Abstract

An elastic netting like product is carried between two outer layers of material, such as nonwoven or non-stretch material, which are bonded together at the open areas of the netting like structure. The resulting laminate allows for the outer layers of the laminate to be directly bonded to each other without the stretch engine material being introduced into the bond.

Claims (36)

1. A method of forming a registered stretch bond laminate, the method comprising:

providing a first material layer;

providing a stretched elastomeric layer, the elastomeric layer comprising a net like structure having strands intersecting at crossing points between said strands, thereby forming a stretch engine having a plurality of void spaces between said intersecting crossing points;

providing a second material layer;

registering bond sites relative to said void spaces between said intersecting crossing points and bonding said first and said second material layers to each other at said bond sites, creating a bond through said void spaces between said intersecting crossing points, thereby creating a bonded laminate.

2. A method according to claim 1 , wherein at least one of said first and second material layers is a non-woven layer.

3. A method according to claim 1 , wherein said bonding is performed ultrasonically.

4. A method according to claim 1 , the method further comprising allowing said bonded laminate to relax following the bonding step.

5. A method according to claim 1 , wherein the strands are provided in a uniform matrix.

6. A method according to claim 1 , wherein the strands are provided in a non- uniform matrix.

7. A method of forming a registered laminate, the method comprising:

providing a first material layer;

providing an elastomeric layer stretched in at least one of a machine direction and a cross-direction, the elastomeric layer comprising a net like structure having strands intersecting at crossing points between said strands, thereby forming a stretch engine having a plurality of void spaces between said intersecting crossing points;

providing a second material layer;

registering bond sites relative to said void spaces between said intersecting crossing points and bonding said first and said second material layers to each other at bond sites, creating a bond through said void spaces between said intersecting crossing points, thereby creating a bonded laminate.

8. A method according to claim 7 , wherein at least one of said first and second material layers is a non-woven layer.

9. A method according to claim 7 , wherein said bonding is performed ultrasonically.

10. A method according to claim 7 , the method further comprising allowing said bonded laminate to relax following the bonding step.

11. A method according to claim 7 , wherein the strands are provided in a uniform matrix.

12. A method according to claim 7 , wherein the strands are provided in a non-uniform matrix.

13. A method of forming a registered laminate, the method comprising:

providing a first material layer;

providing an elastomeric layer, the elastomeric layer comprising a net like structure having strands intersecting at crossing points between said strands, thereby forming a stretch engine having a plurality of void spaces between said intersecting crossing points;

providing a second material layer;

bonding said first and said second material layers to each other at bond sites, creating a bond through said void spaces between said intersecting crossing points; thereby creating a bonded laminate.

14. A method according to claim 13 , wherein at least one of said first and second material layers is a non-woven layer.

15. A method according to claim 13 , wherein said bonding is performed ultrasonically.

16. A method according to claim 13 , wherein the strands are provided in a uniform matrix.

17. A method according to claim 13 , wherein the strands are provided in a non-uniform matrix.

18. A method of forming a registered laminate, the method comprising:

providing a first material layer;

providing a elastomeric layer, the elastomeric layer comprising a net like structure having strands intersecting at crossing points between said strands, having a plurality of void spaces between said intersecting crossing points;

providing a second material layer;

registering bond sites relative to a position of the net like structure, and bonding said first and second material layers, thereby creating a bonded laminate.

19. A method of forming a registered laminate according to claim 18 , wherein said elastomeric layer is provided in a stretched condition.

20. A method of forming a registered laminate according to claim 19 , wherein said elastomeric layer is stretched in at least one of a machine direction and a cross-machine direction.
