Abstract

A recording medium according to an embodiment of the present invention includes a base-view stream and a dependent-view stream. The base-view stream is used for monoscopic video playback. The dependent-view stream is used for stereoscopic video playback in combination with the base-view stream. The recording medium further includes a first file and a second file. The first file refers to the base-view stream in monoscopic video playback, and the second file refers to the base-view stream in stereoscopic video playback.

Claims (92)

1. A non-transitory recording medium, comprising:

a base-view stream used for monoscopic video playback;

a dependent-view stream used for stereoscopic video playback in combination with the base-view stream;

a first file used in the monoscopic video playback;

a second file used in the stereoscopic video playback;

a shared stereoscopic/monoscopic area, the shared stereoscopic/monoscopic area being a physical area of the non-transitory recording medium;

a dedicated stereoscopic area, the dedicated stereoscopic area being a physical area of the non-transitory recording medium; and

a dedicated monoscopic area, the dedicated monoscopic area being a physical area of the non-transitory recording medium,

wherein the shared stereoscopic/monoscopic area is accessed both in the stereoscopic video playback and in the monoscopic video playback,

wherein the dedicated stereoscopic area is accessed in the stereoscopic video playback,

wherein the dedicated monoscopic area is exclusively accessed in the monoscopic video playback and is not accessed in the stereoscopic video playback,

wherein a plurality of base-view data blocks recorded in the shared stereoscopic/monoscopic area are formed from the base-view stream,

wherein a plurality of base-view data blocks recorded in the dedicated stereoscopic area are formed from the base-view stream,

wherein a plurality of base-view data blocks recorded in the dedicated monoscopic area are formed from the base-view stream,

wherein the plurality of base-view data blocks recorded in the dedicated monoscopic area are identical to the plurality of base-view data blocks recorded in the dedicated stereoscopic area,

wherein a plurality of dependent-view data blocks recorded in the shared stereoscopic/monoscopic area are formed from the dependent-view stream,

wherein a plurality of dependent-view data blocks recorded in the dedicated stereoscopic area are formed from the dependent-view stream,

wherein the first file refers to the plurality of base-view data blocks recorded in the shared stereoscopic/monoscopic area and to the plurality of base-view data blocks recorded in the dedicated monoscopic area,

wherein the second file refers to the plurality of base-view data blocks recorded in the shared stereoscopic/monoscopic area and to the plurality of base-view data blocks recorded in the dedicated stereoscopic area, and

wherein the second file has a plurality of packet numbers for a plurality of top packets of the plurality of base-view data blocks recorded in the shared stereoscopic/monoscopic area and the plurality of base-view data blocks recorded in the dedicated stereoscopic area.

2. The non-transitory recording medium of claim 1 ,

wherein the non-transitory recording medium further includes a third file used in the stereoscopic video playback, and

wherein the third file refers to the plurality of base-view data blocks recorded in the shared stereoscopic/monoscopic area and the plurality of dependent-view data blocks recorded in the shared stereoscopic/monoscopic area as a sequence of data in the stereoscopic video playback.

3. The non-transitory recording medium of claim 1 ,

wherein the shared stereoscopic/monoscopic area is a contiguous area in which the plurality of base-view data blocks and the plurality of dependent-view data blocks are recorded in an interleaved arrangement,

wherein both the dedicated stereoscopic area and the dedicated monoscopic area are contiguous areas subsequent to the shared stereoscopic/monoscopic area,

wherein the dedicated stereoscopic area is accessed immediately before a long jump that occurs in the stereoscopic video playback,

wherein the plurality of base-view data blocks and the plurality of dependent-view data blocks that are respectively subsequent to the plurality of base-view data blocks and the plurality of dependent-view data blocks recorded in the shared stereoscopic/monoscopic area are recorded in the dedicated stereoscopic area in an interleaved arrangement, and

wherein the dedicated monoscopic area is accessed immediately before a long jump that occurs in the monoscopic video playback.

