Spirocyclic heterocyclic derivatives and methods of their use
Spirocyclic heterocyclic derivatives, pharmaceutical compositions containing these compounds, and methods for their pharmaceutical use are disclosed. In certain embodiments, the spirocyclic heterocyclic derivatives are ligands of the δ opioid receptor and may be useful, inter alia, for treating and/or preventing pain, anxiety, gastrointestinal disorders, and other δ opioid receptor-mediated conditions.
1. A method for inhibiting or treating a mood disorder selected from the group consisting of depression and bipolar manic-depression comprising administering to a patient in need thereof an effective amount of a compound of the following formula:
or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt or N-oxide thereof.
2. A method according to claim 1 wherein the mood disorder is depression.
3. A method according to claim 1 wherein the mood disorder is bipolar manic-depression.
4. A method according to claim 1 wherein said compound is in the form of a pharmaceutically acceptable salt.
5. A method according to claim 4 wherein said salt is a hydrochloride salt.
6. A method for inhibiting or treating a mood disorder selected from the group consisting of depression and bipolar manic-depression comprising administering to a patient in need thereof an effective amount of a pharmaceutical composition comprising, in combination with a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier, a compound of the following formula:
or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt or N-oxide thereof.
7. A method according to claim 6 wherein the mood disorder is depression.
8. A method according to claim 6 wherein the mood disorder is bipolar manic-depression.
9. A method according to claim 6 wherein said compound is in the form of a pharmaceutically acceptable salt.
10. A method according to claim 9 wherein said salt is a hydrochloride salt.
11. A method for inhibiting or treating anxiety comprising administering to a patient in need thereof an effective amount of a compound of the following formula:
or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt or N-oxide thereof.
12. A method according to claim 11 wherein said compound is in the form of a pharmaceutically acceptable salt.
13. A method according to claim 12 wherein said salt is a hydrochloride salt.
14. A method for inhibiting or treating anxiety comprising administering to a patient in need thereof an effective amount of a pharmaceutical composition comprising, in combination with a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier, a compound of the following formula:
or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt or N-oxide thereof.
15. A method according to claim 14 wherein said compound is in the form of a pharmaceutically acceptable salt.
16. A method according to claim 15 wherein said salt is a hydrochloride salt.
