Abstract

Described is device comprising dosimeter for measuring one or more doses of radiation; and an RFID tag comprising an antenna for communicating with an RFID tag reader and non-volatile memory for storing data therein.

Claims (22)

1. A device comprising:

a dosimeter for measuring one or more doses of radiation; and

a radio frequency identification (RFID) tag comprising:

an antenna for communicating with an RFID tag reader, and

a non-volatile memory for storing data,

wherein the dosimeter comprises one or more optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) sensors, wherein the dosimeter comprises a dosimeter sled, wherein the RFID tag is mounted on the dosimeter sled, wherein a lateral side of the dosimeter sled comprises a positioning notch for each respective OSL sensor for aligning with a mark on a dosimeter reader to thereby indicate that the OSL sensor is in a proper position for being read out by the dosimeter reader, wherein the RFID tag reader is part of the dosimeter reader and wherein one of the positioning notches is also for indicating that the RFID tag is in position for communicating with the RFID tag reader when the positioning notch is aligned with the mark on the dosimeter reader.

2. The device of claim 1 , wherein the dosimeter is part of a badge that may be worn by an individual.

3. The device of claim 1 , wherein the non-volatile memory of the RFID tag has data stored therein.

4. The device of claim 3 , wherein the data stored in the non-volatile memory of the RFID tag comprises identification information for a model type of the dosimeter.

5. The device of claim 3 , wherein the data stored in the non-volatile memory of the RFID tag comprises a dosimeter serial number for the dosimeter.

6. The device of claim 3 , wherein the data stored in the non-volatile memory of the RFID tag comprises information regarding the assignment of the dosimeter to an individual.

7. The device of claim 6 , wherein the data stored in the non-volatile memory of the RFID tag comprises an identification number for the individual to whom the dosimeter is assigned.

8. The device of claim 6 , wherein the data stored in the non-volatile memory of the RFID tag comprises date and time information regarding the assignment of the dosimeter to an individual.

9. The device of claim 3 , wherein the data stored in the non-volatile memory of the RFID tag comprises calibration data for each of the one or more OSL sensors.

10. The device of claim 3 , wherein the data stored in the non-volatile memory of the RFID tag comprises information for estimating a buildup of background radiation in the dosimeter.

11. The device of claim 10 , wherein the data stored in the non-volatile memory of the RFID tag comprises date and time information for estimating a buildup of background radiation in the dosimeter.

12. The device of claim 3 , wherein the data stored in the non-volatile memory of the RFID tag comprises a total dose of radiation to which the dosimeter has been exposed.

13. The device of claim 3 , wherein the data stored in the non-volatile memory of the RFID tag comprises a total dose of x-rays and gamma rays to which the dosimeter has been exposed.

14. The device of claim 3 , wherein the data stored in the non-volatile memory of the RFID tag comprises a total dose of neutrons to which the dosimeter has been exposed.

15. The device of claim 3 , wherein the data stored in the non-volatile memory of the RFID tag comprises reader quality control data depicting the operability of a dosimeter reader that is being used to read the one or more OSL sensors.

16. The device of claim 3 , wherein one or more dosimeter readers have read one or more dosage measurements for the dosimeter, and wherein the data stored in the non-volatile memory of the RFID tag comprises the serial number of the dosimeter reader used to read the last dosage measurement for the dosimeter.

17. The device of claim 3 , wherein the dosimeter comprises two or more optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) sensors.