4. A playback device for playing back a non-transitory recording medium having a base-view stream, a dependent-view stream, a first file, and a second file, the playback device comprising:

a reading unit operable to read, from the non-transitory recording medium, the base-view stream, the dependent-view stream, the first file, and the second file,

wherein the base-view stream is used for monoscopic video playback,

wherein the dependent-view stream is used for stereoscopic video playback in combination with the base-view stream,

wherein the first file is used in the monoscopic video playback,

wherein the second file is used in the stereoscopic video playback,

wherein the non-transitory recording medium includes a shared stereoscopic/monoscopic area, a dedicated stereoscopic area, and a dedicated monoscopic area, each of the shared stereoscopic/monoscopic area, the dedicated stereoscopic area, and the dedicated monoscopic area being a physical area of the non-transitory recording medium,

wherein the shared stereoscopic/monoscopic area is accessed both in the stereoscopic video playback and in the monoscopic video playback,

wherein the dedicated stereoscopic area is accessed in the stereoscopic video playback,

wherein the dedicated monoscopic area is exclusively accessed in the monoscopic video playback and is not accessed in the stereoscopic video playback,

wherein a plurality of base-view data blocks recorded in the shared stereoscopic/monoscopic area are formed from the base-view stream,

wherein a plurality of base-view data blocks recorded in the dedicated stereoscopic area are formed from the base-view stream,

wherein a plurality of base-view data blocks recorded in the dedicated monoscopic area are formed from the base-view stream,

wherein the plurality of base-view data blocks recorded in the dedicated monoscopic area are identical to the plurality of base-view data blocks recorded in the dedicated stereoscopic area,

wherein a plurality of dependent-view data blocks recorded in the shared stereoscopic/monoscopic area are formed from the dependent-view stream,

wherein a plurality of dependent-view data blocks recorded in the dedicated stereoscopic area are formed from the dependent-view stream,

wherein the first file refers to the plurality of base-view data blocks recorded in the shared stereoscopic/monoscopic area and to the plurality of base-view data blocks recorded in the dedicated monoscopic area,

wherein the second file refers to the plurality of base-view data blocks recorded in the shared stereoscopic/monoscopic area and to the plurality of base-view data blocks recorded in the dedicated stereoscopic area,

wherein the second file has a plurality of packet numbers for a plurality of top packets of the plurality of base-view data blocks recorded in the shared stereoscopic/monoscopic area and the plurality of base-view data blocks recorded in the dedicated stereoscopic area,

wherein the playback device uses the first file when the playback device reads the plurality of base-view data blocks recorded in the shared stereoscopic/monoscopic area and the plurality of base-view data blocks recorded in the dedicated monoscopic area in the monoscopic video playback, and

wherein the playback device uses the second file when the playback device reads the plurality of base-view data blocks recorded in the shared stereoscopic/monoscopic area and the plurality of base-view data blocks recorded in the dedicated stereoscopic area in the stereoscopic video playback.

5. A playback system, comprising:

a non-transitory recording medium; and

a playback device,

wherein the non-transitory recording medium includes a base-view stream used for monoscopic video playback, a dependent-view stream used for stereoscopic video playback in combination with the base-view stream, a first file used in the monoscopic video playback, and a second file used in the stereoscopic video playback,

wherein the non-transitory recording medium includes a shared stereoscopic/monoscopic area, a dedicated stereoscopic area, and a dedicated monoscopic area, each of the shared stereoscopic/monoscopic area, the dedicated stereoscopic area, and the dedicated monoscopic area being a physical area of the non-transitory recording medium,

wherein the shared stereoscopic/monoscopic area is accessed both in the stereoscopic video playback and in the monoscopic video playback,

wherein the dedicated stereoscopic area is accessed in the stereoscopic video playback,

wherein the dedicated monoscopic area is exclusively accessed in the monoscopic video playback and is not accessed in the stereoscopic video playback,

wherein a plurality of base-view data blocks recorded in the shared stereoscopic/monoscopic area are formed from the base-view stream,

wherein a plurality of base-view data blocks recorded in the dedicated stereoscopic area are formed from the base-view stream,

wherein a plurality of base-view data blocks recorded in the dedicated monoscopic area are formed from the base-view stream,

wherein the plurality of base-view data blocks recorded in the dedicated monoscopic area are identical to the plurality of base-view data blocks recorded in the dedicated stereoscopic area,

