Abstract

A display control device used to govern non-content regions in a display space, and selectively determine data for display in the non-content regions is described. The display control device can identify the non-content regions, and determine types of data that can be filled in the non-content regions. Once determined, the fill data can be presented in the non-content regions concurrently with an image frame.

Claims (58)

1. A method comprising:

identifying two or more regions of a display space being displayed in a current frame by a display device, each region being a non-content region;

evaluating each non-content region separately based on display device information selected from a group of content displayed in the display space or property information associated with the display device, the property information including information associated with one of an aspect ratio of the display device or dimensions of the display space;

determining fill data for each non-content region separately based at least in part on a gradient texture of the content; and

providing the fill data for display in each non-content region.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein identifying two or more regions includes determining a dimensional width and a dimensional height of each non-content region, and aborting display of the fill data if one of the dimensional height or width does not meet a predetermined threshold.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein:

identifying two or more regions includes identifying a first non-content region and a second non-content region;

determining fill data for each non-content region separately based on the display device information includes:

determining first fill data for the first non-content region using one or more first regions proximate to the first non-content region, and

determining second fill data for the second non-content region using one or more second regions proximate to the second non-content region; and

displaying the fill data in each non-content region includes displaying the first fill data in the first non-content region and the second fill data in the second non-content region.

4. The method of claim 3 , wherein determining the second fill data for the second non-content region using the one or more second regions includes:

determining one or more distinct regions that are proximate to the second non-content region with at least one distinct region being different from the one or more first regions; and

determining the second fill data for the second non-content region using the one or more distinct regions.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein:

determining the fill data includes determining a display gradient of the fill data based at least in part on the gradient texture of the content; and

providing the fill data for display includes providing for display a fading effect in at least one of the non-content region according to the display gradient, where the fading effect begins at an edge of the non-content region and ends at an opposite edge of the non-content region.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein determining fill data for each non-content region is further based on a result of the evaluating.

7. A storage device having stored thereon instructions, which, when executed by a processor, causes the processor to perform operations comprising:

identifying two or more regions of a display space being displayed in a current frame by a display device, each region being a non-content region;

evaluating each non-content region separately based on display device information selected from a group of content displayed in the display space or property information associated with the display device, where the property information includes information associated with one of an aspect ratio of the display device or dimensions of the display space;

determining fill data for each non-content region separately based at least in part on a gradient texture of the content; and

providing the fill data for display in each non-content region.

8. The storage device of claim 7 , wherein identifying two or more regions includes determining a dimensional width and a dimensional height of each non-content region, and aborting display of the fill data if one of the dimensional height or width does not meet a predetermined threshold.

9. The storage device of claim 7 , wherein:

identifying two or more regions includes identifying a first non-content region and a second non-content region;

determining fill data for each non-content region separately based on the display device information includes:

determining first fill data for the first non-content region using one or more first regions proximate to the first non-content region, and

determining second fill data for the second non-content region using one or more second regions proximate to the second non-content region; and

displaying the fill data in each non-content region includes displaying the first fill data in the first non-content region and the second fill data in the second non-content region.

10. The storage device of claim 9 , wherein determining the second fill data for the second non-content region using the one or more second regions includes:

determining one or more distinct regions that are proximate to the second non-content region with at least one distinct region being different from the one or more first regions; and

determining the second fill data for the second non-content region using the one or more distinct regions.

11. The storage device of claim 7 , wherein:

determining the fill data includes determining a display gradient of the fill data based at least in part on the gradient texture of the content; and

providing the fill data for display includes providing for display a fading effect in at least one of the non-content region according to the display gradient, where the fading effect begins at an edge of the non-content region and ends at an opposite edge of the non-content region.

12. The storage device of claim 7 , wherein determining fill data for each non-content region is further based on a result of the evaluating.

13. A system comprising:

one or more computers configured to perform operations comprising:

identifying two or more regions of a display space being displayed in a current frame by a display device, each region being a non-content region;

evaluating each non-content region separately based on display device information selected from a group of content displayed in the display space or property information associated with the display device, where the property information includes information associated with one of an aspect ratio of the display device or dimensions of the display space;

determining fill data for each non-content region separately based at least in part on a gradient texture of the content; and

providing the fill data for display in each non-content region.

14. The system of claim 13 , wherein identifying two or more regions includes determining a dimensional width and a dimensional height of each non-content region, and aborting display of the fill data if one of the dimensional height or width does not meet a predetermined threshold.
