the communicator, messages of successively increasing levels of importance in accordance with the recommendation.

13. The method of claim 12 , further comprising:

associating the recommendation with a plurality of predetermined follow-up question for testing an understanding of the recommendation;

selecting a selected follow-up question of the plurality of predetermined follow-up questions associated with the recommendation;

communicating the selected follow-up question via said communicator; and

determining that the recommendation is understood based on a response to the selected follow-up question.

14. A method comprising:

receiving medical data related to a patient at a remote communication center via a communication network, wherein the medical data is obtained via a self-administered test and wherein a test apparatus associated with the remote communication center is configured to apply the self-administered test, the test apparatus comprising:

a breathing interval beginning determinator;

a breathing interval end determinator;

a timer associated with the breathing interval beginning determinator and the breathing interval end deteiminator configured to measure a time interval between activation of the breathing interval beginning determinator and the breathing interval end determinator; and

a processor configured to assign levels of importance to the measured time interval;

identifying costs of the communication network associated with receipt of the medical data;

sending a cost report assigning the identified costs to a medical institution via the communication network, wherein the patient and medical institution are at separate locations;

storing profiles of individual patients;

obtaining identity information of a patient;

associating, at a computing device associated with the remote communication center, the patient with a respective profile based on the identity information, wherein the respective profile comprises medical history information of said patient;

determining at a computing device associated with the remote communication center, a modified recommendation based on the respective profile; and

adjusting the levels of importance based on the medical history information and the other measurements, wherein adjusting the levels of importance comprises adjusting the levels of importance based on predetermined modification rules for modifying the levels of importance in accordance with a particular condition in the medical history information.

15. The method of claim 14 , wherein the particular condition is a condition selected from a group consisting of a cardiovascular accident (CVA), brain hemorrhage, brain blockage, transient ischemic attack (TIA), diabetes, bruit, and a point of maximum impulse (PMI).

16. The method of claim 15 , wherein the other measurements comprise a blood pressure measurement.

17. The method of claim 16 , further comprising:

assigning a predetermined delta to each condition of a plurality of conditions for a respective measurement of the other measurements; and

assigning a level of importance based on an initial threshold set associated with the respective measurement and a summation of each predetermined delta for each condition of the plurality of conditions.

18. The method of claim 14 , further comprising:

assigning a predetermined delta to each condition of a plurality of conditions for a respective measurement of the other measurements; and

assigning a level of importance based on an initial threshold set associated with the respective measurement and a summation of each predetermined delta for each condition of the plurality of conditions.

19. The method of claim 18 , further comprising generating an additional recommendation based on the recommendation and an additional measurement.

20. The method of claim 19 , further comprising generating a third recommendation based on the recommendation and the additional recommendation.

21. The method of claim 20 , further comprising generating a fourth recommendation based on additional input and at least one of the recommendation, the additional recommendation and the third recommendation.