wherein a plurality of dependent-view data blocks recorded in the shared stereoscopic/monoscopic area are formed from the dependent-view stream,

wherein a plurality of dependent-view data blocks recorded in the dedicated stereoscopic area are formed from the dependent-view stream,

wherein the first file refers to the plurality of base-view data blocks recorded in the shared stereoscopic/monoscopic area and to the plurality of base-view data blocks recorded in the dedicated monoscopic area,

wherein the second file refers to the plurality of base-view data blocks recorded in the shared stereoscopic/monoscopic area and to the plurality of base-view data blocks recorded in the dedicated stereoscopic area,

wherein the second file has a plurality of packet numbers for a plurality of top packets of the plurality of base-view data blocks recorded in the shared stereoscopic/monoscopic area and the plurality of base-view data blocks recorded in the dedicated stereoscopic area,

wherein the playback device includes a reading unit operable to read, from the non-transitory recording medium, the base-view stream, the dependent-view stream, the first file, and the second file,

wherein the playback device uses the first file when the playback device reads the plurality of base-view data blocks recorded in the shared stereoscopic/monoscopic area and the plurality of base-view data blocks recorded in the dedicated monoscopic area in the monoscopic video playback, and

wherein the playback device uses the second file when the playback device reads the plurality of base-view data blocks recorded in the shared stereoscopic/monoscopic area and the plurality of base-view data blocks recorded in the dedicated stereoscopic area in the stereoscopic video playback.

6. A recording method, comprising:

a generation step of generating a base-view stream, a dependent-view stream, a first file, and a second file; and

a recording step of recording the generated base-view stream, the generated dependent-view stream, the generated first file, and the generated second file onto a non-transitory recording medium,

wherein the base-view stream is used for monoscopic video playback,

wherein the dependent-view stream is used for stereoscopic video playback in combination with the base-view stream,

wherein the first file is used in the monoscopic video playback,

wherein the second file is used in the stereoscopic video playback,

wherein the non-transitory recording medium includes a shared stereoscopic/monoscopic area, a dedicated stereoscopic area, and a dedicated monoscopic area, each of the shared stereoscopic/monoscopic area, the dedicated stereoscopic area, and the dedicated monoscopic area being a physical area of the non-transitory recording medium,

wherein the shared stereoscopic/monoscopic area is accessed both in the stereoscopic video playback and in the monoscopic video playback,

wherein the dedicated stereoscopic area is accessed in the stereoscopic video playback,

wherein the dedicated monoscopic area is exclusively accessed in the monoscopic video playback and is not accessed in the stereoscopic video playback,

wherein a plurality of base-view data blocks recorded in the shared stereoscopic/monoscopic area are formed from the base-view stream,

wherein a plurality of base-view data blocks recorded in the dedicated stereoscopic area are formed from the base-view stream,

wherein a plurality of base-view data blocks recorded in the dedicated monoscopic area are formed from the base-view stream,

wherein the plurality of base-view data blocks recorded in the dedicated monoscopic area are identical to the plurality of base-view data blocks recorded in the dedicated stereoscopic area,

wherein a plurality of dependent-view data blocks recorded in the shared stereoscopic/monoscopic area are formed from the dependent-view stream,

wherein a plurality of dependent-view data blocks recorded in the dedicated stereoscopic area are formed from the dependent-view stream,

wherein the first file refers to the plurality of base-view data blocks recorded in the shared stereoscopic/monoscopic area and to the plurality of base-view data blocks recorded in the dedicated monoscopic area,

wherein the second file refers to the plurality of base-view data blocks recorded in the shared stereoscopic/monoscopic area and to the plurality of base-view data blocks recorded in the dedicated stereoscopic area, and

wherein the second file has a plurality of packet numbers for a plurality of top packets of the plurality of base-view data blocks recorded in the shared stereoscopic/monoscopic area and the plurality of base-view data blocks recorded in the dedicated stereoscopic area.

7. A playback device for playing back the non-transitory recording medium of claim 1 , the playback device comprising:

a reading unit operable to read, from the non-transitory recording medium, the base-view stream, the dependent-view stream, the first file, and the second file.
